“Vice President-elect Pence and I had a solid meeting about the need for bipartisanship as the new administration soon starts,” said Heitkamp. “He’s from a rural state that is similar to North Dakota and filled with farming communities. We talked about the importance of passing a strong Farm Bill in 2018 – which is my top priority in the U.S. Senate – to support farmers and ranchers, and making sure there’s an orderly transition in federal law enforcement as local law enforcement and protestors are still on the ground in North Dakota. We also discussed the need to work together to advance North Dakota’s and the country’s interests. I look forward to working with him and the new administration and maintaining an open dialogue.”
