The battle began in December 2013 and first went to the courts in February 2014. The Legislature in 2015 refused to get involved.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Matt Dumba and Jared Spurgeon scored early in the second period, and the Minnesota Wild beat the Ducks 2-1 Sunday night in coach Bruce Boudreau’s triumphant return to Anaheim.

Boudreau was fired by the Ducks after their first-round playoff exit last spring despite leading Anaheim to the past four consecutive Pacific Division titles and Game 7 of the 2015 Western Conference finals. The veteran coach has turned his new team into an early-season Stanley Cup contender with 14 wins in its last 16 games.

Devan Dubnyk made 23 saves for the Wild, who won twice on their three-game California road trip.

Ryan Kesler scored and John Gibson stopped 34 shots for the Ducks, whose three-game winning streak ended. Anaheim played without captain Ryan Getzlaf, who missed his third straight game.

NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE PLAYOFFS

UNDATED (AP) — The Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers have continued their winning streaks and moved into the NFL’s divisional round of the playoffs. The Packers did it with a second-half aerial showdown after the Steelers dominated the first half of their game.

Aaron Rodgers threw for 362 yards and four touchdowns as the Packers moved into the NFC divisional round by thumping the New York Giants, 38-13 at Green Bay.

The Packers will take their seven-game winning streak into Arlington, Texas, to take on the Cowboys next Sunday.

The Steelers deserved to be in a celebratory mood following their 30-12 victory over Miami. But there was some concern in the Steel City after quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (RAWTH’-lihs-bur-gur) showed up at the postgame news conference wearing a walking boot. Roethlisberger didn’t have one of his better playoff games, but it didn’t matter as Le’Veon (LEH’-ve-ahn) Bell rushed for a team playoff-record 167 yards and two touchdowns. Bell’s eight-yard scoring run put the Steelers ahead 30-6 late in the third quarter.

Pittsburgh carries an eight-game winning streak to Kansas City, where they will battle the Chiefs next Sunday.

TOP-25 COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Caleb Swanigan’s 18 points and 13 rebounds carried No. 20 Purdue to a Big Ten win over No. 13 Wisconsin, 66-55.

No. 14 North Carolina was more than ready for a game that was postponed a day because of bad weather.

The Tar Heels scored 20 straight points in the first half of a 107-56 blowout against local rival North Carolina State.

Lonzo Ball scored 21 points Bryce Alford added 17 as fourth-ranked UCLA led wire to wire in an 89-75 win against Stanford.

Eleventh-ranked Virginia was a 79-62 winner over Wake Forest behind London Perrantes’ 24 points.

Ivan Rabb capped his 17-point, eight-rebound performance by hitting two free throws with 5.2 seconds left to send California past No. 25 Southern California, 74-73.

OHIO ST-MINNESOTA…

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Amir Coffey had 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, helping Minnesota stave off another setback at home with a 78-68 victory over Ohio State on Sunday night.

Akeem Springs scored 18 points on 5-for-8 shooting from 3-point range for the Gophers (15-2, 3-1), who have already topped their Big Ten win total of last season and beat the Buckeyes for only the second time in the last 12 meetings.

Jae’Sean Tate had 20 points and nine rebounds for Ohio State (10-6, 0-3), but he also committed five fouls and seven turnovers. The Buckeyes have lost their first three conference games for the first time in coach Thad Matta’s 13 seasons.

With spitfire new football coach P.J. Fleck firing up the crowd at halftime, the Gophers avoided the second-half lapse that cost them last week in a one-point overtime loss here to Michigan State after leading by as many as 14 points.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Senior Peter Jok scored 18 points with 11 rebounds and Iowa rallied from nine down to beat Rutgers 68-62 Sunday and move back to .500 in the Big Ten.

GOLF-SBS TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS…

KAPALUA, Hawaii (AP) — Justin Thomas is the lone reason Hideki Matsuyama (hih-DEH’-kee maht-soo-YAH’-mah) hasn’t won six straight tournaments.

Thomas held off Matsuyama to capture the PGA’s SBS Tournament of Champions at Kapalua. Thomas closed with a 4-under 69 for a 22-under total, three shots better than Matsuyama.

The tournament turned on the next-to-last hole as Thomas carded a birdie while Matsuyama bogeyed to fall three strokes back.

The victory is the 27th of her career, tying Phil Mahre (mehr) for third place among American skiers with most World Cup wins.

In world and national news…

UNDATED (AP) — Winter continues to take a toll on both coasts. The East Coast is still trying to thaw out from a weekend icy mess while another storm is bringing rain and the potential of the worst flooding in more than a decade to parts of the West coast. Four deaths have been blamed on the East Coast storm. North Carolina could see its first below zero temperatures in more than 20 years.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — The first court hearing is today for the man accused in the Florida airport shooting that claimed five lives. Suspect Esteban Santiago is facing federal charges that could potentially result in a death sentence. The FBI agent in charge of the investigation is George Piro, the same man who interrogated Saddam Hussein alone for months after the former Iraqi leader’s capture.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Today could be the wrap-up day before jurors decide the punishment for Dylann Roof, who was convicted in the killing of nine black parishioners in a Charleston, South Carolina, church. Final testimony is expected as prosecutors try to solidify their argument that Roof be given the death penalty. Roof is acting as his own attorney and has said he won’t call any witnesses, so deliberations could begin tomorrow.

VATICAN CITY (AP) — The Vatican’s doctrine chief has rebuffed four conservative cardinals who questioned Pope Francis’ outreach to divorced and civilly remarried Catholics. Cardinal Gerhard Mueller responded to a public request, saying there is no need to correct Pope Francis because “there is no danger to the faith.” Mueller also says it was “damaging” for the cardinals to have made their complaints public.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraqi forces are pushing deeper into the eastern portion of Mosul in their effort to drive out the city’s Islamic State group captors. A senior Iraqi military commander says special forces have reached the Tigris River, the first time Iraqi forces have made it to the riverbank since the military operation began in mid-October.
