NOME, N.D. — (WDAY) The Barnes County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fire that destroyed a church in Nome, on Wednesday afternoon, March 22, 2017.

WDAY reports that details were not immediately available, but the sheriff’s office said the North Dakota State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to help investigate the fire.

It was not clear from the information released by the Sheriff’s Office which church building in Nome was burning Wednesday afternoon, but a photo a bystander provided The Forum showed it is the former Zion Lutheran Church.

White supremacist Craig Cobb was listed on a recent deed as an owner of the now dilapidated structure, though Nome residents told The Forum earlier this week — for a front-page story published Wednesday about Cobb’s pending arrival in town — that it didn’t appear as if Cobb had moved in yet.

Cobb told WDAY  that the fire was “100 percent arson” and is offering a $2,000 reward for any information related to the incident.

Cobb has previously tried to establish white supremacist enclaves in two other North Dakota towns.
