Ida Walters, age 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown with her family present. Ida was born Ida Linda Miner on November 20, 1923, near Ypsilanti, N.D., the fourth of five children of Gilbert Miner and Mary Miner. She married Harry Levi Walters on June 4, 1944, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jamestown, North Dakota. They made their home in Bloom, four miles east of Jamestown; where Harry worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad Company as a section foreman. Ida was a devoted stay at home mom for many years. Once the children were all in school, she took a job as a cook at the Northwest Y Truck Stop in Jamestown, where she worked for a few years and made the “best caramel rolls.” She later worked at the Central Dakota Nursing Home in Jamestown until she retired after 20 years of employment as a nurse’s aid. After her retirement, she donated many hours at St. John’s Lutheran Church, quilting and working with her church circle at funerals and other church activities. Additionally, she loved to spend time with her grandchildren. Ida is survived by her sister Florence Janz of Santee, California; her brother, Ernest Miner, of Jamestown; her three children: Richard (Deanna) Walters and James Walters, both of Jamestown, and Phyllis (William) Sutherland, of Carrington, N.D. ; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband who died in 1975, two of her sisters, Aldina Youle and Bertha Miner, as well as her parents. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
