Mandan  (Sen. Heitkamp’s Office)   U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp, a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, will tour North Dakota with a series of discussions in Mandan, Minot, Carrington, and Wahpeton on the recently passed bipartisan Senate Farm Bill that include many wins for North Dakota that Heitkamp fought for. They will also discuss how the administration’s trade policies impact farmers and ranchers.

Heitkamp will also receive the 2018 Champion of Health Care Innovation Award from the American Life Sciences Council while in Bismarck for her work to make healthcare work better for North Dakotans.

Heitkamp has long said the Farm Bill is her top priority in the U.S. Senate. Since helping to write, negotiate, and pass the 2014 Farm Bill, Heitkamp immediately got to work on the next Farm Bill. She has spent years talking with North Dakota farmers and ranchers about their priorities to prepare for the next Farm Bill, including holding Farm Bill tours across the state in 2016 and 2017. In recent weeks, Heitkamp has discussed Farm Bill priorities with farmers and ranchers in Kindred, Grand Forks, Richardton, and Dickinson. As a result of all these meetings, she was able to include many wins in the bipartisan 2018 Farm Bill which the Senate passed on June 28. The Senate Agriculture Committee – which Heitkamp sits on – passed the Farm Bill earlier this month with overwhelming bipartisan support. Now, the Senate and House need to reach an agreement on their Farm Bills before the September 30 deadline.
