BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A Chicago man charged in connection with a series of heroin overdoses in Williston last year has been sentenced to six years in federal prison.

Court documents show that 23-year-old Sylvester McCurry pleaded guilty to a drug conspiracy charge in a deal with prosecutors. He was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Bismarck.

McCurry was among six people indicted in the case. Authorities say heroin supplied by the ring was responsible for seven overdoses, including one that was fatal, over a weeklong stretch in January 2016.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Drought-stricken North Dakota ranchers looking for state help with paying hay-hauling costs are running out of time to apply.

Monday is the deadline for the hay transportation aid program approved by the state Emergency Commission in late August.

The group made $1.5 million available to reimburse eligible ranchers for personal and commercial hay-hauling expenses incurred between June 1 and Nov. 6.

The program is in response to the worst drought in decades over the summer. Alfalfa hay production in North Dakota is down 30 percent from last year, and production of all other hay is down 43 percent.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The lone hospital in Grand Forks is planning a new, $250 million facility.

KNOX radio reports that Altru’s project also is to include expanded clinic services.

Altru Health System CEO David Molmen says the needs of patients and communities in the region are changing, and Altru needs to innovate to keep up.

The project is currently in the design process.

EDGELEY, N.D. (AP) — A crash in LaMoure County involving a semitrailer hauling corn and a sport utility vehicle killed one man and injured another.

The Highway Patrol says the crash happened at a rural intersection northeast of Edgeley on Thursday afternoon. Both vehicles rolled in the ditch.

The 79-year-old Monango man driving the SUV was killed. The 41-year-old Stirum man driving the semi suffered undisclosed injuries and was taken to a Jamestown hospital.

Neither man was immediately identified.

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — Almost $80 million that more than 100 businesses, investors, government entities and others claim they’re owed won’t be paid out in bankruptcy proceedings for the Northern Beef Packers plant in South Dakota.

The American News reports that court documents show there’s slightly more than $1 million available to pay a long list of bills.

Attorney Forrest Allred, the bankruptcy trustee, tells the newspaper that the available money will cover administration fees, wage claims and some back taxes.

Northern Beef operated a beef processing plant in Aberdeen from 2012 until July 2013, when the company laid off its employees, filed bankruptcy and closed.

The plant was sold at a bankruptcy sale in December 2013. The new ownership group has no ties or obligations to the bankruptcy proceedings.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The grandparents of a Wisconsin 8th grader shot and killed by police say the teen had left school with the flu that morning.

An Ashland County Sheriff’s deputy shot 14-year-old Jason Pero on the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa reservation on Wednesday.

Authorities say Pero had a knife but haven’t elaborated. The state Justice Department is investigating. A DOJ spokeswoman declined comment Friday.

Pero’s grandparents, Alan and Cheryl Pero, told The Associated Press Friday that Jason lived with them and that he went home from school with the flu Wednesday morning.

They say an uncle was downstairs doing laundry when Jason left the house. They don’t know why he left.

Alan Pero says Jason took a butcher knife from the house, but that he “wouldn’t hurt a fly.”

In sports…

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.  UJ– The Jimmie men’s soccer team battled tough against ninth-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College in the semifinals of the A.I.I. conference tournament Friday morning at Grizzly Soccer Complex.

A defensive miscue by the Jimmies led to an own goal in the 52nd minute and proved to be the deciding factor in a 1-0 Georgia Gwinnett victory.

The first half was a feeling-out process with the two clubs, as both just managed three shots during the opening 45 minutes. The Jimmies had the only shot on goal in the period.

GGC picked up the offensive attack in the second half, outshooting Jamestown 13-2 overall and 12-1 on goal. The Grizzlies also had six corner kicks in the final 45, keeping UJ on the defensive.

Lasse Binder (SR/Hamburg, Germany) made a career-high 11 saves in the loss. Jamestown’s season comes to an end with an overall record of 6-7-1. Georgia Gwinnett advances to the championship game on Saturday.

LAS VEGAS, Nev.– The University of Nevada Las Vegas Skatin’ Rebels scored three times in the third period, handing the Jimmie hockey team a 5-3 defeat Thursday night at City National Arena.

UNLV took a 4-2 lead at the 12:42 mark of the third period, but Cole Sonstebo (SR/Fergus Falls, Minn.) brought the Jimmies back within a goal at 12:50. Tyler Chavez-Leech (FR/Red Deer, Alberta) got the assist.

Jamestown pulled its goaltender with 2:01 left in the game, but were unable to take advantage of the extra attacker.  The Rebels would add an empty-net goal to seal the victory.

The Jimmies 2-0 into the second period, when Eric Buckley (SO/Penticton, British Columbia) made it 2-1 at 11:54. He was assisted by Chavez-Leech and Garret Browning (SO/Winnipeg, Manitoba). Phoenix McElroy-Scott (SR/Morden, Manitoba) tied the game at 15:47 with assists from Chavez-Leech and Cole McKechney (SO/Calgary, Alberta).

UJ’s penalty kill unit was a perfect 8-for 8 against the Rebels’ power play. UNLV successfully killed off five Jimmie power play attempts.

Tallon Kramer (FR/Grand Prairie, Alberta) had 23 saves on 27 shots for the Jimmies, who begin a two-game series at Arizona State University Friday.

In world and national news…

NEW YORK (AP) — Comedian Louis C.K. says recent allegations of sexual misconduct are true and writes in a statement the he has used his power “irresponsibly.” The comedian writes that the sexual misconduct allegations by five women against him “are true” and he can hardly wrap his head around the scope of hurt he has brought on them.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A spokeswoman says Vice President Mike Pence finds the allegations against Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore disturbing. The Washington Post carried claims of sexual misconduct with minors that allegedly took place decades ago. The Pence spokeswoman says the misconduct, if it occurred, would “disqualify anyone from serving in office.” Other Republicans have said Moore should leave the race if the allegations are true. But some Republicans in Alabama say they’re standing behind him.

VATICAN CITY (AP) — A top NATO official is defending the alliance’s opposition to a new U.N. treaty calling for the elimination of nuclear weapons. NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller told a Vatican disarmament conference Friday that the treaty could undermine years of nonproliferation work and disregards current-day nuclear threats on the Korean peninsula. Other participants at the Vatican conference have resoundingly endorsed the U.N. treaty.

ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) — Sixteen months after agreeing to donate her husband’s face to a man who lived a decade without one, Lilly Ross saw and touched the familiar features of her high school sweetheart, but on another man. Ross and Andy Sandness’ lives are now permanently intertwined after the rare surgery performed at Minnesota’s Mayo Clinic. Their first meeting helped Ross get closure after her husband killed himself last year, and convinced the pair that they want to stay in each other’s lives.

DANANG, Vietnam (AP) — It may be an offbeat photo, but it’s no joke. World leaders, including President Donald Trump and Russia’s Vladimir Putin, donned matching dark blue silk button-down shirts at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit Friday in Vietnam. Since 1994, the summit included a “family photo” in local attire an annual display of cooperation among world leaders. It was a departure for Trump, who’s rarely photographed in anything but a suit and tie or a golf shirt.
