Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Tourism has started their “Feed the Buffalo” campaign.
Tourism Office Manager, Emily Bivens tells CSiNewsNow.com that dollars raised will go toward refurbishing World’s Large Buffalo statue, at Frontier Village in Jamestown.
She says the buffalo was repainted two to three years ago, and the new coat of paint at cost of $8,000 is expected to last five years.
She says the refurbishing work will begin when the statue is anticipated to need repainting.
The work will include stripping several layers of paint, cleaning, repairing of cracks and a seal coat at the top before repainting.
She adds, that the refurbishing costs will need to be re-estimated, and its possible additional funds may be requested from the Capital Improvement Fund, to meet the costs.
Now located at the World’s Largest Buffalo, to place donations, is a bison silhouette cutout, created by Dan Poland Machine, Inc., of Jamestown constructed of steel with an opening at the bison’s mouth where people can place money for a donation. In the future, plans are to have the bison cutout, “speak,” whenever money is put into the receptacle’s mouth.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A U.S. Supreme Court decision that states can force online shoppers to pay sales tax is being hailed by North Dakota officials as a victory for local businesses.
The ruling in a South Dakota case overturns a 1992 decision, Quill v. North Dakota, that said companies can’t be forced to collect sales tax from customers in a state where they don’t have a physical presence.
North Dakota’s tax department estimates the state has been losing out on $50 million a year.
Tax Commissioner Ryan Rauschenberger (RAW’-shuhn-bur-gur) says his office will be working “over the next few weeks” to implement the law change.
Remote sellers will be required to collect and remit sales tax to North Dakota if they make a minimum of either 200 sales or $100,000 in sales per year in the state.
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The economy should continue growing slowly in rural parts of 10 Plains and Western states, but the most recent survey of bankers in the area doesn’t reflect all the recent tough trade talk.
Creighton University economist Ernie Goss says farmers are concerned that new tariffs could hurt exports at a time when their profits appeared lean, at best.
The overall index for rural parts of the region slipped to 56.1 in June from May’s 56.3, but it remained in positive territory over 50.
Any score above 50 suggests a growing economy in the months ahead, while a score below 50 indicates a shrinking economy.
Bankers from Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming were surveyed.

A female passenger in the minivan was killed. She wasn’t immediately identified. The two other people in the minivan suffered undisclosed injuries. No one in the other two vehicles was hurt

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — A Minot woman serving life in prison without parole for helping with the murder of her husband’s ex-wife is appealing to the North Dakota Supreme Court.
Authorities said 27-year-old Cynthia Wilder helped clean blood evidence from a car after Richie Wilder Jr. killed his ex-wife, Angila Wilder, in November 2015. Richie Wilder was convicted of murder and sentenced last year to life in prison.
Cynthia Wilder also was accused of trying to help Richie Wilder in an aborted escape attempt from the Ward County Jail.
She entered an Alford plea last November, acknowledging there was enough evidence to convict her. The court treats it like a guilty plea. She was sentenced in May.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — New technology will soon be taking internal readings of 15 small pipelines across the western part of North Dakota.
The Piper is the size of a golf ball and filled with acoustic sensors. The small sphere will be inserted at one end of an underground pipeline and flow along with whatever liquid is being carried, checking for clogs and leaks, the Bismarck Tribune reported .
A startup called Ingu Solutions developed Pipers as part of the Intelligent Pipeline Integrity Program (iPIPE), a research and development grant matching project by the North Dakota Industrial Commission. The three-year program is focused on advancing new pipeline leak detection and prevention technologies.
The iPIPE consortium was formed in response to Gov. Doug Burgum’s challenge to have zero oil and gas industry pipeline leaks, said Brian Kalk, development director for the University of North Dakota Energy and Environmental Research Center’s energy system.

NEW YORK (AP) — Deandre Ayton is the latest key component to the Phoenix Suns’ rebuilding process.
The Suns have made the University of Arizona center the first player taken in tonight’s NBA draft. Ayton averaged 20.1 points and 11.6 rebounds in his lone season in Tucson, tying for the national lead with 24 double-doubles in 35 games.
Ayton joins Michael Thompson as the only players from the Bahamas to be the No. 1 pick in the draft.
The Kings followed by taking Duke’s Marvin Bagley III at No. 2. The 6-foot-11 forward was the AP’s Player of the Year after averaging 21 points and 11.1 rebounds while shooting better than 60 percent for the Blue Devils last season.
Luka Doncic of Slovenia went third to the Hawks and was quickly traded to the Mavericks for point guard Trae Young, the fifth pick in the draft. Doncic won Euroleague MVP and Final Four MVP honors while helping Spain’s Real Madrid win its league championship. Young led the nation with his averages of 27.4 points and 8.7 assists for the Sooners.
The Memphis Grizzlies used the No. 4 pick to select forward Jaren Jackson Jr. of Michigan State. Jackson is a one-and-done power forward who averaged 10.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game.
The Magic picked up Texas center Mohammed Bamba with the No. 6 choice. Another Duke player went with the No. 7 choice as the Bulls took Wendell Carter Jr.
Alabama’s Collin Sexton went eighth to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Knicks used the ninth overall selection to get Kentucky forward Kevin Knox. Knox and Sexton shared SEC Freshman of the Year honors.
Mikal Bridges thought he was staying in Philadelphia after being selected with the 10th pick, but the 76ers sent the former Villanova standout to the Suns for Zhaire Smith and an unprotected first-round choice in 2021.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Timberwolves could have used their draft picks in deals to help clear space under the salary cap for potential free agent additions next month.
They needed some high-ceiling young players just as much.
Opting against any deals, the Timberwolves selected Georgia Tech guard Josh Okogie with the 20th overall pick in the first round of the NBA Draft on Thursday night, targeting a tough-minded player with defensive versatility as a primary asset.
“Nothing presented itself that would be better than actually selecting at 20,” general manager Scott Layden said.
The same went for the 48th overall choice, when Ohio State forward Keita Bates-Diop was still available in the second round. The Big Ten Player of the Year was widely projected as a late first-round pick.
“Having a pick this year was critical for us, just to continue to grow,” coach Tom Thibodeau said. “We think we have to have a blend, of young players, players that are in the middle and obviously the older veterans. But having those young guys, it’s important for the team, for the growth of the organization.”
