A strong storm is taking aim on the Northern Plains Sunday into
early next week. There remains a lot of uncertainty with respect
to the track and impacts of this system, but rain, snow and strong
winds are all possible.
Jamestown (CSi) Buffalo Mall merchants are sponsoring their 13th annual Business Leaders Soup Spectacular Cook-off contest to raise funds for the James River Senior Center Home Delivered Meal Program. The date has been set for Saturday, March 10th, 2018 from 11:00am – 1:00pm in the Buffalo Mall commons area.
On Tuesday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Buffalo Mall, Manager, Bev Dawson said, community business leaders and service clubs will enter their favorite soup.
For $5.00 the public is invited to taste the soup entries and cast their vote for
the best soup in Jamestown. Also, an additional dollar will allow a vote on another soup choice. 100% of the proceeds benefit the Home Delivered Meal Program.
She added that those wishing to may enter chili of stew as well.
Award will be presented at 1-p.m., for:
People’s Choice of the Best Soup-voted on by the public.

In conjunction with the soup cook-off, the Jamestown Volunteer Center will
host a benefit bake sale for the Home Delivered Meal Program.

During the time of the Soup Spectacular, James River Transit has a special on rides to the Buffalo Mall at $1 each way.
Last year, a total of $2,319 was raised from the Soup Spectacular activities, $1,641 from the soup voting, and another $658 from the Bake Sale.
James River Community Center, Office Manager, Rhonda Sahr added that in 2017 the Center’s Home Delivered Meals Program made 16,623 deliveries in the city of Jamestown.
She said hot meals are delivered Monday-Friday and frozen meals are available on the weekend, that are delivered on Fridays.
She pointed out that volunteer drivers are always welcome, and may deliver meals one day per week, one day per month, or whatever fits their schedule.
Currently drivers deliver meals on eight routes.

Jamestown (CSi) A few members of the Jamestown Shriners have decided to start a new club called EZ (El Zagal) Wheels, for those people interested in classic cars, street rods, motorcycles or anything with wheels.
The first fundraising activity for EZ Wheels will be the Cornhole Bean Bag Tournament, On Saturday March 10th starting at noon at the Knights of Columbus Hall. This tournament, expected to be an annual event, is open to anyone 21 years and older.

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Tourism Grant and Executive advisory Board has unanimously approved a $1,200 grant for Dakota Lawn Care Spring Fling Vendor Show to help with advertising expenses. The event will be held on March 24th at the Jamestown Civic Center, the first year of the event.
The business’ owner John Doehler says 12 vendors will display lawn and outdoor project items in the local area.
The application states that an anticipated $500,000 in spending by visitors would bring $10,020 in taxes for the city of Jamestown.
The board also approved a $5,000 grant toward the National Buffalo Museum for the Buffalo Hall of Fame interactive kiosk project.
The Museum’s Director, Ilana Xinos application says the $6,903 project will move the Buffalo Hall of Fame display to another location in the museum, part of a renovation, she said is expected to be completed in April.
Bismarck (CSi) – In Accordance with President Trump, Gov. Doug Burgum has directed all government agencies to fly the United States and North Dakota flags at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, March 2, as a mark of respect for the memory of Reverend Billy Graham.
Individuals and businesses also are encouraged to fly the flags at half-staff during the same time period.
The governor’s directive is in accordance with a proclamation issued by President Donald Trump to lower flags to half-staff on March 2 for the interment of Graham.
ST. ANTHONY, Idaho (AP) — Eastern Idaho officials have identified a North Dakota man killed in a snowmobile crash.
The Fremont County sheriff’s office in a news release Monday says 32-year-old Wayne Halverson of Wishek died Saturday in Island Park when he went off a trail and ran into a tree.
Officials say other snowmobilers and emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but Halverson was pronounced dead at about 8:30 p.m.
Halverson is the fourth snowmobiler to die in eastern Idaho this year. The other three deaths were caused by avalanches.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The president of the Fargo School Board has been removed following reports of bullying and threatening comments to a board member and condescending remarks to parents.
Board member Jennifer Benson tearfully told colleagues Tuesday night about Jim Johnson cornering her after a recent meeting and swearing at her. Benson says Johnson also disrespected parents who spoke up about concerns over possible school boundary changes during the same Feb. 13 meeting. Benson asked the board to follow its code of conduct policy and remove Johnson as president.
KFGO reports Johnson denied he spoke in a condescending way to anybody and says he’d say the same things again. He’ll stay on as a board member.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota’s Public Service Commission says utility ratepayers may see some lower bills due to reductions in federal corporate income tax rates.
The three-member, all-Republican panel last month ordered four public utilities to calculate savings from their federal corporate income tax rates.
The utilities involved are Montana-Dakota Utilities Co., Great Plains Natural Gas Co., Otter Tail Power Co. and Xcel Energy.
State regulators earlier approved temporary rate increases for MDU and Otter Tail. Under state law, utilities may collect temporary increases while the PSC studies their request for a rate hike.
MDU and Otter Tail already have submitted plans to slightly decrease their proposed rate increases. PSC members say their final action on the utilities’ calculations won’t be completed until late summer or early fall.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Fargo City Commissioners have affirmatively responded to downtown business leaders who want to relax the city’s public drinking ban.
Commissioners voted unanimously to direct the city attorney to draft an amendment to the drinking ordinance.
KFGO reports Downtown Community Partnership CEO Melissa Rademacher told commissioners a relaxed ordinance would benefit restaurants and retailers by bringing in more business. Rademacher says Sioux Falls allows public drinking at certain downtown events and it’s been a success.?
Commissioner Tony Gehrig says the city should be ready to approve requests to loosen public drinking at events outside of the downtown area as well.

FOX Sports North and the Minnesota Twins announced a 154-game telecast for the 2018 season Monday. FOX Sports North (CSi 25) will serve as the exclusive, local television home for the Minnesota Twins.
FOX Sports North’s regular season coverage begins Thursday, March 29 with the Twins season opener against the Baltimore Orioles starting at 1:30 p.m. with Twins Live. The Twins’ first homestand will take place April 5, when the Minnesota hosts Seattle. The regional sports network’s coverage of the home opener will begin at 2 pm with a special one-hour edition of Twins Live.
Highlights of the 2018 schedule includes six games against the New York Yankees, 16 games against the Cleveland Indians, six games against the World Series Champion Houston Astros and a weekend series against the Cubs in Chicago.
The team is slated to take the national stage on FS1 six times, including April 17 when the Twins take on Cleveland from Puerto Rico.

Security officials reviewed videotape from Sunday’s game and identified the fan sitting near the court. He yelled at Mills while the Spurs guard was shooting free throws in the fourth quarter.

Union to battle 4 teams over revenue-sharing money
UNDATED (AP) — The Major League Baseball Players Association has filed a grievance against the Miami Marlins, Oakland Athletics, Pittsburgh Pirates and Tampa Bay Rays.
The union accuses the four teams of failing to appropriately spend revenue-sharing money to improve their ballclubs.
MLB says the complaint has no merit, while Pirates president Frank Coonelly called the grievance “patently baseless.”
— A person with knowledge of the negotiations says two-time NL Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum (LIHN’-seh-kuhm) is in discussions with the Rangers on a one-year deal. Lincecum last pitched in the majors for the 2016 Angels, going 2-6 with a hefty 9.16 ERA in nine starts. He enjoyed far better success with the Giants, helping the team win three World Series and going 108-83 with two no-hitters and a 3.74 ERA.
— The Seattle Mariners say pitcher Felix Hernandez is still very sore after taking a line drive off his right forearm on Monday. X-rays were negative.
— First baseman Mike Napoli has agreed to a minor league contract with the Indians, pending the completion of a physical. Napoli spent 2016 with the Indians and had a major role in getting the club to the World Series.

UNDATED (AP) — Eagles punter Donnie Jones has announced his retirement after 14 NFL seasons.
Jones played for Seattle, Miami, St. Louis and Houston before joining Philadelphia in 2013. He set an Eagles career record for punters with 70 games played and finishes his career with the third-longest consecutive-games-played streak at 208, behind only Houston punter Shane Lecher and Dallas tight end Jason Witten.

NEW YORK (AP) — The United States Tennis Association will honor Althea Gibson with a statue at the U.S. Open.
The first African-American to win the U.S. Nationals singles title in 1957 will be commemorated at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
The U.S. Nationals were the precursor to the U.S. Open. She won both the U.S. Nationals and Wimbledon titles in 1957 and 1958.

PARKLAND, Fla. (AP) — Teachers and students are arriving early at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, their first day back after an expelled classmate with an AR-15 killed 17 people in a Valentine’s Day massacre that has profoundly altered the lives of survivors.
A long line of cars bringing people back to the school in Parkland, Florida is being guided by police as dozens of television trucks and vehicles camp out nearby.
Only students, parents and staff are being allowed through a security cordon. The main entrance is covered with a sign saying “Welcome Back Eagles.”
BEIRUT (AP) — The Syrian government’s battle to recapture the rebel-held eastern suburbs of Damascus is likely to be a long and bloody fight because of the presence of thousands of battle-hardened fighters who have had years to prepare.
Many of the fighters entrenched in eastern Ghouta are originally from the area and move around using an elaborate network of underground tunnels, giving them an advantage against President Bashar Assad’s forces and their Russian- and Iranian-backed allies.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Rev. Billy Graham is getting a rare tribute by the nation’s political leaders under the Capitol Rotunda in Washington.
The North Carolina minister, called “America’s pastor” by some, is lying in honor Wednesday and Thursday in Washington, where he counseled presidents and others over more than 60 years. President Donald Trump, House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are among those attending.
Graham met every president back to Harry Truman and counseled most of them. Ryan says there had been no doubt that Graham would get the honor of a Capitol ceremony because he had influenced the nation’s spiritual life.
Graham will lie in honor until Thursday. A funeral and burial are set for Friday at his Charlotte, North Carolina, home.
