In world and national news…
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — King’s daughter, the Rev. Bernice King, urged people to remember her father by doing “an act of kindness toward someone of another race” between now and April 4, the day the Rev. Martin Luther King was assassinated in 1968. She asked hundreds of people gathered Monday at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, where her father once preached, to “connect and find a sense of humanity in each other.” And she reminded the crowd that “we are one people, one nation, one blood, one destiny.”
WASHINGTON (AP) — Martin Luther King Jr.’s eldest son is calling out President Donald Trump following accusations the president used a vulgarity to describe African countries during a closed-door meeting last week and expressed a preference for immigrants from countries like Norway. Speaking Monday, Martin Luther King III said: “When a president insists that our nation needs more citizens from white states like Norway. I don’t even think we need to spend any time even talking about what it says and what it is.”
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — President Donald Trump says the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream of a colorblind society is the American dream. Trump dedicated his weekly address to King, the civil rights leader who was assassinated 50 years ago in April. Trump is marking his first King holiday in office buffeted by claims that he used a vulgarity to describe African countries. Trump spent the holiday in Florida with no public appearances on his schedule
LONDON (AP) — A publicist says Dolores O’Riordan, lead singer of Irish band The Cranberries, has died aged 46. Lindsey Holmes says O’Riordan has died suddenly in London, where she was recording. The Limerick band became international stars in the 1990s with hits including “Zombie” and “Linger.”
PARIS (AP) — Slovenian-born Melania Trump has been unafraid to go against her husband’s “America First” agenda and stay true to her roots. That’s if there’s a message to be taken from her bold, foreign-flavored first lady wardrobe in 2017. Several American fashion designers publicly refused to dress her in an industry-wide backlash over her unpopular spouse. Mrs. Trump has often been seen wrapping herself in the clothes of her home continent: Europe.
