Valley City  (CSi)  Valley City  has  started snow removal  in the northwest part of the city and will work clockwise to the northeast section then to the southeast and wrap up in the southwestern section of the city.

Public Works Director Jeff Differding says crews started to pickup Tuesdays garbage shortly after 7am today and will do Wednesday’s route today and wrap up both days with the Thursday regular pickup.

Jamestown city street crews are continuing with street clearing in the residential areas today.

Jamestown  (CSi)  The 5th Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5k  held on Thanksgiving morning netted about   $5,000 in food and non-food donations during the event.

Community Action Region VI Food Pantry Coordinator Sarah Oberlander says  156 people registered, considered a good turnout but slightly less than last year. The event was sponsored by Bank Forward, Cash Wise, Ingstad Family Media and Wildside Creations.

Nate Rausch took first in the men’s division and Marie Kellam took first for women’s division.

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — Williams County sheriff’s authorities say a 3-year-old boy is in stable condition after apparently accidentally shooting himself in the head.

The sheriff’s office was called to the shooting at a rural Williston home at about 1:30 p.m. Monday. Deputies found the boy conscious and crying inside a home in the subdivision about five miles northwest of Williston.

Capt. Verlan Kvande of the Williams County Sheriff’s Office tells the Williston Herald the shooting appears to be a “tragic accident” but remains under investigation.

Kvande says at least one parent was home at the time.

The boy was first taken to Minot for treatment, and later transferred to a hospital in Fargo.

Authorities don’t know yet what type of gun was involved, or how the child got access to it.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Standing Rock Sioux Chairman Dave Archambault (AR’-sham-boh) is renewing a call for Dakota Access oil pipeline opponents to leave a camp in southern North Dakota.

A blizzard hitting the region has brought snow, wind gusts up to 55 mph and wind chills as low as minus 15 degrees.

Archambault says there’s no reason for people in the camp to put their lives at risk. And he says emergency shelters on the nearby reservation are all full.

Some people at the camp spent the night at shelters that Morton County set up in Flasher and Mandan. Others stayed at the tribe’s casino, about 4 miles from the camp.

Pipeline opponents have vowed to maintain the camp through the winter. They believe the pipeline threatens the tribe’s drinking water, and cultural sites.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a contract for the first phase of a $2.1 billion Red River diversion project around Fargo and Moorhead, Minnesota.

Sens. John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota say the $46 million deal with Burnsville, Minnesota-based Ames Construction will include construction of an inlet southwest of Fargo. It’s a concrete structure with three gates to regulate flows into the diversion channel.

Although it’s not clear when construction on the inlet will begin, the Corps says a ground-breaking ceremony will be scheduled for this spring.

Some upstream residents have asked a federal judge to prohibit work on the project until sponsors obtain permits from Minnesota for construction of a dam that would inundate land south of Fargo-Moorhead during times of serious flooding.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Environmental groups are seeking to defend a new federal rule that would restrict how oil companies burn off excess natural gas extracted from public lands.

Wyoming, Montana and North Dakota are pressing a federal lawsuit in Wyoming seeking to block a rule that President Barack Obama’s administration issued in November.

The states argue that the U.S. Bureau of Land Management lacks authority over air quality issues and claim the rule would reduce state revenues.

Energy companies frequently “flare,” or burn off, large volumes of natural gas at drilling sites because it makes less money than oil.

Fifteen groups including national environmental organizations are asking a federal judge in Wyoming to allow them to intervene to support the BLM rule. The judge hasn’t ruled yet on the request.

MLB-WINTER MEETINGS…

UNDATED (AP) — The American League East champions have landed one of baseball’s top pitchers.

The Red Sox have acquired pitcher Chris Sale from the White Sox for four prospects, including highly-touted third baseman Yoan Moncada. The 27-year-old Sale was 17-10 with a 3.34 ERA for Chicago last season and made the AL All-Star team for the fifth straight year.

Sale joins a rotation that includes current Cy Young winner Rick Porcello, former winner David Price and All-Star knuckleballer Steven Wright.

The Sox also snared the setup man they wanted, acquiring right-hander Tyler Thornburg from the Brewers in a package that included infielder Travis Shaw and two minor leaguers. The 28-year-old Thornburg will become Boston’s eighth-inning guy, setting up closer Craig Kimbrel.

Also at the winter meetings:

— The Rays are close to completing a two-year package with All-Star catcher Wilson Ramos (RAH’-mohs). The 29-year-old Ramos batted .309 with a career-high 22 home runs and 80 RBIs for the Nationals this year before tearing his right ACL on Sept. 25.

— Catcher Jeff Mathis and the Diamondbacks have finalized a $4 million, two-year contract. The 12-year veteran had been the Marlins’ No. 2 backstop since 2013 and hit .238 with two home runs and 15 RBIs in 41 games this year.

— The Chicago Cubs’ first World Series title in 108 years is worth about $369,000 to each player after the team split up over $27.5 million in postseason shares. The AL-champion Indians’ portion of the player pool is about $18.4 million, or 262,000 for each full share. The champion series runners-up get over $123,000 per full share.

— Derek Jeter’s No. 2 is being retired by the Yankees. His is the last of the team’s single digits to be retired. The club says the number will be retired before a Mother’s Day game against Houston, and a plaque in his honor will be unveiled in Monument Park during the ceremony. Jeter’s number is the 21st retired by the team.

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Heisman Trophy winner Rashaan Salaam (rah-SHAHN’ sah-LAHM’) was found dead Monday night in a Boulder, Colorado, park, less than two miles from the stadium where he starred for the Buffaloes.

The Boulder County coroner’s office was still investigating the cause of the death of the 42-year-old Salaam, although police say foul play was not suspected. Salaam’s mother told USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday that police said they suspect he killed himself.

Salaam rushed for 2,055 yards and 24 touchdowns as a junior in 1994, his Heisman-winning season.
