Jamestown (CSi) The James River Humane Society has helped with giving dogs to organizations that have in turn aided in the Wounded Warriors Program and has assisted flood victims.
On Friday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Shelter Board Member, Jay Nitchke said, “Scout,” a Black Lab was determined to be a dog that met the criteria of being capable of assistance and was sent to a South Dakota K-9 Center, where he was trained, in search and rescue, and was recently deployed to assist in Texas flooding.
Meanwhile, “Braxton,” a three year old Pit Bull Terrier, was rescued from a North Carolina “kill shelter,” and after a year at the James River Humane Society, was trained in Minnesota, for placement in the Wounded Warriors program.
Also on our show Jay added that May is Spay and Neuter of your pets month, and encouraged pet owners to spay or neuter their dogs, or cats, to control the pet population.
She reminded viewers that a fundraiser is a memorial to pets or people, with a plaque that will be placed on a dog or cat kennel.
She said for a donation of $100 or more, for one year the name of the pet or person will be placed on the kennel. After the year, another donation of at least $100 will keep the plaque in place on the kennel.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — A federal agency has filed a lawsuit accusing a Minot construction company of sexual harassment.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says Jennifer Gerard was subjected to a hostile work environment and intolerable work conditions while she was employed as a truck driver at Keller Paving and Landscaping, Inc. in 2013.
The complaint says Gerard was the victim of sexual harassment on the part of several male co-workers. The behavior allegedly continued after Gerard complained to company owners and the site manager. She says one of the owners suggested she quit.
The suit says Gerard felt she had no choice but to resign.
A phone message left Saturday at the Minot business was not returned.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota craft distillery has received approval from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its Glen Fargo American Malt Whiskey, after a challenge from Scottish distillers.
It took more than two years for Proof Artisan Distillers in downtown Fargo to trademark its single malt whiskey that’s named for both the state’s largest city and the valley where it sits.
The Scotch Whisky Association worried that Glen Fargo would be confusing to consumers as a Scottish product. Many distilleries in Scotland take their names from the valley — or glen — where they resided.
Proof’s attorneys argued that glen is a glacially formed valley and Fargo sits in the heart of Lake Agassiz, one of the largest glacial lakes in North America.
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (AP) — Teams from two colleges in Minnesota and one university in North Dakota are building drones in preparation for an international robotics competition.
The Minnesota Public Radio reports that teams from Carleton and St. Olaf colleges and North Dakota State University are to compete at the International Aerial Robotics event in Atlanta this July.
The contest challenges competitors to build a drone that can avoid obstacles and make decisions on its own. The drone can’t rely on external guidance systems like GPS or remote control, so the projects will use cameras, ultrasonic sensors and radar to know where it is.
During the competition, the drones will have to maneuver inside a large auditorium where it’ll need to sense robots moving randomly across the floor.

The results are available on the agency’s website, www.gf.nd.gov . Applicants can find individual results by clicking “my account” under the “buy and apply” link.
Successful applicants will receive a letter next week, stating the license will be mailed after the license fee is paid.
The bighorn sheep lottery is scheduled in September, after summer population surveys are completed and total licenses are determined. Once the lottery is held, successful applicants will be contacted to select a hunting unit.
Elk, moose and bighorn sheep lottery licenses are issued as once-in-a-lifetime licenses in North Dakota. Hunters who have received a license in the past aren’t eligible to apply for that species again.

In world and national news…
UNDATED (AP) — An Associated Press investigation finds that student-on-student sex assault in high-school and even middle-school sports often is mischaracterized as hazing and bullying. The acts meet federal law enforcement definitions of rape and sexual assault, but calling it hazing or bullying can minimize the severity. An AP review of 300 cases from law enforcement records, lawsuits, interviews and news accounts shows boys made up the majority of aggressors and victims in teammate attacks.
ESTILL, S.C. (AP) — An Associated Press analysis says some 17,000 sexual assaults were reported by students in U.S. elementary and secondary schools over a four-year-period. But that doesn’t include the many that have gone unreported. In Estill, South Carolina, the grandmother of two girls who claim they were sexually assaulted by as many as 30 classmates in a school bathroom, has filed a lawsuit.
PARIS (AP) — The German government says the pro-European course struck by French President-elect Emmanuel Macron during his election campaign bodes well for future Franco-German cooperation. Government spokesman Steffen Seibert said Monday that “Macron carries the hopes of many millions of people in France, that’s very clear.” He told reporters in Berlin that Macron also “carries the hopes of many people in Germany and many people across Europe as a whole.”
WASHINGTON (AP) — An Obama administration official who warned the Trump White House about contacts between a key adviser and Russia is set to speak publicly for the first time about concerns she raised. Former acting Attorney General Sally Yates is ready to testify before a Senate subcommittee investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election. TOKYO (AP) — After arresting two American university instructors and laying out what it claims was an elaborate, CIA-backed plot to assassinate Kim Jong Un, North Korea is now claiming to be the victim of state-sponsored terrorism _ from the White House. The claim comes as the US is considering putting the North back on its list of terror sponsors. But it also is being doled out with an unusually big dollop of retaliation threats, raising a familiar uncertainty. Cyberattack, anyone? Or a quiet fade-away?
