JAMESTOWN– (UJ.edu)  Dylan Haney (FR/Brandon, Manitoba)’s second period power play goal proved to be the deciding factor for the 16th-ranked Jimmie hockey team as they defeated No. 10 Nevada-Las Vegas 4-2 Saturday night at Wilson Arena.

Haney’s third of the season came at the 16:24 mark of the second and broke a 2-2 tie. Kyle Baron (SO/Abbotsford, British Columbia) and Eric Buckley (SO/Penticton, British Columbia) got credit for the assists.

Jamestown (15-11-0-1) led 2-0 after the first on goals by Phoenix McElroy-Scott (SR/Morden, Manitoba) and Buckley. The Rebels (15-8-0-0) answered back with a pair of scores in just under two and a half minutes to tie the game. Elijiah Barriga scored on the power play at 8:37, then Jake Saxe tied the game at 11:01.

Michael Pruss (SO/Red Deer, Alberta) provided the Jimmies with an insurance goal coming just 20 seconds into the final period. Assists went to Cameron Todd (SO/Burraneer, Australia) and Allan Pruss (SO/Red Deer, Alberta).

Following a Jimmie penalty with 4:37 left in the period, UNLV opted to pull goaltender Alex Feese for an extra attacker, creating a 6-on-4 situation. UJ successfully killed off the penalty, but with 2:06 left, another penalty was called on the home team, putting them down another player for essentially the remainder of the game. Once again the Jimmie penalty kill unit came through and preserved the victory.

Tyson Brouwer (SO/Lethbridge, Alberta) had 24 saves in the win. Feese had 23 saves for the Rebels.

Jamestown finished their five-game homestand a perfect 5-0 and will take to the road for a pair of games January 19-20 against the University of Illinois.
