FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A woman charged in the death of a pregnant North Dakota woman intends to change her not-guilty plea.

Thirty-eight-year-old Brooke Crews filed a change-of-plea notice Monday in Cass County court. A hearing is set for Dec. 11.

Crews and her boyfriend, 32-year-old William Hoehn (HAYN), are each charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the death of 22-year-old Savanna Greywind, of Fargo. Greywind was eight months pregnant when she disappeared Aug. 19. Prosecutors allege that Crews admitted taking advantage of Greywind in an attempt to get her baby.

Greywind’s body was found in the Red River. Her boyfriend has said DNA tests confirmed that he and Greywind are the parents of the newborn girl found in the apartment of Crews and Hoehn.

Hoehn has pleaded not guilty. Messages left for the couple’s attorneys were not immediately returned Tuesday.

Daniel Vivas Ceron, a Colombian national who allegedly ran the enterprise from a Canadian prison, pleaded not guilty in Fargo Tuesday to obstruction of justice. An indictment says he wrote letters telling co-conspirators to remain silent and alerting other suspects about the investigation.

Vivas Ceron was charged earlier with five counts, including aiding in the distribution of fentanyl that resulted in the January 2015 death of 18-year-old Bailey Henke, of Grand Forks. Authorities say much of the fentanyl was manufactured in China.

Two Chinese nationals are charged in what authorities are calling one of the world’s most prolific fentanyl-trafficking and money-laundering operations.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Supporters of legalizing recreational marijuana in North Dakota are once again hoping to bring the matter to voters.

Secretary of State Al Jaeger says he received a draft petition on Tuesday and is reviewing it. If it’s approved, supporters would need to gather and submit at least 13,452 valid signatures to get a proposed measure on the ballot.

Petition sponsor Dave Owen of Grand Forks says the petition seeks to make it legal to grow, possess, use and distribute marijuana for people 21 and older. It also seeks to seal the records of anyone convicted of a marijuana-related crime that would be made legal under the measure.

Supporters of legalizing marijuana fell short on petition signatures in 2016.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — An accounting firm owner in western North Dakota will go on trial next year on federal fraud charges in connection to an oilfield venture that had dealings with a man convicted in a murder-for-hire plot.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that Rene L. Johnson was indicted in September. Her trial is scheduled to start in March in Bismarck.

Court documents allege Johnson offered doubled returns for investors on a high-risk $400,000 loan for Kingdom Dynamics Enterprise Inc. The indictment says investors declined, but they did contribute funds to Johnson’s investment business, and Johnson then funneled $400,000 from three investors to a Kingdom Dynamics bank account in 2013.

The newspaper reports Johnson didn’t return messages seeking comment Monday.

Kingdom Dynamics had dealings with James Henrikson, who was convicted in murder-for-hire plots connected to the deaths of two former oil patch associates.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Sanford Health says it will double the size of its neonatal intensive care unit in Bismarck.

Sanford’s current NICU can care for 12 patients and hospital officials say it’s always at capacity.

The Bismarck Tribune says Mark and Claudia Thompson donated $500,000 for the project. Their daughter gave birth prematurely to twins. One of the twins died shortly after birth at 24 weeks. The other survived and spent 117 days at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. Today, that child is in 6th grade and on the honor roll at her middle school.

AMHERST, S.D. (AP) — A federal agency says a leak in TransCanada Corp.’s Keystone oil pipeline in South Dakota likely was caused by damage during construction in 2008.

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration issued a corrective action report Tuesday on the estimated 210,000-gallon oil spill. The report says a weight installed on the pipeline nearly a decade ago may have damaged the pipeline and coating.

According to the report, weights are placed on the pipeline in areas “where water could potentially result in buoyancy concerns.”

TransCanada spokesman Mark Cooper said the company has been working cooperatively with the federal agency and has begun “a safe, controlled and gradual startup” of the pipeline. Cooper says that process will continue over the next couple of days.

South Dakota officials don’t believe the leak polluted any surface water bodies or drinking water systems. The company disclosed the buried pipeline leak on agricultural land in Marshall County on Nov. 16.
