Fargo (CSi) The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the pilot of a small plane that crashed on Thursday, December 1 2016 at approximately 4:30 pm, south of Fargo in Cass County as 55 year old Hans Ahlness. The crash location was approximately ½ mile east of I-29 MM 55, along the Wild Rice River.
1st Responders located a single aircraft that had crashed into the trees along the Wild Rice River. The aircraft had broken apart, but the fuselage was engulfed in flames in the tree line.
The preliminary investigation identified the pilot suffered an in-flight emergency shortly after taking off from Hector Field in Fargo and was possibly trying to make an emergency landing. The location of the crash was east of I-29 in a plowed field that abuts the Wild Rice River. The crash area encompasses an area to include the plowed field and the woodlands along the Wild Rice River.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump supports completion of the disputed Dakota Access oil pipeline in the Midwest, a policy that a spokesman says is not related to Trump’s investments in a partnership building the $3.8 billion pipeline.
Spokesman Bryan Lanza says in a memo to supporters Trump’s backing for the pipeline near a North Dakota Indian reservation “has nothing to do with his personal investments” and is based on policy.
Trump’s federal disclosure forms show he owned a small amount of stock in Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners, the pipeline builder, and at least $100,000 in Phillips 66, which owns one-quarter of the pipeline.
Spokeswoman Hope Hicks said it is her understanding that Trump recently sold his Energy Transfer stock but provided no details.
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) — The nation’s largest mall is hosting its first-ever black Santa Claus this this weekend.
The Mall of America in suburban Minneapolis hired Larry Jefferson to play Kris Kringle from Thursday to Sunday as part of its Santa Experience.
Santa Experience co-owner Landon Luther says they “want Santa to be for everyone, period.” With that in mind, he tells the newspaper he launched a nationwide search for a diverse Santa and found Jefferson at a Santa convention in Branson, Missouri, over the summer. He was the only black Santa among the 1,000 impersonators in attendance.
Jefferson says playing the jolly old elf is “no big deal” to him, saying “I’m still Santa, I just happen to be a Santa of color.”
Jefferson will return home to play Santa in the Dallas-area after Sunday.

Valley City (VCSU CSi) – The Valley City State University men’s basketball team has added to its 2017 recruiting class with the addition of Hunter McCalla.
Viking head coach Ryan Montgomery announced McCalla has signed a letter of intent to attend VCSU and play basketball for the Vikings starting this fall.
A native of Becker, Minn., McCalla is currently in his senior season at Becker High School. Montgomery says the 6-foot-4 McCalla is a bigger guard who can shoot the ball well.
“We needed shooting in this class and Hunter helps fill that void,” said Montgomery. “We also love his ability to pass the ball. At 6-foot-4, he can handle, distribute, and shoot the ball making him a great fit for VCSU basketball.”
McCalla averaged 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block per game last season as he helped Becker to a 14-14 overall record. He is a two-time All Conference Honorable Mention in basketball and was named Most Dedicated. He has also excelled in soccer, earning two All Conference awards.
McCalla plays his summer basketball with the Comets Elite DLR team. He is the son of Kory McCalla and Tracy McCalla, and plans to study business while at VCSU.
He joins Collin Trottier (6-foot-7 forward, West Fargo Sheyenne) as VCSU’s announced recruits for the 2017 class.
Valley City State University is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and a conference member of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA). The Vikings are currently 7-4 this season as they enter conference play. Last season, the men’s basketball team posted a 22-11 overall record and advanced to the second round of the NAIA National Tournament for just the second time in school history.

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Donald Trump’s supporters have filed a federal lawsuit trying to stop the presidential recount that’s already underway in Wisconsin — while in Michigan, the state attorney general today sued to stop a recount from happening in his state. Green Party candidate Jill Stein requested both recounts and a third in Pennsylvania. She has suggested that Trump and his backers would try to delay the recounts to make it hard to complete them by the deadline for states to certify their results. If the votes aren’t certified, the state’s tally is decided by Congress, which is controlled by Republicans.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The judge in the case of a former police officer charged with murdering a black motorist has told jurors to continue to deliberate. This, after the jurors Friday indicated that they couldn’t reach a verdict. The judge in Charleston, South Carolina, told them to keep trying. It’s the third day of deliberations in the trial of former patrolman Michael Slager, charged in the shooting death of a black motorist who was fleeing on foot after a traffic stop last year.
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — A moment of silence has been held in San Bernardino, California, to recall the 14 county health employees killed and the 22 others who were wounded in the terror attack one year ago. The observance came just before 11 a.m., local time — the time when husband-and-wife assailants opened fire on a gathering at the Inland Regional Center. It’s part of a day of remembrance on the anniversary of the tragedy that struck the city east of Los Angeles.
AMHERST, Mass. (AP) — The flag is flying again at Hampshire College. The school in Amhest, Massachusetts, drew nationwide criticism when it stopped flying the U.S. flag on campus following the presidential election. It was initially lowered to half-staff, and then it was found burned on Veterans Day. The college decided to take down all campus flags a week later. Hampshire College’s president says the flag has been raised again as a symbol of freedom — “and in hopes for justice and fairness for all.”
