Twenty-six-year-old David White Jr. is charged with attempted murder and reckless endangerment. He is being held in the Cass County Jail.

White’s court-appointed attorney, Monty Mertz, had not seen details of the case and had no comment.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota Senate committee is recommending passage of a bill allowing those who qualify permission to carry a concealed firearm without a permit.

The Senate Judiciary Committee considered the bill Monday. The House has already passed the proposal which allows people 21 and older to forgo background checks and classes that are now required.

Supporters say the bill promotes constitutional rights and allows protection from criminals. Critics worry it could lead to more shootings as people with less training would be carrying weapons.

If approved by the Republican-led Legislature, North Dakota would join about a dozen other state that allow concealed carry without a permit.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The company building the Dakota Access pipeline says the project remains on track to start moving oil this week despite recent “coordinated physical attacks” along the line.

The brief court filing late Monday from Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners didn’t detail the attacks, but said they “pose threats to life, physical safety and the environment.”

The filing cited those threats for redacting most of the 2½-page report. A spokeswoman and an attorney for the company didn’t immediately respond to emailed questions from The Associated Press.

Two American Indian tribes have battled the $3.8 billion pipeline in court for months, arguing it’s a threat to water. The company has said the pipeline will be safe.

When complete, the pipeline will move oil from North Dakota to a shipping point in Illinois.

The contractors reported the defendant to U.S. Army Criminal Investigations Command, which set up a sting operation. Evidence at trial showed Guidry offered one of the contractors $4,000 for help stealing spools of copper worth about $54,000.

Guidry was apprehended after leaving the Air Force compound with the copper wire.

DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) — Max Kepler singled in three at-bats Monday, two days after a scary-looking hand injury as the Minnesota Twins beat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-2.

The right fielder was cut on his right little finger Saturday when Boston Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval inadvertently stepped on him while Kepler was diving back to the bag.

Kepler grounded out to first and lined a center-field single off Francisco Liriano. He also struck out against J.P. Howell.

Kepler hit .235 with 17 homers and 63 RBIs over 113 games last year during his rookie season.

MINNESOTA-SUSPENSIONS…

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Three Minnesota football players were cleared of sexual harassment allegations while another’s punishment was upheld in the final round of appeals at the school.

Attorney Ryan Pacyga says defensive back Antoine Winfield Jr., running back Kobe McCrary and quarterback Mark Williams will likely return to spring practice on Tuesday after they were pulled from the field by the university while the appeals process played out. Defensive back KiAnte Hardin’s expulsion after a woman accused him of sexual assault was upheld.

Provost Karen Hanson conducted the final round of appeals stemming from an alleged incident on Sept. 2 that included allegations against 10 Golden Gophers players. Hanson upheld the decision to remove one-year suspensions for Winfield and McCrary. She also reversed a decision by a previous panel on Williams, lifting a one-year suspension for him.

WARRIORS-TIMBERWOLVES-CHINA…

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves will play two preseason games in China in October.

The league said Monday the games will be in Shenzhen on Oct. 5 and Shanghai on Oct. 8 as part of the NBA’s Global Games China series.

The Warriors are an excellent draw and should help the league in its effort to further grow the game in China, where basketball already enjoys great popularity.

The Timberwolves feature young, marketable stars in Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine, a group that has made summer trips to China.

The team also has the NBA’s first Chinese minority owner. Shanghai sports marketing executive Lizhang Jiang joined Wolves owner Glen Taylor’s ownership group last summer.

Jersey….

BOSTON (AP) — Tom Brady’s missing Super Bowl jersey has been found in Mexico six weeks after it vanished from the Patriots’ locker room — but the mystery isn’t over.

The NFL said the jersey was found in “possession of a credentialed member of the international media,” and authorities were investigating Monday whether a former Mexican tabloid newspaper executive played a role in the theft.

It wasn’t the only piece of memorabilia recovered: Authorities found a Brady jersey that had gone missing after the Patriots’ 2015 Super Bowl win over the Seattle Seahawks. And NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy says that a helmet belonging to a Denver Broncos player was also discovered.

The stolen jersey — and the investigation that stretched from Boston to the border — captivated Patriots fans and social media for several days after the Patriots’ 34-28 overtime win over the Atlanta Falcons.

NEW YORK (AP) — A research arm of Google’s parent firm is taking a stab at better securing elections and news organizations. Jigsaw says it’s offering tools such organizations can use to protect themselves from hacking. Jigsaw says free and fair elections depend on access to information.
