Tuesday evening’s storm totals were .27 of an inch of rain at the Jamestown Weather Station, .35 of an inch on the CSi Weather Computer in Downtown Jamestown at Historic Franklin School.  The weather station reported a peak wind gust of 71 mph.

During the storm Valley City reported a power outage, and a brief power interruption  in parts of Jamestown stemming from downed lines.

The high wind caused tree damages as well.

Next possible severe weather is in  south central ND late Thursday night.

Another system follows for Friday with more showers and thunderstorms, some possibly severe.

 

 

Jamestown  (CSi)  The City of Jamestown reports that due to above average mosquito count in the NE area of the City, fogging operations for adult mosquitoes is scheduled to begin Thursday, June 7 & Friday, June 8.

Fogging operations will take place between approximately 8:30 PM (dusk) until approximately 6:00 AM.

Parents are advised to keep children out of the streets and away from the fogging machines.

Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling in the vicinity of the fogging units.

All fogging operations are contingent upon weather conditions. 

 

 

Jamestown (CSi)  The Veterans administration Board of Appeals has resolved a record number of claims to date for Fiscal Year 2018.

On Wednesday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Stutsman County Veterans Service Office, David Bratton said, the Board is on track to meet and exceed the FY 2018 total goal of reviewing an historic 81,000 appeals by September 30th this year.

As of May 27th this year the Board of Appeals has signed more than 53,650 decisions, 86 percent more than the same period last year.

The full implementation of the Appeals Modernization Act is anticipated on February 14, 2019, and will offer veterans more choice and control over their claims and appeals process.

Bratton is available at his office in the basement of the Law Enforcement Center in Jamestown gives assistance on this or any other services.

The office hours are Monday through Friday from 8-a.m. to noon, and 1-p.m., to 5-p.m., except federal holidays.

On another topic, Bratton pointed out that President Trump has signed an Executive Order supporting mental health care for transitioning  service members.

It directs the VA, The Department of Defense, and the Department of Homeland Security to collaborate to provide, to the extent consistent with law, seamless access to mental health care and suicide prevention resources for veterans, with a focus on the first year after separation from military service.

The White House will closely monitor the outcomes of the Joint Action Plan.

 

BELCOURT, N.D. (AP) — A suspicious package prompted the evacuation of the Turtle Mountain Tribe’s administration building in Belcourt.

Tribal Chairman Jamie Azure tells KMOT-TV that a package was delivered to the facility Tuesday afternoon with a name that matched threatening emails previously sent to the tribe.

Tribal leaders told everyone to leave the building about 4 p.m. and called in bomb squad investigators. The package was later deemed harmless.

 

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — An 85-year-old Fargo man accused of shooting and killing his wife during an alleged double suicide pact has been arraigned in his hospital room.Louis Averson is being treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound, so his arraignment took place at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo Tuesday. Prosecutors say fatally shot his 85-year-old wife, Ila Averson, after both tried to die by carbon monoxide poisoning in their garage last Friday.Louis Averson says his wife was in poor health, so they decided to take their own lives. Anderson is charged with felony murder with intention.Averson told Judge Frank Racek to do “whatever you gotta do” because he wasn’t going anywhere.A preliminary hearing is scheduled July 11. 

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Supreme Court says a female officer went too far during a pat-down search when she removed cash and drug paraphernalia from the bra of a woman with a history of concealing contraband.Defendant Jessica Broom appealed to the high court after a judge refused to suppress evidence from the March 2017 search in Bismarck. Police said Broom’s anxiety, criminal history and ability to hide items warranted the officer to check inside her bra. Broom said her criminal history did not include concealing weapons.The officer testified she felt a “large, soft bulge” inside Broom’s bra during the pat-down, but it was nothing similar to a gun or knife. Justices say that did not justify an invasive search. They threw out Broom’s guilty pleas on two drug charges.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Inmates at the North Dakota State Penitentiary in Bismarck are planting with a unique purpose.

A $10,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has allowed inmates to create a big garden on the prison’s property. The inmates are tending the garden to help the homeless or those who don’t have enough food.

KXMB-TV says the produce the inmates are growing will go to Ministry on the Margin and Ruth Meier’s Hospitality House in Bismarck and the Great Plains Food Bank.

OAKES, N.D. (AP) — A 10-year-old boy from a town in North Dakota will compete at a world archery championship contest this weekend.Braysen Sagert will participate in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) World Championships June 7-9 in Louisville, Kentucky. Sagert is the first archer from Oakes to ever qualify for the competition, the Aberdeen American News reported .Sagert began practicing archery when he was 4. He started competing a year later with the Oakes National Archery in the Schools Program club.”Braysen started coming with me to shoot instead of going to day care,” said Shawn Sagert, Braysen’s father. “He’s just really loved shooting since that beginning.”The young archer finished at the NASP National Championship with a score of 279, qualifying for a place in this weekend’s world championships.”As a parent, I was a nervous wreck to be honest,” Shawn Sagert said. “I was more nervous than (Braysen) was, which was good.”

Sagert said his strategy for scoring high at the world event is “just thinking about shooting, really.”

“I might be a little nervous because I’ve never been at world championship. It might be a little harder to get focused, but I don’t know,” he said. “I just want to have fun.”
