Jamestown  (Chamber)  Members of the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors held a ribbon cutting ceremony for Medallus Medical Urgent Care and Primary Care to celebrate the opening of their new clinic facility, located at 721A 1st Avenue South in Jamestown.

Joining the Ambassadors were the Medallus staff and members of the Jamestown Public School District’s health partnership team, who were instrumental in bringing this organization to the community to help support the school staff, families and residents of the community.

The facility has seven exam rooms and is able to provide care for up to 100 patients per day.  Roxanne Johnson, nurse practitioner, and Jody Tanner, physician assistant, will be providing the primary and urgent care, along with nursing staff and Maria Kasti is the clinic manager for the new facility.  They work closely with the Jamestown Regional Medical Center if there is a need for more in-depth services. Jamestown  (Chamber)  Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce Executive, Becky Thatcher-Keller says, the Chamber has attended events and made awards to local businesses.

Members of the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Committee and the Young Professionals of Jamestown presented the Customer Service Award for April to Penny Orr of Orriginals, Inc. for her outstanding customer service.  The chamber honors individuals who demonstrate a consistent commitment to delivering products or services that satisfy customers by exceeding their requirements or expectations.

Members of the Young Professionals of Jamestown and the Jamestown Chamber Ambassadors recently presented a Business of the Month Award to Eckman’s Auto Service of Jamestown for their outstanding customer service and continued commitment to the community.

Meanwhile, the city denied a petition submitted by three Valley City residents, Brian Mindt, Lloyd Nelson and Gary Schlagel to get an initiated measure for a future vote.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The company that built the Dakota Access pipeline has donated $5 million to the University of Mary in Bismarck.The Roman Catholic university announced the donation Friday from Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners.ETP remains at the center of controversy over the pipeline that will transfer oil from North Dakota to Illinois. Construction of the $3.8 billion pipeline has been the object of protests by the Standing Rock Sioux, whose reservation lies near the pipeline route, and the tribe’s allies, who fear a leak could contaminate their drinking water.

ETP says the pipeline is safe.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota’s Health Department has received 17 applications so far from potential manufacturers of medical marijuana.Medical Marijuana Division Director Jason Wahl says the deadline was Thursday but it has been extended until Monday morning because of a time error in the state’s application posting.Wahl says a seven-member panel made up of health officials, citizens, law enforcement and a state lawyer will begin examining the applications on Monday. Applicants had to submit a $5,000 nonrefundable fee.

The state will register two manufacturers.

State officials have been developing the medical marijuana system since legislators crafted a law a year ago. That followed voters’ approval of the drug in November 2016.

Wahl says medical marijuana should be available in North Dakota by the end of the year.

 

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Police say a 33-year-old woman wanted for questioning in a Minot shooting has turned herself in to authorities.

A 54-year-old man was shot in the leg Tuesday. He was taken to Trinity Hospital, treated and released.

Police say the woman surrendered on unrelated warrants. The investigation into the shooting continues.

 

 

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — An 18-year-old man has been charged in a shooting at an oil well site near Williston.

Gage Cox is charged with conspiracy to commit criminal mischief, a felony. Police say Cox used a semi-automatic rifle that he had stolen from a truck in Williston to shoot a power supply box and two oil tanks at a Statoil well site last August.

The Bismarck Tribune says Cox is also accused of breaking into a Williston apartment with two others in August and stealing purses and credit cards. It was not immediately clear if Cox has hired an attorney.

 

 

MAIDA, N.D. (AP) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials have closed a Canadian entry port in northeastern North Dakota because of a propane leak.

Officials say the Maida entry port remains closed Friday after the leak was discovered Thursday by customs officers who have evacuated the port while repairs are made.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security spokesman Christopher Misson says an underground propane tank began leaking. He says the port should reopen Saturday when repairs are made and the propane dissipates.

Maida is a permit port, which means a permit is required to import commercial merchandise into the U.S. The nearby ports of Hannah and Walhalla will honor commercial permits issued for Maida while it’s closed.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump fumed at former national security adviser Michael Flynn over a delayed return call to Russian President Vladimir Putin. That’s what two people familiar with the call told The Associated Press. Trump’s displeasure with Flynn was revealed late Thursday in memos written by former FBI Director James Comey. The identity of the foreign leader who called Trump was blacked out in the copies of the memos sent to Capitol Hill on Thursday and obtained by the AP.

 

 

 

 

 

NEW YORK (AP) — The Democratic National Committee on Friday sued President Donald Trump’s campaign, Trump’s son, his son-in-law, the Russian Federation and WikiLeaks. The Democrats accuse the defendants of conspiring to help Trump win the 2016 presidential election after breaking into DNC computers and stealing tens of thousands of emails and documents.

 

 

 

 

 

UNDATED (AP) — The latest wave of school walkouts has sparked large demonstrations against gun violence in several cities. Hundreds of students gathered in New York City’s Washington Square Park on Friday chanting “the NRA has got to go!” and “Enough is enough.” A student from a Detroit-area high school marched through nearby streets chanting “are we next?” as they carried signs honoring the victims of several mass shootings.

 

 

 

 

HOUSTON (AP) — Former President George H.W. Bush is greeting mourners as they pay their respects and walk past the casket of his wife of 73 years. The nation’s 41st president was seated in a chair a few feet away from the rose-covered casket Friday at the church in Houston that he and his wife, Barbara, had long attended. She died Tuesday at age 92. Officials say about 1,600 people had paid their respects in about the first hour of public viewing.

 

 

 

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — The Gaza Health Ministry says two more Palestinians, including a 15-year-old boy, have been killed by Israeli army fire on the Gaza border. The deaths bring to four the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces Friday, the fourth weekly protest in the border area.
