BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota’s Emergency Services department will be seeking another $7 million in emergency borrowing to fund law enforcement costs related to ongoing protests of the Dakota Access oil pipeline. Emergency Services spokeswoman Cecily Fong says officials will request the additional funding from the state Emergency Commission on Nov. 30. The group earlier approved $10 million in emergency spending, but state costs have risen to more than $11.8 million.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) About 75 people from around the country are planning to serve Thanksgiving dinner to about 2,000 protesters who are demonstrating against the Dakota Access oil pipeline in North Dakota.
The group is to include actress-activists Jane Fonda and Shailene Woodley. The meal is set for late Thursday afternoon at a school in Fort Yates, which is near a camp where hundreds of protesters have gathered for months.
Fort Yates is on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. The tribe opposes the $3.8 billion pipeline that will skirt its reservation as it carries North Dakota oil to a shipping point in Illinois.
A New York woman who suffered a serious arm injury while protesting the Dakota Access oil pipeline is improving in a Minneapolis hospital.
A spokeswoman for Hennepin County Medical Center says 21-year-old Sophia Wilansky has been upgraded from serious to satisfactory condition.
Wilansky was injured when something exploded during a violent clash between protesters and police late Sunday and early Monday near the main protest camp along the pipeline route in southern North Dakota.
Protesters and Wilansky’s father say she was injured by a concussion grenade thrown by police. Authorities say she was hurt by a small propane tank that protesters had rigged to explode.
North Dakota’s state crime bureau and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating.
North Dakota’s governor and congressional delegation are pressuring President Barack Obama to pave the way for completion of the disputed Dakota Access oil pipeline.
Republican Gov. Jack Dalrymple, U.S. Sen. John Hoeven and U.S. Rep. Kevin Cramer sent a letter Wednesday to Obama imploring him to authorize the Army Corps of Engineers to approve the pipeline’s crossing under the Missouri River in North Dakota.
Democratic U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp says she also pressed the White House this week to intervene.
The crossing is the final large segment of the $3.8 billion pipeline, which will carry North Dakota oil to Illinois. The work is delayed while the Corps consults with the Standing Rock Sioux, who oppose the project.
Obama raised the possibility of rerouting the pipeline earlier this month.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A subsidiary of MDU Resources Group has agreed to sell its interest in the Pronghorn natural gas processing plant.
The Bismarck Tribune reports that WBI Energy Midstream has a 50 percent non-operating share in the plant near Belfield, as well as the associated natural gas and oil-gathering pipelines, with Whiting Oil and Gas Corp.
Tesoro Logistics Rockies has agreed to purchase the plant and associated gathering lines for $200 million. WBI’s share of the sale price will be about $100 million.
The sale is expected to close in the first quarter of 2017, pending Federal Trade Commission approval.
WBI Energy Midstream acquired its interest in the Pronghorn facilities in May 2012 for $66 million.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A free Thanksgiving meal will be served in North Dakota’s capital city for the first time in at least five years.
A team led by Sister Kathleen Atkinson with the Annunciation Monastery is planning for 375 people for Thursday’s meal, which will include a dozen turkeys, 150 pounds of red potatoes and 16 giant cans of corn. There also will be pies, trays of stuffing and fresh gravy.
More than 80 volunteers have signed up for shifts to cook, serve and clean at First Presbyterian Church. AID Inc. hosted a Thanksgiving lunch there for more than a dozen years, but has since moved its meal to Mandan.
Atkinson says she hopes the meal will give those in need a full belly and sense of community.

NEW YORK (AP) — He was a three-time All Star who spent 12 seasons as a major league pitcher. But Ralph Branca’s career was defined by one pitch — a high-and-inside fastball that Bobby Thompson belted out of the park in a 1951 playoff game, giving the New York Giants the National League pennant instead of Branca’s Brooklyn Dodgers. It became known as the “Shot Heard ‘Round the World.” Branca died today at the age of 90 at a suburban New York nursing home.

PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Donald Trump selected two women Wednesday for top-level posts. He’s chosen South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley to be his U.N. ambassador, and charter school advocate Betsy DeVos (dih-VAHS’) to head the Department of Education. Haley, whose parents came from India, is the only minority chosen by Trump so far for a Cabinet-level post. But a source says Trump has offered Ben Carson the job of Housing and Urban Development secretary. Carson hasn’t yet accepted the offer — but he tweeted today that “an announcement is forthcoming.”
UNDATED (AP) — Americans are taking to the roads, air and railways for what is expected to be the busiest Thanksgiving travel period in almost a decade. And while they are looking forward to eating turkey and watching football, many are hoping to abandon another, more recent, American pastime: rehashing the election outcome. One woman heading home to Indiana from Chicago says her mother is forbidding any political conversation — because, even though nobody in the family voted for Donald Trump, her grandmother is “sick of hearing about it.”
WASHINGTON (AP) — If there had been any doubts that the Federal Reserve is leaning toward a rate increase soon, the minutes of the latest Fed meeting should alleviate them. The minutes show that Fed officials believed it would be appropriate to raise a key rate “relatively soon,” with some officials arguing for a hike at the Fed’s next meeting in December in order to preserve the central bank’s credibility. Private economists are forecasting that the Fed will boost its benchmark rate by a quarter-point at its Dec. 13-14 meeting.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Breaking a sweat? Researchers are creating a skin patch that can test those droplets while people exercise and beam results to their smartphones, a possible new way to track health and fitness. The research is a step toward wearable biosensors that could go beyond today’s Fitbit-style activity monitors. The readings could give an early warning that it’s time to replenish electrolytes before the user feels dehydrated.
