Helen Schweinefus, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Jamestown on August 21st at the age of 98.

Helena Mercedes Ulven was born on January 29, 1919 in Hamlin County, SD, the daughter of Andrew and Laura Ulven.  She attended a one room school house near Grover, SD and after the eighth grade she stayed at home to help with farm work. She was united in marriage to Arthur C. Schweinefus on October 25, 1938 in Watertown, SD. They raised their family at their farm, northwest of Edgeley, ND where they diligently grew crops of wheat and barley, cared for animals and enjoyed a wonderful life full of loving memories and cultivating God’s blessings of faith, family and friends.  In 1980, they retired from farming and moved to Jamestown, ND.  She was married to her best friend for 57 years before Art passed away in 1995. Helen was an excellent cook and loved to constantly feed her family and friends. At the farm, she was known to make at least one pie every day.  She was a cancer survivor and maintained an abundant garden full of vegetables and flowers, was an avid bowler and master card player, and enjoyed playing bingo, sewing, traveling and spending cherished time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.”

Helen is survived by her daughter, Sharon Kaul, Pierre, SD; son, Gerald, Sausalito, CA; grandchildren, Jason (Stephanie) Kaul, Tonya (Graham) Riley, Taryn (Zach) Wilson, Jon Kaul; great-grandchildren, Kaelyn, Ashlyn and Riley Kaul, Annika, Addison and Alexandra Riley, Cole and Taylor Wilson; sisters, Idella Dewall, Watertown, SD, Verneda Wolf, Aberdeen, SD;  and brother, Sidney Ulven, Granite Falls, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND, with Rev. Erik Weber officiating.

Prayer Service: 7 p.m., Friday, August 25, 2017 at Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2017 at Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Burial: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Mount Hope Cemetery, Edgeley.
