The Bismarck Tribune reports Charles Kenneth Hale Jr. is charged with felonious restraint and terrorizing and other charges after police were called to the home Wednesday night.

Court records say Hale prevented the woman from leaving the residence by holding her down, causing visible bruises. The woman told police Hale threatened to burn the house down with her inside and said, if she left, he would have people track her down.

Hale did not have an attorney listed in court records. He was being held in a Bismarck jail.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The tourist town of Medora is at odds with the State Historical Society over a hole in a wall.

The society in April had a small entrance cut in a sandstone wall surrounding a public park in downtown Medora dedicated to French nobleman Marquis de Mores.

Civilian Conservation Corps workers built the wall during the Great Depression with locally mined stone. The second entrance was cut at the request of the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation. The foundation and society say it benefits the town.

But the town says the state violated city zoning rules. And dozens of residents think the project damages the park’s historical integrity. They want the wall restored, and the city is contemplating suing.

The society says it’s surprised by the uproar and has no plans to restore the wall.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — More than 300 Basin Electric Power Cooperative employees are taking buyouts as the North Dakota-based utility tries to cut costs amid a plummeting financial outlook.

Spokesman Curt Pearson tells The Bismarck Tribune that Basin’s latest financial forecast predicts a decade of losses at subsidiary Dakota Gasification Co., which operates the Great Plains Synfuels Plant near Beulah.

Dakota Gasification has endured several years of losses as it struggles to compete with cheap natural gas made available by hydraulic fracturing in the Bakken oil field.

Utility rate increases have helped keep the co-op financially afloat, but Pearson says that isn’t expected to last.

The majority of co-op employees taking buyouts are from North Dakota. Some are from South Dakota and Wyoming.

Laudenschlager says she took up the job because of her personal interest in quilting. She says that over the past 20 years she’s come to appreciate that “the talent in this state is unreal.”

Laudenschlager says that despite the overall number of exhibits having declined, she still sees new exhibitors each year.

Merry Green will take over superintendent duties.
