Jamestown  (CSi-JAGST)  The Jamestown Area Grief Support Team will present “Soup for the Soul” on Thursday, February 22, at 6:00 p.m. at the James River Senior Center, located at the Legacy Center, 419 5th Street NE, Jamestown, ND (use the west door on 4th Ave NE across from Lincoln School).  The theme of this evening is “Grieving the Loss of a Pet”

The death of a companion animal unquestionably causes grief.   The family pet is not just a dog or a cat; it’s a member of the family. Our pets offer us constant companionship, acceptance and unconditional love. Studies have shown that pets can lower blood pressure, change heart rate and alleviate feelings of loneliness.  With the death of that pet, a family experiences a significant loss.

With these things in mind the Jamestown Area Grief Support Team has put together of panel of experts including veterinarian, Dr. Dawn Entzminger, Reverend Tom Eckstein, Clarice Snow and Gary Sahr of the James River Humane Society and Kaye John from Prairie Paws Rescue.  Panel members will discuss the affects of the loss of a beloved pet and share ideas on how to handle that loss.

Everyone is welcome to share in this informal evening that includes a meal of soup.  The program is free and open to all.  Please bring a picture of your pet.  For more information on this program or the Jamestown Area Grief Support Team, please call Diane at 320-4915.

In world and national news…

WASHINGTON (AP) — Four of the Supreme Court’s nine justices are expected to attend President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address. Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Stephen Breyer, Elena Kagan and Neil Gorsuch are expected at the speech.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says it’s unlikely that a classified memo on the Russia investigation written by Republicans on the House intelligence committee will be released Tuesday. Spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on “Fox and Friends” that President Donald Trump’s legal and national security teams must review the document before any release. She said Trump wants to stay focused on the State of the Union address he plans to deliver Tuesday night.

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin says the report released by his office will lead to new sanctions against Russia. The Treasury Department has released the list of 114 Russian politicians and 96 “oligarchs” in line with a sanctions law passed by Congress last year to punish Moscow for interfering in the 2016 U.S. election.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Federal Communications Commission says mistakes led to a false alert that warned of an incoming ballistic missile earlier this month. A recorded message played that included the drill language, “Exercise, exercise, exercise.” However, the message also erroneously contained the text for a live ballistic missile alert, saying, “This is not a drill.”

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis is sending the Vatican’s most respected sex crimes expert to Chile to investigate a bishop accused of covering up for the country’s most notorious pedophile priest. The Vatican says that Maltese Archbishop Charles Scicluna would travel to Chile “to listen to those who have expressed the desire to provide elements” about the case of Bishop Juan Barros. The move marks the first known time the Vatican has launched a full-blown investigation of an alleged sex abuse cover-up.
