BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A farmer is charged with sexually assaulting two teen boys in Morton County.

Fifty-year-old James Hopfauf, of rural Flasher, was arrested Monday and charged with felony sexual assault. Hopfauf says the teens, now 18 and 19, were simply helping him with his bad back.

Charges say the sexual contact started with back rubs. Both teens say they were about 15 when the assaults began.

Hopfauf’s bond was set Tuesday at $5,000 cash.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota’s taxable sales and purchases have increased for the first time in two years.

State tax data shows that from April to June nearly $4.7 billion in taxable sales and purchases were made. That’s a nearly 7 percent increase from the same period last year.

Tax Commissioner Ryan Rauschenberger says a “new normal” is emerging that’s comparable to pre-oil boom levels. He says the state is seeing rig counts go up with a moderate increase in oil production.

Eight of the 15 major sectors recorded gains when compared to the second quarter a year ago, including the mining and oil extraction sector, which saw an increase of nearly 69 percent.

Oil field counties Williams and McKenzie also saw gains with percentage increases of nearly 32 and 28.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota regulators have approved an agreement settling allegations that the Texas-based builder of the Dakota Access pipeline violated state rules during construction.

North Dakota’s Public Service Commission last year accused Energy Transfer Partners of improperly reporting the discovery of American Indian artifacts. Regulators also were looking into whether crews removed too many trees.

The deal the commission approved Wednesday calls for ETP to help develop and promote an industry manual for handling artifacts discoveries, and to plant more trees along the pipeline route than it had proposed. The state isn’t requiring a $15,000 fine or payment, as it had proposed earlier.

The agreement was worked out by attorneys for the company and the commission.

The $3.8 billion pipeline began moving North Dakota oil to Illinois on June 1.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Sen. John Hoeven says he is “supportive” of new legislation that would undo the Obama health law.

President Donald Trump and Republican Senate leaders are trying to rally 50 Republican votes to pass the bill that would replace much of former President Barack Obama’s law with block grants to states so they can devise their own health care coverage rules.

The North Dakota Republican says in a statement that the bill, among other things, “appears” to give the state “more funding to help low-income individuals access health insurance.”

North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum was among 15 governors who signed a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday supporting the block grant program to states as the “best option on the table for repealing and replacing Obamacare.”

NEW YORK (AP) — Aaron Judge hit his AL-leading 45th home run and topped 100 RBIs, Didi Gregorius surpassed Derek Jeter for the most home runs by a Yankees shortstop and New York beat the Minnesota Twins 11-3 Wednesday for a three-game sweep.

The game was briefly halted in the fifth inning when a foul ball down the third-base line off the bat of Todd Frazier struck a young girl, who was carried out of the stands and taken to a hospital. The protective netting at Yankee Stadium ends at the home plate side of each dugout, and the team said in July it is “seriously exploring” extending the netting for 2018.

The Yankees, who have won 10 of 12, began the day three games behind AL East-leading Boston. They opened a seven-game advantage over the Twins for the top AL wild card with 10 games remaining.

Minnesota started 1½ games ahead of the Los Angeles Angels for the league’s last playoff berth. The Twins have lost five of six and were outscored 18-6 in the three-game series.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Expect a Senate vote on a GOP health care bill next week. That word comes from a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. McConnell has been short of votes for the legislation and it remains unclear if he has the votes in hand to pass the measure.

NEW YORK (AP) — President Donald Trump says he’s reached a decision on whether to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal _ but he won’t say what it is. The president made the comments during a meeting in New York with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
