Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Salvation Army reports, the recent Christmas funding raising campaign, raised a total of $116,796, about $40,000 shy of its goal.
The $157,000 goal goes to operating expenses.
Major Tim Nauta says the total includes donations through the Red Kettle Campaign, along with mail and online donations, through January 3rd.
He says the short fall of around $40,000 accounts for the fact that the Jamestown Salvation Army is not going to be able to serve the area as it has.
The Salvation Army services may be cut as much as one-fourth to one-third.
Online donations can still be made through http://salvationarmynorth.org/community/ jamestown. A tax-deductible check can also be mailed or delivered to the Salvation Army, 320 1st Ave. N. For more information, contact the office at 252-0290.

Valley City (CSi) Stemming from a December 30, 2016, rollover crash that injured three people, a 21 year old Valley City man is charged with three counts of felony Criminal Vehicular injury and DUI.
21 year old William Weatherford, of Valley City, lost control of his vehicle in the crash on Barnes County Road 38, near Litchville, about 1:40-a.m.
The vehicle entered the ditch rolling several times, ejecting Weatherford and three other occupants.
The occupants received spinal injuries, broken bones and other injuries. A third passenger suffered a lacerated spleen and other injuries in the crash.
Weatherford was treated for injuries at the hospital and released.
He was arrested on January 9, 2017.
He is scheduled to appear in court on January 24th, in Barnes County.
Authorities responding to the crash including the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office, were Litchville First Responders, and Kathryn First Responders.
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Authorities say a North Dakota man was killed in a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 12 in Roosevelt County.
The Billings Gazette reports the 54-year-old Minot, North Dakota man, whose name has not been released, was in an SUV that crashed into an oncoming pickup near Brockton on Tuesday morning. The driver of the SUV was trying to pass a snow plow at the time of the crash.
The passenger from Minot, who was wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene. No other information was released.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Prosecutors have charged a North Dakota man with making threats against the state’s Democratic senator, Heidi Heitkamp.
Fifty-five-year-old Kevin Lee Olson, of Fargo, made his initial appearance in court Tuesday on a charge of having made a threatening communication. He told the judge he doesn’t want an attorney and a detention hearing was scheduled for Thursday.
Authorities allege that Olson sent an email to the senator’s office last month threatening to shoot her in the head. Although court documents didn’t specify which senator had been threatened, Heitkamp’s office confirmed it was she.
Heitkamp reports, her office notified the authorities, who decided it was serious enough to warrant intervention.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The cost of policing the Dakota Access pipeline protests in North Dakota is at least $22 million — more than $5 million more than the state set aside last year.
Protest-related funding decisions will be made by state lawmakers during the 2017 session. Leaders of the House and Senate appropriation committees say more funding will be approved, though the amount and method isn’t known.
Rep. Jeff Delzer says state officials also still hope the federal government will help with funding.
The four-state, $3.8 billion pipeline is to carry North Dakota oil to Illinois. Opponents believe the project threatens drinking water and Native American cultural sites, which Texas-based developer Energy Transfer Partners denies.
Opponents built a protest encampment in southern North Dakota. There have been nearly 600 arrests since August.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota’s Republican-led Senate has rejected a measure to update state law to reflect the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2015 decision that same-sex couples have the right to marry.
The bill failed 15-31 on Tuesday. It would have updated dozens of references, such as “husband and wife,” to gender-neutral terms.
North Dakota law lists “one man, one woman” or “husband and wife” for everything from marriages and divorces to fishing licenses.
The measure got a hearing last week in the Senate Judiciary Committee, which voted 4-2 to recommend against passage.
Committee chairman Sen. Kelly Armstrong, a Republican, says rejecting the measure is only symbolic since same-sex marriage is now legal nationwide.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The chairman of North Dakota’s oil-rich Fort Berthold Reservation has renewed threats to pull out of a revenue sharing agreement with the state.
Three Affiliated Tribes Chairman Mark Fox told the North Dakota House’s Finance and Taxation Committee Tuesday that a measure that would cut tax increases for producers if oil prices rebound above $90 a barrel is a violation of the tax agreement.
The Legislature in 2015 passed a measure that abolished most price-based incentives in exchange for a lower tax rate. The tribes have opposed tax cuts because they say more money is needed to pay for consequences of oil development on the reservation.
House Majority Leader Al Carlson says the state gained about $450 million in the past year by cutting the price incentives.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — The usual spectacle of colonies of ice houses is missing from many lakes in North Dakota this winter.
The Minot Daily News reports that the reason is too much snow, which suffocates access points to lakes and makes travel on lakes virtually impossible.
During the North American Ice Fishing Circuit’s national qualifying tournament at Lake Metigoshe on Sunday, participants weren’t able to use vehicles to move about the lake from one fishing area to the other as they typically do.
Myron Langehaug of Bottineau says the lake had open water when the winter storms began to ascend on the region. The snow on top of the lake provided a barrier of insulation as the body of water froze. As a result, many areas of the lake were somewhat slushy.

WILD-ALL-STARS…
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Coach Bruce Boudreau, goalie Devan Dubnyk and defenseman Ryan Suter will represent the Minnesota Wild in the NHL All-Star Game in Los Angeles.
The league announced the rosters Tuesday for the 3-on-3 tournament, featuring one team from each of the four divisions. Boudreau will coach the 11-player Central Division squad Jan. 29, because the Wild’s .705 point percentage leads the division.
The other Central goalie is Chicago’s Corey Crawford. The other defensemen are Chicago’s Duncan Keith and Nashville’s P.K. Subban.
Dubnyk leads the NHL with a 1.80 goals against average and a .939 save percentage.
Suter has five goals and 17 assists in 39 games and is tied for first in the league with a plus-24 rating. He’s second in the NHL with a time-on-ice average of 27:16 per game.
MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL POLL…
UNDATED (AP) — Baylor is No. 1 in The Associated Press men’s basketball poll for the first time ever, but it could be a short stay.
No. 10 West Virginia has handed Baylor its first loss of the season as Nathan Adrian broke out of a shooting slump with a career-high 22 points in an 89-68 pounding of the Bears. Jevon Carter had 17 points for the Mountaineers, who opened the second half on an 11-3 run and led by as many as 26.
The Bears allowed 15 steals in committing a season-high 29 turnovers, two off the school record. Terry Maston, Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. and Al Freeman each scored 10 as Baylor lost to West Virginia for the third straight time.
The outcome leaves No. 5 Gonzaga as the only unbeaten team in Division I men’s hoops.
Meanwhile, No. 2 Kansas is in position to take over the top spot in the poll after Frank Mason scored 19 of his 28 points in the second half of the Jayhawks’ 81-70 win at Oklahoma. Josh Jackson scored 16 points and Devonte’ Graham added 13 for the Jayhawks, who trailed by nine at halftime before posting their 15th straight win.
Kansas could become the No. 1 team if it beats Oklahoma State on Saturday.
NBA-ROSE-FINE…
NEW YORK (AP) — Derrick Rose has been fined by the Knicks after he missed Monday’s loss to New Orleans for what he says were family reasons.
Rose is expected to be in uniform for Wednesday’s game in Philadelphia.
The 2011 NBA MVP is averaging 17.3 points this season but had been on the bench for the fourth quarters in the previous two games before Monday.
NASCAR-EDWARDS RETIRES
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — It appears that Carl Edwards has made his final left turn in NASCAR competition.
Two people with knowledge of the situation have told The Associated Press that Edwards is retiring from the sport less than two months after nearly winning his first Cup championship.
Joe Gibbs Racing has scheduled a pair of news conferences Wednesday during which Edwards is expected to announce he is giving up the sport immediately and that reigning Xfinity Series champion Daniel Suarez will replace Edwards in the No. 19 Toyota.
The 37-year-old Edwards was leading all championship contenders in the 2016 season finale at Homestead-Miami with 10 laps remaining until a caution set up a restart that bunched the field. Edwards tried to block Joey Logano’s attempt to take the lead, and it caused a crash that ended Edwards’ title bid.
Edwards won three races in 2016 as JGR dominated the regular season and put two drivers in the final four. He spent 13 years in the Cup Series and has 28 career victories in 445 starts.
FIFA-WORLD CUP FORMAT…
ZURICH (AP) — FIFA (FEE’-fuh) will expand the World Cup to 48 teams, adding 16 extra nations to the 2026 tournament, which is likely to be held in North America.
President Gianni Infantino’s favored plan has been unanimously approved by the FIFA Council. The new format will have 16 three-team groups with the top two advancing to a round of 32.
With 80 matches instead of 64, FIFA forecasts the equivalent of $1 billion extra income at current rates from broadcasting and sponsor deals, plus ticket sales.
FIFA projects an increased profit of $640 million despite some extra operating costs and prize money for teams.
MOSCOW (AP) — Maria Sharapova will return from her 15-month doping ban at a tournament in Germany in April.
The five-time Grand Slam titlist has been given a wild-card entry into the tournament, which will be her first official competition since she tested positive for meldonium at last year’s Australian Open.
The 29-year old Sharapova will be eligible to return on April 26, the third day of main-draw play. She’s won the Stuttgart tournament three times.
In world and national news…
NEW YORK (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump goes before reporters today to face questions about what role he believes Russia played in the election year hacking of Democrats. Also likely to come up: an unsubstantiated report that Russia has compromising personal and financial information about him. Both Russia and Trump dispute the report.
WASHINGTON (AP) —The confirmation hearing for Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general continues today, a day after Jeff Sessions strongly denied any hints of a racist past. A group of black lawmakers will speak out against his nomination. Sessions also will have advocates in the hearing room, including former Attorney General Michael Mukasey.
ATLANTA (AP) — A new study suggests the so-called “Ferguson effect” among police is a reality. The Pew Research Center says three-quarters of officers surveyed say they are hesitant to use force, even when appropriate, and are less willing to stop and question suspicious people.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Charleston, South Carolina church shooter Dylann Roof is about to face a judge who will confirm a jury’s decision to sentence him to death for killing nine black worshippers. Roof will also be hearing from victims’ relatives as well as survivors of his 2015 rampage before he’s sent to federal death row.
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Lawyers for a Texas death row inmate are looking to the U.S. Supreme Court to keep him from becoming the first prisoner executed in the nation this year. Christopher Wilkins is set for lethal injection this evening for a double slaying in Fort Worth in 2005. The fatal shootings stemmed from a $20 drug deal gone bad.
