Bismarck  (CSi)  The North Dakota Department of Transportation is advising drivers to be aware of overland flooding affecting roadways over the next several days.

With warmer temperatures expected across North Dakota in the coming days, the DOT is encouraging drivers to check road conditions before traveling due to rapidly changing conditions. Fluctuating water levels make it hard to predict where water will flow over a road. If drivers come upon a barricade in the road, they should seek another route.

Jamestown  (CSi)  Jamestown Police is warning residents of a convicted sex offender lchanging his Jamestown address.

Damion Orton is a 22 year old white male, five feet nine inches tall weighing 173 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair.

He is now residing at 1610 Business Loop East #1 (Starlight Motel). Jamestown, ND

Orton has no vehicle.

He has been assigned a high risk assessment  by the North Dkaot risk level committee of the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office.

He was convicted of Gross Sexual Imposition involving a  14 year old girl, who was a runaway, and on drugs and intoxicated.

Conviction: December 2014 in Burleigh County District Court.

Disposition: 10 years…all but 11 month suspended, five years supervised probation.

Jamestown Police is warning Jamestown residents of a convicted sex offender who has changed her address in  Jamestown.

The report says Felita Bravebull Bredeson now resides at 513  5th Street SE, Jamestown, ND

She presently has no vehicle.

She is a 24 year old female American Indian, five feet five inches tall weighing 125 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.

She has been assigned a high risk assessment by the North Dakota risk level committee, of the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office.

Offensive  Corruption/Solicitation of a Minor, when she was 20 years old involving a sexual relationship with a 14 year old female.

Conviction date: October 2012 in Barnes County, ND

Disposition:  366 days, all but 90 days suspended, credit for time served, one year supervised probation.

Neither individual is wanted by police at this time, and has served the sentence imposed by the court.

This notification is meant for public safety and not to increase fear in the community, nor should this information be used to threaten, assault, or intimidate the offender.

Any attempts to harass, intimidate or threaten these offenders, their families, landlords, or employers will be turned over for prosecution.

Jamestown (CSi)  The 41^st Shrine Circus comes to the Jamestown Civic Center, serving Jamestown and Valley City on Tuesday April 4, 2017.  Doors open at 4-p.m., with the only performance at 5:30-p.m.

Craig Mehlhaff says, Advance tickets at Hugo’s, Cashwise, M&H and the Civic Center box office are $11 for adults, $7 for children.

At the door tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children.  El Zagal Mystics members also have tickets.

He added that the Shrine Children’s Hospitasl are 22, and treat at no charge those with orthopedic issues, plus four hospitals that treat burns, with the regional hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota.

There is a regional orthopedic screening location at the Bone and Joint Center in Bismarck.

Jamestown  (CSi)  Friends of the James River Valley Library System is establishing a Spring 2017 Membership Drive.

The goals include:

Increasing awareness of the importance of the library to the community.

Advocate for the renovation and expansion of the library.

Raise funds for the renovation and expansion of the library.

Promote the digital, electronic, and traditional diversity of services the library offers.

Assist in children’s and adult programming.

Update from Sen. Heitkamp’s Office…

Washington (CSi) – U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp, a member of the Senate Committee on Small Business & Entrepreneurship, Wednesday announced two federal grants totaling $144,000 in federal funding to the Tri-County Regional Development Council in Williston and the South Central Dakota Regional Council in Jamestown to support economic development planning in North Dakota.

The federal funds are made available through the Economic Development Administration (EDA), a bureau of the U.S. Department of Commerce. This EDA funding, which will help communities establish economic development strategies, would be eliminated under President Trump’s budget which he announced two weeks ago. These economic planning strategies aid North Dakota economic development councils across North Dakota in bringing together both public and private resources that will help small businesses, create jobs, and long-term growth.

 

Heitkamp says, “These federal funds reinforce why it’s so important to continue strong investments in rural America. When we partner those federal funds with investments from the private sector, it enables North Dakota businesses to grow and thrive, supporting jobs, families, and safe neighborhoods. But these funds wouldn’t be available if the president’s budget is put to action – and our towns would directly feel the impacts. It makes zero sense to pull the rug out from these communities and small businesses when we know the potential to grow jobs is right here at home.”

These federal funds will be distributed as follows:

 

• Tri-County Regional Development Council, Williston: $70,000 in federal funding that serves the counties of Divide, McKenzie, and Williams.

 

• South Central Dakota Regional Council, Jamestown: $70,000 in federal funding that serves the counties of Barnes, Dickey, Foster, Griggs, LaMoure, Logan, McIntosh, Stutsman, and Wells.

 

Recently, Senator Heitkamp was recognized with the Spirit of Enterprise Award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for her work in the U.S. Senate to support small businesses through commonsense regulatory reform, making sure small businesses have a seat at the table when rules are made, and pushing for investments to support startups in rural areas and small cities to help them get off the ground. The Chamber also gave Heitkamp a 100 percent rating for her voting record in the U.S. Senate in 2016 supporting North Dakota small businesses.

 

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota’s coal industry is applauding an executive order by President Donald Trump that rolls back former President Barack Obama’s plan to cut climate-changing emissions, which was bitterly opposed by coal companies and many voters in coal country.

The order won’t put an end to Obama’s plan, but allows U.S. Environmental Protection Agency administrator Scott Pruitt to begin the process of rewriting agency rules.

Lignite Energy Council President Jason Bohrer tells The Bismarck Tribune that the president’s order, focusing on energy independence “will help preserve, protect and enhance the lignite coal industry.”

He says Trump’s initiative is good news for the nation, and especially for North Dakota’s coal industry.

The order also addresses several energy industry regulations, such as limits on methane emissions in oil and gas extraction.

 

 

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — The former commander of the 5th Bomb Wing at Minot Air Force Base has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate to the rank of brigadier general.

The appointment of Col. Jason Armagost to the new rank was announced earlier this month by Defense Secretary James Mattis and confirmed Wednesday by the Senate.

Armagost currently serves at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska as deputy director of global operations for U.S. Strategic Command — one of nine unified commands in the Department of Defense.

Armagost oversaw the B-52 bomber force at Minot Air Force Base from 2014 to 2016.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The University of North Dakota is eliminating three sports to help meet budget cuts ordered by school President Mark Kennedy.

UND athletic director Brian Faison (FAY’-zahn) announced Wednesday that his department is cutting women’s hockey and men’s and women’s swimming and diving. Faison called it a sad day he had hoped to avoid.  The programs will end effective at the end of the 2016-17 academic year.

The continuance of the men’s golf program is contingent upon its successful fundraising efforts.

Faison noted  increasing costs including UND changing conferences, as the challenge continues in finding new revenue sources.

Kennedy ordered that $1.3 million be cut out of athletics as part of ongoing budget cuts due in large part to the state’s bleak financial picture.

The UND women’s hockey team had a recruit on an official visit from Boston with her family. Their  plane Landed at 12:30 p.m. before the announcement was made.

The women’s hockey program, which began in 2002, reached the NCAA quarterfinals two straight years when twin sisters and U.S. Olympians Monique and Jocelyne Lamoureux played for the team. The men’s and women’s swimming teams moved up to Division I in 2008.

The women’s hockey team’s season ended in March at the Western Collegiate Hockey Association tournament.

The move leaves UND athletics with 18 programs.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — University of North Dakota freshman hockey forward Tyson Jost is leaving for the professional ranks. Jost has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche and will join the club for the rest of the season. Colorado chose Jost in the first round of the 2016 draft, 10th overall. The native of Alberta, Canada, had 16 goals and 19 assists this past season.

 

Jamestown  (CSi)  Wade Wintermeyer  of Jamestown was one of four North Dakota Special Olympics athletes to be selected to represent Team USA at the games from March 18-24 Austria.

He competed in the snowshoeing event, he says he hd the fastest time in the age category of 30 and older.

Wintermeyer won the gold medal in the 200 meter finals, and  the silver medal in the 400 meters. Teammates Nickolas Hilton, of Lansing, Mich., won the gold and James Wireman, of Washington, Ill, won the bronze.

Wintermeyer also a member of the U.S. four-member 400 meter relay race team that came in third. The Latvia team won the gold and Canada won the silver.

Co-workers at Hugo’s in Jamestown gave  Wade a party including  a cake and a congratulations poster from Newman Signs.

A community reception was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Wednesday  displaying his medals and uniforms.

TWINS…

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have reassigned right-handers Nick Tepesch and Alex Wimmers to minor league camp, finalizing their bullpen for the start of the regular season.

The moves mean right-handers Justin Haley and Michael Tonkin have spots on the opening-day roster. Left-handers Glen Perkins and Ryan O’Rourke are expected to start on the disabled list.

Haley was a Rule 5 draft pick who finished 2016 as a starter for Boston’s Triple-A team. Tonkin has a 4.31 ERA in 125 games for the Twins over the last four years.

Tepesch, who started 39 games for Texas over the 2013-14 seasons, was a non-roster invitee. Wimmers, the team’s first-round draft pick in 2010, had a strong spring after posting a 4.15 ERA over 16 appearances last year in his major league debut.

MSU in talks on 10-year contract with coach Mike Hastings

MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota State is working on a new 10-year contract for coach Mike Hastings.

The university announced Wednesday that it was in the process of renegotiating a deal with Hastings that was believed to be the longest-term appointment among all current NCAA Division I men’s hockey coaches.

MSU athletic director Kevin Buisman said he fielded “some inquiry” from another school with interest in hiring Hastings, which triggered the contract talks. Hastings said his “heart is in Mankato” and that his “intention is to make good” on the university’s investment in him.

The Mavericks are 122-62-16 in five years with the Mavericks, who have twice been the WCHA regular season champion, twice won the league playoffs and three times appeared in the NCAA Tournament.
