Jamestown  (CSi)  In a news release, the Jamestown Arts Center gives a background on what is now the Hansen Arts Park in Downtown Jamestown, and the community concern and support and donations that led to the park becoming a reality.

It says:  “Years in the making, The Arts Center is celebrating the completion of the Hansen Arts Park in downtown Jamestown with a FREE two-day festival. The Downtown ArtSpark Festival promises to ignite downtown Jamestown and celebrate the completion of the Hansen Arts Park.

In 2005 the Orlady building that once occupied the half lot at the corner of 1st Avenue and 2nd Street burned to the ground. The lot sat for years as a sad reminder of what was. In 2008 The Arts Center purchased the lot in hopes of reviving this central downtown space by creating an arts park, a creative green space for the community to gather, enjoy, and be inspired. It was a monumental task. But, thanks to so many generous donations, grantors, volunteers, and a lot of hard work the vision is now realized. The project’s completion will be celebrated August 25 – 26, 2017.

The Downtown ArtSpark title and mission of igniting downtown is a nod to the past. An acknowledgement of what was and fire that that took it; but, more importantly a spark of hope and joy for what is rebuilt and our community’s bright future.

The Arts Center along with a large group of community members worked intentionally to organize an event that promises to showcase all that the new park can offer. Whether that be simply enjoying lunch on one of the mosaic benches, viewing a temporary art installation, taking a moment to be inspired by the Prairie Grass Ballet sculpture, watching a performance from the Boulder Pavilion, or being wowed by large scale light projections…  The Downtown ArtSpark festival is creative fun for all ages. It’s a perfect way to wrap up the summer and the hard work that has gone into the creation of the Hansen Arts Park.

North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says his agency wants to quantify the number of potential damage reports and impacted acres through the survey . He says the information that’s gathered won’t be used for any enforcement actions.

If carried out, it would be the North’s most provocative missile launch to date. Japan and South Korea quickly vowed a strong reaction if the North goes through with the plan. The North says the plan could be sent to leader Kim Jong Un for approval within a week or so.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Stalwart U.S. ally Kuwait says it will continue to grant visas to North Korean laborers whose wages allegedly aid Pyongyang in evading international sanctions. ROME, N.Y. The Associated Press has obtained a confidential report on a severely disabled man on a breathing tube at a New York state group home. His throat was twice infected with maggots last summer.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A nonpartisan study finds that the Trump administration’s own actions are triggering double-digit premium increases for next year on individual health insurance policies purchased by many consumers. Premiums are going up 10 percent or more in 15 of 21 major metropolitan areas studied.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — An emerging debate about whether elected officials violate people’s free speech rights by blocking them on social media is spreading across the U.S. as groups sue or warn politicians to stop the practice. It followed recent lawsuits against the governors of Maryland and Kentucky and President Donald Trump.
