BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem (STEHN’-juhm) says a loaded gun may be stored in a vehicle but proper identification must be revealed to law enforcement during a traffic stop.
Stenehjem says in a written opinion issued Thursday that a valid state driver’s license or other proper identification “is the equivalent of a valid concealed weapons license” under North Dakota’s so-called constitutional carry law.
The law took effect in August and allows law-abiding adults to forgo background checks and classes.
Mandan Republican Rep. Todd Porter and some other GOP lawmakers asked for the opinion, after some law enforcement and prosecutors raised questions if it was legal to have a loaded weapon in a vehicle without a permit.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A longtime state senator from Bismarck is retiring.

Kilzer represents District 47, which covers northwestern Bismarck and is heavily Republican. Kilzer says he’s talked to about five people who are interested in the seat.
One contender is Tom Trenbeath (TREN’-beth), who retired last year as North Dakota’s chief deputy attorney general. Trenbeath previously served in the state Senate from 2000 to 2006, before joining the attorney general’s office.
As senator, Trenbeath represented District 10, in northeastern North Dakota.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Federal Communications Commission has voted on party lines to undo sweeping Obama-era “net neutrality” rules that guaranteed equal access to internet.
The agency’s Democratic commissioners dissented in the 3-2 vote Thursday.
The FCC’s new rules could usher in big changes in how Americans use the internet. The agency got rid of rules that barred companies like Comcast, AT&T and Verizon from playing favorites with internet apps and sites.
The broadband industry promises that the internet experience isn’t going to change. But protests have erupted online and in the streets as everyday Americans worry that cable and phone companies will be able to control what they see and do online.
Net-neutrality supporters plan legal challenges. Some Democrats hope to ride that wave of public opinion into the 2018 elections.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Sen. Marco Rubio says he’s a “no” vote on the sweeping tax package _ unless the child tax credit is more generous to low-income families. The bill would expand the child tax credit to $2,000 from $1,000. The Florida lawmaker wants a further expansion, and his opposition undercuts Republican leaders trying to muscle the tax bill through the Senate next week.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s “America First” vision is a stark worldview that sees rivals battling each other for supremacy or relevance and has little use for alliances, treaties and other international agreements unless they directly benefit the United States, its industry and workers. Trump’s doctrine, to be laid out next week, holds that nation states are in perpetual competition and the U.S. must fight on all fronts to protect and defend its sovereignty from friend and foe alike.
WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Paul Ryan says Republican Rep. Blake Farenthold has “made the right decision” to retire at the end of his term amid allegations of sexual harassment. Ryan tells journalists he’s spoken to the four-term Texas lawmaker, who said in a Facebook video: “I am announcing my decision not to run for re-election.” Accusations against Farenthold first surfaced in 2014, when a former aide sued him over sexually suggestive comments and behavior and said she’d been fired after she complained.
