Eugenie Lang, 69, Bismarck, died on Weds April 11 at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck.  A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 16, at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 – 7 with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Genie was born August 5, 1948, in Carson, ND, the daughter of Art and Betty (Martel) Eslinger. She attended school in Elgin, ND, graduating from Elgin High School. Genie married Myrle P. Lang, son of Theodore and Louise (Gums) Lang, at Faith Lutheran Church in Bismarck on July 26, 1969.

Genie attended Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing, graduating with a Diploma in Nursing in 1971. Later she attended Jamestown College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Nursing in 1990. She worked at various hospitals and health facilities throughout North Dakota before settling in Jamestown.

Genie worked at the North Dakota State Hospital for several years. She then worked for the North Dakota State Department of Health, Division of Disease Control, as a Field Epidemiologist in the Jamestown area. She continued to work for the North Dakota Health Department until her retirement. Later Genie moved to Bismarck and lived there until her death.

Genie was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. During her life Genie was also an active member of The American Legion Auxiliary, Burleigh and Stutsman County Chapters of Thrivent, The Germans from Russia Heritage Society, and she served on the board for Churches United for The Homeless, a homeless shelter in Moorhead, MN. Genie also served as president for the North Dakota Sate Genealogical Society. She was also involved the North Dakota Association of the Blind. At the time of her death Genie was serving on the Governor’s Committee for Vocational Rehabilitation.

Genie also had a love for hockey. It was this love that led her to be a billet mom for the Bismarck Bobcats for 6 years. She treated these young men as the sons she never had, and they saw her as a second mom.

Genie enjoyed crches and the nativity, bird watching, pinochle, reading, hardanger, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Gretchen Campbell, Bismarck, and Tonya (Brant) Adams, Ontario, OH; one granddaughter Hermione Adams; three sisters: Carol (Gary) Baesler, Bremerton, WA, Dale Carmen (Ken Trana), Bismarck, and Gloria (Keith) Payne, Elgin; and one brother, Fred (Colleen) Eslinger, Elgin; and a very special friend, Jocelyn Quarstad, Killeen, TX. She is also survived by Lang family members Bernadine (Roger) Kuhn of Owatonna, MN; Dora (Bill) Roth of Spring, TX; Erica (Al) Wangler of Bismarck; Wally (Sue) Lang of Larimore, ND; and Arlyn Lang of Moorhead, MN. She is also survived by a very special young man, Evan Giesler, Colorado Springs, CO, her first and longest billet son.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Myrle; granddaughter, Shelby Lynn Campbell; her parents, Art and Betty Eslinger; her father and mother-in-law, Ted and Louise Lang; brother-in-law, Wesley Lang; sister-in-law, Bert Hovdestad; and nephew, John Kuhn.
