Jamestown (CSi) Since its inception, the Master of Arts in Leadership program at University of Jamestown has seen constant growth in a traditional classroom setting. The university has now added an online option to this two year graduate program.
Vice President of Enrollment Management Michael Heitkamp, says, “As technology advances, opportunities for professional growth are becoming more accessible to working professionals. Because of the success of the program and the high demand for leadership development in business today, it was a natural step for us to transition the success of this classroom environment online.”
Currently there are over 200 students in graduate programs at University of Jamestown. The MA in Leadership enrollment is at an all time high, up 17% compared to last year.
Heitkamp adds, “The growth in the program is driven by demand. In the current business climate, companies want more than a business degree, they need their employees to possess leadership skills.”
The MA in Leadership online option for the 2018-2019 academic year is currently available. Visit uj.edu for more information.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — One of the two defendants accused of conspiring to kill a Fargo woman and take her infant has pleaded not guilty to charges.
An attorney for William Hoehn (HAYN) entered the pleas Tuesday on behalf of his client to conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping and giving false information to officers. Hoehn’s girlfriend, Brooke Crews, is also charged in the case and is due in court Thursday.
The two were neighbors of 22-year-old Savanna Greywind. Her newborn was found in their apartment days after she disappeared. Her body was found in the Red River a few days later. The baby is in the custody of her father, Greywind’s boyfriend.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota legislators are expected to make a decision Thursday whether to challenge the new governor over his veto powers.
The Republican-led Legislature adjourned on April 27, and GOP Gov. Doug Burgum used his line-item veto during the following week to change parts of several spending bills.
Legislators contend he violated his veto powers by deleting words or phrases that would have changed the intent.
The bipartisan Legislative Management Committee will meet behind closed doors Thursday with an attorney to talk about possible litigation.
If the committee does decide to sue, it would be the first state Supreme Court challenge over vetoes in nearly four decades.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A Washburn man convicted of committing sex crimes against a boy in 2011 has been sentenced to life in prison.
Thirty-eight-year-old Russell Everett Jr. was charged a year ago and convicted by a jury in June. He was recently sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
Burleigh County Assistant State’s Attorney Marina Spahr had asked that Everett be sentenced to serve 20 years in prison. Judge Bruce Haskell went well beyond the recommendation, summarizing Everett’s history of substance abuse and his criminal record before handing down the life sentence.
Everett told the judge he maintains his innocence.
WASHBURN, N.D. (AP) — The city of Washburn will spend $5,550 to install security cameras in its City Hall following allegations of employee harassment by the City Commission president.
President Larry Thomas calls the allegations bogus and says the security cameras are a waste of money.
A citizens group has been collecting petition signatures to recall Thomas, and has until Nov. 6 to file for a special election.
City Auditor Joan Zimmerman recently sent an email to commissioners saying employees were “nervous” to be in the building with Thomas.
Thomas says he’s never threatened anyone.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — State health officials say fewer pregnant women are smoking in North Dakota.
The Department of Health’s birth certificate records show the state had a pregnancy smoking rate of 11.6 percent in 2016. That’s down from 13.8 percent in the year prior. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the national smoking rate for pregnant women is 8.4 percent.
Health officials also say more than a quarter of the North Dakota women who say they smoked in the first trimester of pregnancy quit by the third trimester.
State child health nurse consultant Amy Burke says women who smoke while pregnant can increase their risk of health complications with the pregnancy, premature birth, low-birth weight and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
BOWBELLS, N.D. (AP) — Burke County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered a recreational area near Flaxton.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Two property owners in Bismarck whose backyards are slipping into a creek have been given more time to accept or decline help from the park board in stabilizing the slope.
The Bismarck Tribune reports that the Bismarck Park Board approved a 20-day extension last week for the homeowners whose properties are slipping into Hay Creek.
Negotiations are ongoing between the board and property owners Jim Hopfauf and David Wolf. The board is asking the homeowners to pay more than $81,000 for the stabilization project.
The residents and city officials still disagree on who or what is responsible for the problem, which is also affecting a public walking trail now deemed unsafe.
The board won’t continue planning or engineering a solution for the slope until Hopfauf and Wolf make their decisions.

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Minnesota Twins became the first team to make the playoffs after losing at least 100 games the previous season, clinching an AL wild-card berth on Wednesday night when the Los Angeles Angles lost 6-4 in 10 innings at Chicago.
The Twins couldn’t secure their first spot in the postseason by themselves, losing 4-2 to the Indians, but that hardly mattered for a team that has overcome adversity and defied expectations while joining October’s elite.
They won only 59 games a year ago, and it seemed as if the young Twins would be lucky to be competitive when the season began. But they got hot in August and haven’t looked back in becoming the 13th team — and first since the 2009 Seattle Mariners — to go from 100-plus losses to a winning record the following season.
Nearly two hours after losing, the Twins began a celebration that seemed unimaginable two months ago.
Minnesota will play at either Yankee Stadium or Fenway Park in the wild-card game Tuesday night. Boston holds a three-game lead over New York in the AL East race.
Minnesota Twins slugger Miguel Sano took his first swings in more than a month, raising hope that he might able to play in the postseason. Sano, who is not traveling with the club, has been on the disabled list since Aug. 20 with a left shin injury. Sano has missed 37 games, and it’s still not clear if he would be able to play in the wild-card game on Tuesday.
Reigning AL Cy Young winner Rick Porcello struggled in his final playoff tuneup, and David Price relieved him to solidify his role on the postseason roster as the Boston Red Sox beat Toronto 10-7 on Wednesday night to lower their magic number to two.

Addison Russell hit a 3-run homer and John Lackey pitched six strong innings as the Chicago Cubs clinched their second consecutive National League Central title with a 5-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cubs reached the postseason for the third straight year for the first time since 1908.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The University of Miami president says a member of the coaching staff is being investigated as part of the federal probe of basketball recruiting at seven universities. Meanwhile, Louisville has placed coach Rick Pitino and athletic director Tom Jurich on administrative leave.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Playboy magazine says its founder Hugh Hefner helped slip sex out of the confines of plain brown wrappers and into mainstream conversation. Hefner died Wednesday night of natural causes at age 91. Hefner published the first issue of Playboy in 1953, a time when states could legally ban contraceptives, when the word “pregnant” was not allowed on “I Love Lucy.” By the 1970s, the magazine had more than 7 million readers.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s economics adviser is asserting that the administration’s proposed tax cut is “purely aimed at middle class families.” Gary Cohn says in a nationally broadcast interview that a hypothetical family of four should have “a substantial tax decrease.” He said the administration is confident that “Americans are getting a great deal.”
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — The aftermath of Hurricane Maria has resulted in a near-total shutdown of Puerto Rico’s economy that could last for weeks. Many people are running seriously low on cash and they worry that it will become even harder to survive. There are long lines at the few banks that are open with reduced hours, ATMs that are operational are scattered and there’s been a near total loss of telecommunications amid the islandwide power outage.
MEXICO CITY (AP) — There are incredible stories of survival in Mexico’s earthquake. Sixty-seven-year-old Conrad Vazquez Martinez was working on the roof of a four-story building in Mexico City when the quake hit Sept. 19. The building collapsed, but he grabbed a nearby branch. The branch broke and he fell to the ground, breaking a hip and leg. But Vazquez Martinez says the grill of a metal balcony fell on top of him, protecting him from falling rubble.
