It’s not know if any other damages occurred.

He says 27 City fire fighters responded to the all-call at the fire station, and 10 were dispatched to the scene, while the remainder were on standby.

The fire department was on the scene about one hour.

Jamestown (CSi)  A county-wide test of the CodeRED mass notification system was completed on Friday, February 17, 2017, by Stutsman County Communications. The test began at 1:03 pm and included landlines, cell phones, TDD, text messaging, email, and mobile app notifications.

Results of the testing related to text messages and emails indicated that

100% of the text and email messages were delivered without issue.

Results related to the phone testing indicated that only 70% of the phone

numbers registered into the system received the test CodeRED message.  The

number of people notified could be dramatically increased if individuals

would take the time to register their cell phone numbers with CodeRED.  Land line telephone numbers are already included in the notification database.

We will be working with telephone service providers to review their

information for accuracy.

To receive notifications via cell phone, email or text, individuals must

sign up for the service by going to the Stutsman County website

(http://www.co.stutsman.nd.us/), scroll to the bottom of the page and click

on the CodeRED icon.  Those without Internet access can call Stutsman County

Emergency Management at 701-252-9093, Monday through Friday, (8AM-5PM) to sign up over the phone.

CodeRED is used to alert Stutsman County residents of emergency events and

notifications of immediate concern to the public.  CodeRED service is free

of charge to residents and businesses.  Questions regarding CodeRED services

should be directed to Stutsman County Emergency Management.

Jamestown  (CSi)   – Alzheimer’s and dementia can be intimidating diseases to struggle with, and for many people, it’s often caught too late.

JRMC speech therapist Rebecca Gussiaas, is hoping to change that with a new service she is offering: Free memory screenings for people concerned about Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Early detection for Alzheimer’s and dementia is key.

Although dementia and Alzheimer’s share similar symptoms, dementia is not a specific disease, but a broad term describing a wide range of mental process disorders, such as memory loss, personality changes, and impaired reasoning. Alzheimer’s is a specific type of progressive dementia with no known cure. According to Alz.org, Alzheimer’s is the number one cause of dementia in adults, with 1 in 9 adults over 65 suffering from it.

Screenings are available by appointment from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Early detection means patients and families can create strategies and routine before significant memory loss occurs. Developing strategies for memory loss helps individuals maintain independence as long as possible, Gussiaas said. Such strategies include setting alarms, creating calendars and posting reminders.

“It’s a misconception that nothing can be done for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia, we can provide a lot of memory strategies to help them maintain independence longer,” Gussiaas said.

For the memory screening, Gussiaas identifies weaknesses in short-term memory and long-term memory in the patient, once the screening process is complete, Gussiaas then has an accurate picture of what recommendations should be made.

“These early memory strategies can offer hope to patients and their families, and that’s what I want to do: provide hope,” Gussiaas said.

Children and nursing home staff play an important role in early detection says Gussiaas. Changes to watch for are: increased forgetfulness, memory loss, or speech changes.

In addition to free memory screenings, Gussiaas also offers pediatric screenings for parents concerned about speech impediments, (Stuttering or lisps) language delay, or overall language skills.

JRMC Rehabilitation Manager Tracy Anderson says that offering free pediatric screenings can offer peace of mind to parents who are concerned about their child.

“For those parents who are scared that their kid’s language skills are not developing, we can do a free screening and help guide those parents. We can give them recommendations,” said Anderson.

Regardless of what Gussiaas is treating, she stays focused on one thing- patient success.

“I am here to help the patient succeed. Their success is my success,” said Gussiaas.

Patients or parents interested in a free screening can contact JRMC Rehab at (701) 952-4800.

The city was awarded a $74 million National Disaster Resilience Grant a year ago. Barry’s plan would hire a manager to oversee the six-year program using part of the $3.7 million included for administration.

BOSTON (AP) — Native Americans are hoping President Donald Trump doesn’t forget them as he promises to put “America first.”

Tribes across the country have been reaching out to the Republican administration since it took office last month, saying they’re ready to help it achieve its campaign promises.

Among them are five large tribes in Oklahoma as well as a tribe in Massachusetts seeking reservation lands for a $1 billion resort casino.

The National Congress of American Indians says the administration needs to include tribes in its broader plans for tax reform and energy development.

But tribes elsewhere have already steeled for battle. A rally is planned for March 10 in Washington D.C. following Trump’s order expediting the Dakota Access Pipeline in North Dakota.

MENS COLLEGE BASKETBALL…

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Jordan Murphy had 16 points and 15 rebounds and Eric Curry scored all 12 of his points in the second half to lift Minnesota to its fifth straight victory, 83-78 in overtime over Michigan Sunday night.

Reggie Lynch added 11 points and eight rebounds while battling foul trouble for most of the night for the Golden Gophers (20-7, 8-6 Big Ten), who overcame a furious rally from Michigan to inch closer to an NCAA tournament bid. The Gophers were just 28 of 41 from the line, but made 15 of their last 16 to hold off Michigan.

Derrick Walton Junior scored 10 of his 16 points in the final five minutes of regulation and D.J. Wilson added 16 points, including the tying 3-pointer with 1.8 seconds to play in regulation, for the Wolverines (17-10, 7-7). But Michigan missed nine free throws and Walton missed a decent look from 3 in the closing seconds of overtime to allow the Gophers to escape.

TOP-25 COLLEGE BASKETBALL

UNDATED (AP) — Eleventh-ranked Wisconsin still owns a share of the Big Ten lead after staging a second-half rally Sunday afternoon.

Nigel Hayes scored 14 of his 21 points while the Badgers were turning a six-point halftime deficit into a 71-60 win against No. 23 Maryland. Ethan Happ had 20 points for Wisconsin, which trailed 33-27 at the break before improving to 11-3 in the conference. Bronson Koenig scored all nine of his points in the second half to help the Badgers overcome Melo (MEH’-loh) Trimble’s game-high 27 points for the Terrapins.

The Terps are one game behind Wisconsin and Purdue with four games remaining in the conference schedule.

Marcus Foster scored a career-high 35 points and No. 20 Creighton used a 19-6 run to whip Georgetown, 87-70. The Bluejays shot 53 percent while avenging a 20-point road loss to the Hoyas on Jan 25. Isaiah Zierden added 13 points in helping Creighton get to 22-5.

The Blue Demons actually led 27-22 until the Bulldogs scored 21 straight points to take control. Butler improved to 10-5 in the Big East and dealt DePaul its 10th straight loss.

NBA…

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Anthony Davis scored an All-Star game record 52 points in his home arena, and the Western Conference squad defeated the East 192-182 Sunday night and won the All-Star game’s MVP Award.

Davis broke the record of 42 points set by Wilt Chamberlain in 1962.

Russell Westbrook was gunning for his third straight All-Star MVP honors. He scored 41 points, including seven 3-pointers, but West coach Steve Kerr subbed Westbrook out of the game for the final minutes while leaving Davis in, and the Pelicans’ star scored eight more points. Westbrook’s highlights included an alley-oop dunk set up by former teammate Kevin Durant

Milwaukee’s emerging 22-year-old star, Giannis Antetokounmpo led the East squad with 30 points. LeBron James highlighted a 23-point night with emphatic dunks and shot from nearly half court.

PELICANS-KINGS TRADE

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A person familiar with the situation says the Sacramento Kings have agreed to trade DeMarcus Cousins and Omri Casspi to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Tyreke Evans, 2016 first-round draft pick Buddy Hield, Langston Galloway and first- and second-round draft picks this summer.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Sunday night because the trade is not official and has not been announced by either team.

The deal pairs Cousins, a frontcourt All-Star from nearby Mobile, Alabama, with Anthony Davis, who on Sunday night was the 2017 All-Star MVP after scoring 52 points, breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s 1962 record of 42 points.

ALL-STAR

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — David Robinson and Grant Hill went home from All-Star weekend with trophies.

Also honored Sunday were the five founding members of the NBRPA — Dave Bing, Archie Clark, Dave Cowens, the late Dave DeBusschere and Oscar Robertson. The NBRPA is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

NASCAR-DAYTONA 500

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — It’s impossible to tell the history of NASCAR without mentioning Elliott and Earnhardt.

As the series shifts into a new era, those distinguished names are out front again and will give the start of the Daytona 500 a throwback feel.

Chase Elliott and Dale Earnhardt Junior — teammates and sons of Hall of Fame drivers — will start 1-2 and should give a sagging series a sorely needed boost this week headed into its marquee event.

Elliott nipped Earnhardt on the final qualifying lap Sunday to win his second straight pole for the Daytona 500. Elliott turned a lap at 192.872 mph to just edge Earnhardt’s speed of 192.864 and become the first repeat pole winner in 27 years.

“I don’t really care who it is. I’m not going to feel bad about beating somebody,” Elliott said. “Dale’s a good guy. I’m happy to share the front row with him. Happier to beat him.”

Earnhardt, long NASCAR’s most popular driver, had the speed to beat in his triumphant return after missing the second half of last season with a concussion. He missed the final 18 races with nausea, vision and balance issues after at least the fifth concussion of his career following a June wreck. He was as sharp as ever in the Number 88 Chevrolet headed into his first race since last July.

GOLF-GENESIS OPEN

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dustin Johnson has earned the world’s No. 1 ranking in men’s golf by cruising to victory in the rain-delayed Genesis Open at Riviera Country Club.

Johnson took control with birdies on his last three holes of the third round. The birdie binge capped a 7-under 64 that followed a pair of 66s.

GOLF-CHAMPIONS TOUR

NAPLES, Fla. (AP) — Fred Couples closed with a bogey-free 5-under 67 to capture the Chubb Classic by three strokes over Miguel Angel Jimenez (AHN’-hehl hee-MEHN’-ehz). Couples was 16 under in winning his 12th PGA Tour Champions title and first since 2014.

Dodgers send Nuno to Birds

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Dodgers have dealt lefty Vidal Nuno to the Orioles for minor league hurler Ryan Moseley. The trade gives the Dodgers room on their 40-man roster to announce the signing of veteran outfielder Franklin Gutierrez.

He’s making an unannounced visit to Iraq as government forces engage in day two of the operation to retake the western portion of Mosul, the country’s second largest city. Travis Kalanick tweeted “anyone who behaves this way or thinks this is OK will be fired.”
