William Pete Erwin, 70, Jamestown, ND passed away peacefully in the early morning on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at his home.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.

Pete was born November 5, 1947 in Baltimore, MD to Ruby Merenda and Walter Erwin where he was raised and educated.

Pete relocated to North Dakota approximately 15 years ago, left briefly twice, but always returned “home” to Jamestown. Although quite quiet personally, he loved socializing and was often on a first name basis with all he met. He loved visiting with employees in all the places he frequented, knew about their families and was greeted with a “hi, Pete” everywhere he went. When he developed a heart problem about 15 years ago, he was forced to retire, but didn’t give up his interest in people. His picnic table was usually full from early spring until mid-fall, where the coffee was hot and the conversation lively. He had a real talent with dogs with special needs, whether physical or emotional and many called him a “dog whisperer.”

There are many people that he felt special connection with, too many to mention, but I would be remiss in not mentioning a very special 93 year-old lady who took him into her heart (as she did many others) and mad him one of her family. Thank you, June Lende. Pete’s sister requested that I add my name to the list which I’m proud to do.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents and all siblings except his beloved sister, Shirley and her children, Linda Kayler, Shirley Williamson, Tina Tosena, and William Wise.

Pete had a “bad heart”, but it was so big and loving, his kindness and sensitivity gained the respect of all who really knew him.

There will be a memorial service for Pete the last week in August at Eddy Funeral Home. Details are still being worked out. Times will be published in the Jamestown Sun when set.
