YPSILANTI, N.D. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of a man killed when his car struck three horses standing in a county road west of Ypsilanti, in southeastern North Dakota.

The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office identifies the victim as 24-year-old Cruz Schumacher of Jamestown.

The crash happened just before 5 a.m. Saturday. After striking the horses, Schumacher’s Pontiac Grand Prix left the road and crashed into a semi-trailer parked in a private lot.

Schumacher died at the scene. All three horses were killed.

Cruz Schumacher, 24, Jamestown, N.D., died Saturday, Jan. 27, in Ypsilanti from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown. the funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Jamestown.

Stutsman County Deputy Casey Yunck says the accident happened just before 5 a.m. Saturday. After striking the horses, the man’s vehicle left the road and crashed into a semi-trailer parked in a private lot.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.   All three horses were killed.

The crash remains under investigation.   The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Jamestown Area Ambulance, and Jamestown Rural  Fire Department and JFD Rescue Squad.
