Washington  –   Fox News reports that an Amtrak train carrying Republican members of congress to a retreat, crashed on Wednesday morning, west of Charlottesville, Virginia, headed to the Greenbrier resort, in West Virginia.

Fox News reports, minor injuries were reported by those on board. But the White House confirmed in a statement that there was one “fatality” and one serious injury; lawmakers said this involved those in the truck, which may have been stuck on the tracks when it was hit.

Staff members say Rep. Jason Lewis of Minnesota has been taken to a hospital after being injured in a train accident in Virginia.

Members of his staff tweeted that the first-term congressman was being checked for a possible concussion after the Wednesday crash.

Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Calif., who was on board, told Fox News, “It was a very high-speed collision. There was no braking that was felt. We hit an immediate impact and went from 70 to zero very quickly.

Congressman Kevin Cramer and his wife onboard the train are okay.

Fox reports the locomotive came off the tracks after the crash.

And was later towed from the scene.

The passengers were later bused to the retreat.

The accident took place in Crozet, Va., near Charlottesville, Va. Members were on a special chartered Amtrak train to the Greenbrier resort, where Vice President Pence was set to speak Wednesday night, with a planned appearance from President Trump on Thursday.
