Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown voters in 2018 will be electing at least one new City Council member.
Ramone Gumke tells CSiNewsNow.com that when he was first elected in 2010 it was his plan to only serve two terms if he was re-elected, as he feels that serving more than two terms an elected representative, can become complacent and possibly lose their drive.
Gumke says he plans to run for seat on the Stutsman County Commission in 2018, and bring his talents and knowledge he’s gain in public service to the county.
Also in 2018 Jamestown Mayor Katie Andersen’s term is up for election.
Jamestown (CSi-United Way) – The United Way of Stutsman County welcomed Lana Meissner, 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21 CCLC) MOST site coordinator for Jamestown to present at its monthly meeting in October.
The North Dakota South East Education Cooperative (SEEC) operates the MOST (Meaningful Out of School Time) in Jamestown. MOST is a United Way Agency and has three participating schools in Jamestown. Student registrations in Jamestown are at the following participating schools: Lincoln Elementary School:70 students, Roosevelt Elementary School: 55, and Washington Elementary School has 35. The program is open for children from kindergarten through 5th grade.
This program supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during out-of-school time for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and/or low-performing schools. It helps students meet state and local education standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers other educational services to the families of participating children.
Lana Meissner noted the program is structured to ensure there is a nice balance of educational activities as well as recreational. United Way funds are used for snacks, activity items and staff needed to run the program. Lana was proud to announce that they utilize local university students in the educational programs which is very beneficial for the university and the MOST program. United Way of Stutsman County thanks Lana and the MOST program for presenting at the monthly meeting and for their work in this important program for our community. More information about the MOST program and the SEEC can be found online at https://www.ndseec.com/programs-and-services/student-services/21cclc-afterschool-programs.html.

Jamestown (CSi) A 38-year-old Shakopee, Minn., woman, formerly of Warwick, N.D., is facing a charge of being an accomplice to murder, a Class AA felony.
Crystal Herman is in custody in the Stutsman County Correctional Center in Jamestown.
The Grand Forks Herald story says, that according to court documents filed in Southeast District Court, Herman is charged with assisting her husband, Billy Herman, to kidnap 36 year old Amanda Engst, on or about Oct. 13, 2015.
Crystal and Billy Herman were charged in a string of armed robberies in North Dakota and Minnesota in 2015. At the time of their apprehension, they were in possession of a car owned by Engst, who was listed as a missing person at the time.
Engst’s body was recovered from the Sheyenne River in Eddy County in northeast North Dakota in February 2016. Her death was ruled a homicide in March.
The newspaper adds, that the criminal complaint accuses Crystal Herman of opening a car door allowing her husband to strangle Engst, clearing the trunk of the vehicle to allow the transportation of Engst and holding a flashlight while Billy Herman beat Engst with a shovel.
Crystal Herman is scheduled to make an initial appearance before Judge James Hovey in Southeast District Court in New Rockford at 2 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2017.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin would join a majority of other states in allowing the farming of industrial hemp under a bill sent to Gov. Scott Walker.
The Wisconsin Assembly passed the bill unanimously Thursday. It cleared the Senate unanimously Tuesday and now goes to Walker.
His spokesman Tom Evenson said Walker would review the bill but did not commit to signing it.
The proposal would establish state licenses for farmers who want to grow industrial hemp. People with drug convictions wouldn’t be eligible for the licenses. The plants couldn’t contain more than 0.3 percent THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.
At least 30 states have passed legislation allowing hemp farms. Supporters of the Wisconsin bill say hemp has a wide range of uses and farmers should have the option of growing another profitable crop.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Public Utilities Commission says it will not reschedule public hearings in St. Cloud on Enbridge Energy’s proposal to replace its aging Line 3 crude oil pipeline across northern Minnesota.
The two hearings were to be held Oct. 26, but were canceled because of logistical and safety issues at River’s Edge Convention Center.
In a letter Thursday, PUC Chair Nancy Lange said the commission concluded it could not reschedule the St. Cloud hearings because of where the case is in the review process. The public can still submit comments by Nov. 22.
Tribal and environmental groups say the project threatens pristine waters where wild rice grows.
Enbridge and its supporters say Line 3 is a needed piece of infrastructure, and that replacing it will make it safer while creating jobs.

Deer Season Starts…
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Thousands of hunters clad in blaze orange are taking to the North Dakota fields in search of white-tailed deer and mule deer.
The gun season opens at noon today and runs through Nov. 26. It’s the first time in several years that the season will extend over the Thanksgiving holiday. That’s due to the cycling of the calendar and a state law that requires the season to start the Friday before Veterans Day.
State Game and Fish Wildlife Chief Jeb Williams says for many hunters, later is better. There’s a better chance of snow for tracking, more active deer and a four-day weekend for many to close out the season.
The state made 54,500 licenses available this year — 11 percent more than last year.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Russell Wilson threw two touchdown passes to Jimmy Graham and the Seattle Seahawks added to their history of success in Arizona with a 22-16 victory over the Cardinals on Thursday night.
The Seahawks (6-3) limited Adrian Peterson to 29 yards in 21 carries in a game marred by a host of injuries and penalties, most of them against Seattle. But the Seahawks improved to 4-0-1 in Arizona in Bruce Arians’ five seasons as coach of the Cardinals (4-5).
The only time the Seahawks haven’t beaten Arians’ team in Arizona was in last season’s 6-6 tie.
Seattle’s Kam Chancellor forced a fumble by Peterson on Arizona’s first offensive play and later tackled him in the end zone for a safety.
At least seven players left the game with injuries, including Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman, who limped off the field in the third quarter with a heel injury. He had missed practice all week with an Achilles tendon problem.
Vikings…
LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Everson Griffen is looking to become the second player in NFL history with sacks in his team’s first nine games of a season when the Vikings visit the Redskins. Griffen and Minnesota’s dominant defensive line pose a big challenge for Washington’s offensive line that has been hit hard by injuries.
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Finally, Teddy Bridgewater has become truly part of the team again. He’ll stand on the sideline this weekend when the Minnesota Vikings play at Washington. As the backup quarterback to Case Keenum, there’s no guarantee he’ll play. His mere presence will be a major milestone, though. He says he’s not worried about when he’ll become a starter again. For now, he’s simply appreciative of the chance to be on the active roster.
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Kai Forbath has missed one field goal in 15 games with the Minnesota Vikings since joining the team midway through last season. Several other kickers around the NFL this year have also successfully stepped in off the street to fill in for injured incumbents. Placekickers these days are as strong as ever. They have a success rate of 69 percent from 50-plus yards that’s never been better.

Milwaukee Bucks coach Jason Kidd is being fined $15,000 by the NBA for public criticism of the officiating in a loss at Cleveland. Kidd made the comments after the 124-119 loss Tuesday night.
— A person familiar with the situation says the NBA will hold the 2020 All-Star game in Chicago. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity. Commissioner Adam Silver, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and team officials are scheduled to make the announcement in Chicago on Friday afternoon.
T25 COLLEGE FOOTBALL-WISCONSIN-CEPHUS OUT
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Star receiver Quintez Cephus will miss the rest of the season for No. 6 Wisconsin because of an injured right leg. Coach Paul Chryst said after practice Thursday that Cephus had surgery this week.
He leads the Badgers in receiving yards and touchdown catches. The sophomore was hurt during the 45-17 win last week at Indiana. Cephus finishes the year with 30 catches for 501 yards and six scores.
MLB…
— Don Mattingly will be back as Marlins manager next season. The decision by the team’s top executive had been expected, with Mattingly entering the third season of a four-year contract. But the recent sale of the franchise to a group including Derek Jeter had left Mattingly’s status in question.
— Former major league skipper Chip Hale will be the bench coach for new Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez, while Derek Lilliquist will be the team’s pitching coach. Also joining the team are first base coach Tim Bogar and assistant hitting coach Joe Dillon. The Nationals had previously announced Kevin Long will be the hitting coach. Third base coach Bobby Henley was retained.
— The Cubs have hired Jim Hickey as their pitching coach and moved Brandon Hyde to bench coach. Hickey spent 11 years as Tampa Bay’s pitching coach. He replacies Chris Bosio. Hyde takes over for Dave Martinez, who left to become the Washington Nationals’ manager.
— A celebration of Roy Halladay’s life will take place next Tuesday at Spectrum Field in Clearwater, Florida, the spring training home of the Philadelphia Phillies. The two-time Cy Young Award winner died this week at age 40 when the private plane he was piloting crashed into the Gulf of Mexico. Halladay pitched for Toronto from 1998-2008 and for Philadelphia from 2009-13, going 203-105. He threw a perfect game in 2010.
PGA-OHL CLASSIC
PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico (AP) — Patton Kizzire carried some momentum from last week in Las Vegas by running off six straight birdies and opening with a 9-under 62 that gave him a two-shot lead Thursday in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.
Kizzire closed with a 64 in Las Vegas to tie for fourth, his best finish in more than a year on the PGA Tour. Playing in the first group, Kizzire finished the front nine with two straight birdies, and then made four straight birdies on the back nine at the El Camaleon Golf Club at Mayakoba. A bogey on the 18th gave him a 62.
Vaughn Taylor played bogey-free for a 64.
Rickie Fowler, playing for the first time since the Presidents Cup, was at 65 along with PGA Tour rookie Brandon Harkins.

DANANG, Vietnam (AP) — U.S. first lady Melania Trump took in China’s famed Great Wall at Mutianyu, two hours north of Beijing city center. She rode a cable car to a watchtower, signed a guestbook and strolled along a stretch of the wall for about half an hour with a small group of aides and security officers.
DANANG, Vietnam (AP) — Asia’s two major regional meetings are unfolding in coming days, filling the news cycles with imagery of groups of political luminaries shaking hands, posing, dining, meeting. But is that where the majority of real progress happens? Most times, quite possibly not.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans aren’t supposed to worry about Alabama. But in the span of a tumultuous afternoon, a low-profile special election became a Republican nightmare that threatens a once-safe Senate seat. And it offers a new window into ugly divisions that continue to plague the GOP in the age of President Donald Trump. Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore is denying allegations of decades-old sexual misconduct with minors.
NEW YORK (AP) — Comedian Louis C.K. is accused of sexual misconduct toward several women. The New York Times reports that fellow comedians Dana Min Goodman, Abby Schachner, Julia Wolov and Rebecca Corry allege the Emmy-winning star of FX’s “Louie” either pleasured himself in front of them, asked to do it or did so over the phone. A fifth unidentified woman also details her allegations against C.K. to the paper.
BEIRUT (AP) — A media outlet linked to the Syrian military says the Islamic State group’s leader may be holed up in an IS pocket in the eastern town of Boukamal, which government forces and their allies recaptured this week. The Syrian Central Military Media says that, as Syrian troops and their allies conducted search operations in Boukamal, they “got the information” that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi might be “in one of the pockets” in the town. Boukamal, IS’ last major stronghold in Syria, was taken on Thursday.
