Jamestown  (CSi)  The National Buffalo Museum in Jamestown has announced the newest addition to their herd in 2018.

The news release says, “The National Buffalo Museum is pleased to announce the birth of RE/MAX, the first calf born in the museum’s herd in 2018. The cinnamon-colored calf was born on Saturday, April 14, and appears to be a healthy new addition to the herd.”

Bison calves are typically born in the spring and weigh between 40 and 50 pounds at birth.

“Calves like RE/MAX stay close to their mothers for the first year of their lives, but they do grow up quickly. They are weaned between seven and twelve months of age and are well on their way to their adult weight of 700 to 2000 pounds.”

They are fully mature and ready to reproduce when they are three years old.

RE/MAX was named by Robert and Beth Keller of Jamestown, North Dakota, who won the opportunity to name the first calf born in the museum’s herd this year at the organization’s 2017 auction fundraiser.

The 2018 auction and dinner, “Cheers to 25 Years,” is scheduled for June 20 at the Jamestown Civic Center.
