Jamestown   (CSi)  Jamestown Police Department will begin the Jamestown Citizen’s Police Academy, starting October 8.

Assistant Police Chief Major Justin Blinsky told the City Council’s Police Committee, in July, that the Academy  is not a sanctioned training program, to become a police officer, but rather is geared as a recruitment tool, and for police public education.

The program will run 10 weeks, once a week, for three hours 6-p.m., to 9-p.m. each evening, for those 18 and older.

Applications are now available through the Jamestown Police Department, until September 14.

Throughout the 10-week course, individuals participants will learn different topics.

Some of those topics include:

-Firearms
-Traffic Stops
-Pursuits
-DUI
-Criminal Investigations
-SWAT
-Use of Force
-Taser
-Equipment Tours and other areas of law enforcement.

Participants will be encouraged to continue working towards becoming involved with law enforcement.
