NEW YORK (AP) — The FCC voted on party lines to undo sweeping Obama-era so called “net neutrality” rules that had classified the provision and regulation of Internet services under the 1930 era Title II Common Carrier classification.

“It is time for the Internet, once again, to be driven by engineers and entrepreneurs and consumers rather than lawyers, accountants and bureaucrats,” FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said in remarks before the vote.

Going forward, the vote will return many of the previous privacy regulations back to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and return the Internet Service providers back to a classification as Information Service & rules that they were under up through 2015.
