The opening of the Jamestown store is the 3rd location in North Dakota. The nearest locations are currently in Fargo and Bismarck. TJ Maxx will provide a much needed department store to the area’s residents. Known as “The Buffalo City,” Jamestown and the Buffalo Mall are located just off I-94, the main east-west highway corridor. Jamestown is centrally located, approximately 100 miles east of the state capital Bismarck, and 100 miles west of Fargo.

The TJX Companies, Inc., is the leading off-price apparel and home fashions retailer in the U.S., and worldwide, is ranked 85 among Fortune 500 companies. It operates four major divisions: Marmaxx, HomeGoods, TJX Canada, and TJX International. As of February 3, 2018, TJX sales were $35.9 billion, and the company operated more than 4,000 stores in nine countries, across three continents.

This new 20,000 sf store will provide men, women, and children’s apparel, jewelry, luxury bath and body products, shoes, modern home furnishings, and specialty food and beverage items. TJ Maxx is anticipated to open fall 2018.

Valley City  (WDAY) —The family of an elderly Valley City man who died recently at a Fargo hospital, one week after being detained and jailed for DUI, has consulted an attorney to look into circumstances of his arrest and incarceration.

WDAY reports that 72 year old Warren Lindvold, was arrested in the early morning hours of July 15, after a Valley City police officer saw his vehicle drifting back and forth and twice hitting a curb.

According to the police report, Lindvold also left the initial traffic stop, before the officer was able to pull him over a second time.

Lindvold was taken to the Valley City Police Department, Barnes County Jail, to CHI Mercy Hospital in Valley City, then back to jail.

At some point after, he was taken back to the hospital, then to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, where he died July 21.

When contacted by The Forum, Lindvold’s only sibling, LuAnn Janssen of Boulder, Colo., didn’t want to say much about her brother’s death.

Her husband Don Janssen said Lindvold’s death is “under investigation” and that he’d spoken with a Fargo attorney about it.

Jamestown  (JRMC)   — Jamestown Regional Medical Center’s annual GOLF “fore” ANGELS event is still in need of volunteers and silent auction item donations.

For the first time in the event’s three-year history, the golf roster is full.

“This community is amazing. I’m grateful for the support,” said Dr. Mandy Sorlie, family practitioner at Sanford Health Jamestown. GOLF “fore” ANGELS is the brainchild of Dr. Sorlie, her husband, Dave, and their three children.

“Now that we are full of teams, we humbly ask the community for help. We looking for volunteers to help set up, tear down and register golfers that day. We also seek silent auction item donations. That help makes a big difference.”

The 9-hole tournament benefits infant bereavement care at JRMC.

Every year, families experience the loss of an infant due to an unexpected circumstance. ANGELS helps pay medical bills for those parents through the JRMC Foundation. The fund is available to anyone who experiences infant loss at JRMC at the gestation of 16 weeks or greater up to 4 months of age due to unavoidable circumstances.

In 2017, the tournament raised about $9,000.

ANGELS stands for Advocating for Neonatal Grief and Early Loss Support (ANGELS). ANGELS grant amounts and recipients are determined by the availability of funds. The grant covers the labor and delivery charges after insurance payments. On average, families that have insurance would otherwise have to pay more than $1,500 for these medical services. ANGELS removes this financial burden and helps families grieve. Since it started three years ago, the Dr. Mandy and Dave Sorlie ANGELS fund has helped 10 families.

GOLF “fore” ANGELS registration opens at 9 a.m., shotgun starts at 10 a.m. A luncheon is set for 1 p.m. with silent auction and awards to follow. The public is welcome to the luncheon. Cost is $15 per person.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says he warned the Legislature for years that it was wrong to delegate legislative spending authority to a small panel of lawmakers.

North Dakota’s Supreme Court on Monday agreed with Stenehjem and found lawmakers ceded too much power to the so-called Budget Section.

The court’s opinion followed a lawsuit filed by the Legislature against Gov. Doug Burgum that also alleged he violated his line-item veto power last year by deleting words or phrases on spending bills in a way that changed intent.

Democratic Senate Minority Leader Joan Heckaman agreed that that the Budget Section probably has “creeped out of its boundaries” in the past.

Republican House Majority Leader Al Carlson says he is sponsoring legislation that will clarify the role of the Budget Section.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota’s Game and Fish Department is more than doubling the number of pronghorn hunting licenses this year.

The agency will make 1,075 licenses available for the fall hunt in 10 units, up from 410 licenses in five units last year.

Big game management supervisor Bruce Stillings says an aerial survey indicated the pronghorn population is up 57 percent from 2017.

A string of harsh winters that decimated the pronghorn population led to hunting being banned from 2010 through 2013 to allow the animals to recover. Stillings says no hunting, recent milder winters, and better fawn production and survival since 2013 have bolstered the population.

Game and Fish is accepting license applications through Aug. 8. This year’s bow season is Aug. 31-Sept. 23. The gun season is Oct. 5-21.
