Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Fire Department was called to a fire Friday about 11:17-a.m., reported in the backyard of a residence at 452 second Street West.
City Fire Chief Jim Reuther says furniture was being burned in the backyard.
No injuries reported with three city fire units, and 22 fire fighters on the scene about 35 minutes.
City Fire Chief Jim Reuther reminds residents of the city Ordinance prohibiting outdoor burning in city limits with the exception of approved fire pits, which may burn only wood. The city does not allow open burning even in fire pits of other materials such as garbage or other materials.
He adds that it cost the City of Jamestown $1,000 every time the city fire department is called out, and in the case of illegal burning, it costs taxpayers unnecessarily.
He points out that before outdoor burning, residents should be sure to check with the city fire department, if the action is lawful.
He says the city’s website, jamestownnd.org has the Ordinance outlined.

The firm AGB Search will direct the search process to find a successor to Pres. Gary Hagen, who earlier this year announced plans to retire after more than four decades at the university. AGB Search has conducted presidential searches in the past to select leadership for other colleges and universities within the North Dakota University System.
The search process will begin with a listening session from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6 in the MaSU Campus Center Luckasen Room. MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — Trial likely will be delayed for an American Indian activist accused of inciting a riot during protests in North Dakota against the Dakota Access pipeline.
Attorneys for Chase Iron Eyes said Friday they want to gather more evidence for their effort to present a “necessity” defense — arguing a crime was justified because it prevented a greater harm.
Part of Iron Eyes’ argument is he was trying to prevent a “civil rights conspiracy” to portray pipeline opponents as terrorists. His defense team wants more information on the peacekeeping efforts of law enforcement and pipeline private security.
Iron Eye’s Feb. 8 trial is likely to be delayed until next summer and likely lengthened to several days. Judge David Nelson called Iron Eyes “one of the premier cases” of the pipeline protest.
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Thirty-six attorneys general have signed onto a legal brief in support of South Dakota’s bid to collect sales taxes from out-of-state internet retailers.
South Dakota is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to review whether retailers can be required to collect sales taxes in states where they lack a physical presence. The case could have national implications for e-commerce.
State Attorney General Marty Jackley said Thursday that Colorado filed a friend-of-the-court brief supporting South Dakota’s petition to the high court. The state is seeking to overturn legal rulings issued mostly before the online shopping boom.
The brief from 35 states — including neighboring Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and Wyoming — and the District of Columbia says the jurisdictions all rely on consumption taxes to fund essential government operations.
MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — Students in the central part of North Dakota have raised $1,400 to help their peers and others affected by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
The Bismarck Tribune reports that students in foreign language clubs at Mandan High School held a bake sale and charged $1 for the cause. They presented a check to the disaster program manager for the Red Cross of Western North Dakota, Rob Stotz, on Wednesday.
Stotz says the money will go directly toward aid in Puerto Rico.
The hurricane ravaged homes and left 3.4 million people on the island without electricity. About 30 percent of electricity has been restored, and efforts are ongoing.
