WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) — West Fargo police say a traffic stop on Interstate 94 netted 286 pounds of marijuana.

Authorities say the drugs seized on Tuesday are worth nearly $1.4 million on the street.

A 34-year-old woman from Askov, Minnesota, was arrested on a drug charge. Formal charges are pending.

Separately, the Highway Patrol reports a traffic stop on I-94 in Bismarck on Tuesday netted 30 pounds of marijuana worth about $49,000. A California man was arrested.

BISMARCK, N.D. (NDNG)- About 15 North Dakota Army National Guard Soldiers assigned to the Bismarck-based 957th Engineer Company (Multi-Role Bridge) unit have received an alert notification for possible mobilization. The decision to mobilize these Soldiers has not yet occurred, but if a decision is rendered to mobilize them, an official Department of the Army order will be published.

If mobilized, the Soldiers will be assigned to the combined joint operational area-Kuwait sometime during summer of 2019. These Soldiers specialize in combat engineering bridging operations and will assist in training Iraqi forces.

“I have the upmost confidence in the ability of these engineer Soldiers and their technical skills in supporting the U.S. Army’s training mission, said Maj. Gen. Alan S. Dohrmann, North Dakota adjutant general. “The superb continual support of our employers, family and friends will be instrumental in helping them achieve mission success.”

About 200 North Dakota Guard Soldiers with the 1st Battalion, 188th Air Defense Artillery Regiment are currently serving in the Washington, D.C. area, while approximately 120 Happy Hooligan Airmen are deployed overseas within the Central Command area. About 29 Soldiers with the Fargo-based 191st Military Police Company and four Soldiers with Bismarck-based Det. 7, C Company, 2nd Battalion, 245th Aviation Regiment are on alert for possible mobilization at this time.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota health officials are seeing a higher-than-normal amount of flu activity for this time of year.

The Health Department says it typically doesn’t start seeing case numbers escalate until at least mid-December. As of the end of last week, there had been 124 cases statewide, with 10 hospitalizations.

Two-thirds of the cases were in Cass, Burleigh, Morton and Stark counties. Nearly half of the state’s counties have reported cases.

Health Department Epidemiologist Jill Baber says the earlier increase in cases might signal an earlier-than-usual flu season. She urges people to get flu shots as soon as possible.

Baber says prevention is especially important around the holidays, when people are getting together at social gatherings and traveling in larger numbers.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Authorities have dismissed one criminal case against a woman accused of abusing her elderly mother during protests against the Dakota Access pipeline.

Fifty-nine-year-old Kathleen Bennett was accused of leaving her 82-year-old mother with dementia tied to a chair in a protest camp. The woman was taken to a hospital during a blizzard last December.

Bennett earlier this year pleaded not guilty to endangering a vulnerable adult.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that the defense and prosecution agreed Tuesday to dismiss the case with $2,050 in fines. Authorities said Bennett is in Nevada with limited funds, and there also were difficulties with getting witnesses for a trial next week.

Bennett also is charged with exploiting her mother by using $1,200 of her money without consent. That case is set for trial in January.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Minot Air Force Base is preparing for its Thanksgiving Day event for local senior citizens.

The Minot Daily News reports that about 200 residents have signed up to attend the “Day of Love” event.

Senior citizens receive a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings during the event and get to socialize with others. Buses from the base pick up the participants in downtown Minot and drive them to the facility.

Many airmen and civilians volunteer to help at the event that started in 1970 as a way to involve base personnel who were away from their families during the holiday.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota’s Health Department is accepting requests for proposals for a system to develop, maintain and monitor the state’s medical marijuana program.

State Health Officer Mylynn Tufte says the chosen system also will help in registering distribution centers and patient card holders.

Requests are being accepted through Dec. 27 at 3 p.m. More information can be found on the state Office of Management and Budget website .

Voters approved medical marijuana in November 2016. State lawmakers earlier this year crafted regulations that Gov. Doug Burgum approved in April. The drug isn’t expected to be available to patients for another year.

The Health Department is taking public comments on proposed administrative rules for the system through Dec. 26. Public meetings are scheduled in six cities next month.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Several North Dakota medical facilities are scrambling to stockpile IV bags in response to a nationwide shortage.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that the shortage is a result of disrupted production at major pharmaceutical manufacturers in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria’s destruction to the island in September.

Puerto Rico produces much of the pharmaceutical products for the U.S. Half of the island was still without power earlier this month.

In North Dakota, some medical facilities have requested IV bags from the state health department’s medical cache, a reserve of medical supplies.

Tim Wiedrich runs the health department’s emergency preparedness and response section. He says that at the current rate of consumption, the IV supply will run out in two to four weeks.

AMHERST, S.D. (AP) — A South Dakota official says TransCanada Corp.’s testing of water from a drainage ditch next to the Keystone pipeline’s estimated 210,000-gallon oil spill found no oil.

Brian Walsh, an environmental scientist manager for the state Department of Environment and Natural Resources, said Wednesday the ditch in Marshall County appears to flow into a creek.

But Walsh says officials haven’t spent significant resources following the ditch downstream because they know it’s not contaminated.

Officials don’t believe the leak polluted any surface water bodies or drinking water systems. A TransCanada spokeswoman said Tuesday the cause is unknown.

The company says that more than 16,000 gallons of oil had been removed as of Tuesday.

In world and national news…

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats have been quick to support the “me too” chorus of women _ and some men _ who have stepped up to allege sexual misconduct and name names. But now “me too” stains the Democrats, too, putting them in an awkward place as they calibrate how to respond. Allegations against Sen. Al Franken of Minnesota and Rep. John Conyers of Michigan are part of the newest chapter in the hot-potato politics of sexual predation for the party, which has its own fraught history on the subject.

HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) — Zimbabwe’s incoming leader Emmerson Mnangagwa says he was in constant contact with military leaders during the tumultuous two weeks between his firing by Robert Mugabe and his return to the country to replace him. Mnangagwa was making his first speech since his return. He describes threats to his life, including a poisoning in August, and says when he was threatened after his firing he fled the country. Mugabe resigned Tuesday after military pressure.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A group supporting Alabama Republican Senate nominee Roy Moore despite sexual misconduct allegations against him is fundraising off President Donald Trump’s near endorsement. An email from Solution Fund PAC with the subject line “Giving thanks for YOU and OUR PRESIDENT!” notes Trump’s “last words before leaving the White House to celebrate Thanksgiving” included “strong words of support for Roy Moore.” Trump on Tuesday insisted repeatedly that voters must not support Moore’s “liberal” rival.

HOUSTON (AP) — Almost three months to the day after Harvey slammed into Texas, killing more than 80 people and damaging at least 200,000 homes, residents of the Texas Gulf Coast are celebrating Thanksgiving however they can. Some are gathering at churches that have held large meals for people displaced by the storm and volunteers spending the holiday away from their families to help rebuild.

TOKYO (AP) — U.S. and Japanese naval ships and aircraft are searching for three people missing in the western Pacific Ocean after a U.S. Navy plane crashed while taking passengers and cargo to the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan. Eight other people were rescued and the Navy says they are in good condition. The Reagan is conducting a joint exercise with the Japanese navy.
