Jamestown  (JRMC)  — A child who dies in the womb knows only its parents love. He knows no pain.

Those were the words of the Rev. Jeffrey Wald, St. James Basilica, at Jamestown Regional Medical Center’s GOLF “fore” ANGELS event on Aug. 4.

He says, “We will always be a parent to that child – whether in our arms or in our hearts as angels in heaven.”

The 9-hole ANGELS tournament benefits infant bereavement care at JRMC.

Every year, families experience the loss of an infant due to an unexpected circumstance. The Dr. Mandy and Dave Sorlie ANGELS fund helps pay medical bills for those parents through the JRMC Foundation. The fund is available to anyone who experiences infant loss at JRMC at the gestation of 16 weeks or greater up to 4 months of age due to unavoidable circumstances.

ANGELS stands for Advocating for Neonatal Grief and Early Loss Support (ANGELS). ANGELS grant amounts and recipients are determined by the availability of funds. The grant covers the labor and delivery charges after insurance payments. On average, families that have insurance would otherwise have to pay more than $1,500 for these medical services. ANGELS removes this financial burden and helps families grieve.

Since it started three years ago, ANGELS has helped 10 families.

JRMC Foundation Director Lisa Jackson, says, “It is a wonderful feeling to be surrounded by people who care so deeply about others who experience the loss of a child.  GOLF ‘fore’ ANGELS support is in remembrance of our angels.”

In 2017, the tournament raised about $9,000. This year, the tournament raised $12,700 thanks to the support of more than 20 teams – the biggest in the ANGELS event history.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A 38-year-old woman is accused of setting a fire at a downtown Minneapolis store that caused more than $500,000 in damage.

Lewonda Jones, of Brooklyn Center, was charged last week in Hennepin County with two counts of arson. Jones was found in Fargo, North Dakota, and is being held in the Cass County jail pending her return to Minnesota.

A clothing rack at the Marshalls store on Nicollet Mall was set ablaze on July 15. The fire closed the outlet for nearly four weeks.

Police say an employee discovered the fire and put it out. No one was hurt.

According to the charges, in-store video surveillance showed Jones taking a long grill lighter from a pocket to ignite the blaze.

The Star Tribune reports the charges don’t list a motive.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Nine North Dakota communities have been trying out new ideas in street design as part of a public transportation initiative.

The Minot Daily News reports that ND Moves aims to develop a statewide transportation plan that includes pedestrians, bikers and public transit. The group held an open house to present the latest data and project status, including information about demonstration projects that began in early July.

The demonstration projects last about six weeks and are situated in Bottineau, Bismarck, Grafton, Grand Forks, Hazen, Horace, Mandan, Rugby and Williston. Transportation Department project manager Steve Mullen says the demonstrations focus on improving safety, particularly in ways that encourage active, non-motorized transportation like walking and biking.

Mullen estimates a draft plan should be completed within five months.

BUFFALO, S.D. (AP) — The company planning the Keystone XL oil pipeline is moving to condemn private land in northwestern South Dakota’s Harding County.

The Rapid City Journal reports TransCanada Corp. has filed eminent domain condemnation petitions in state court against parcels of land owned by two families.

At least one of them plans to fight. Jeffrey Jensen says he’ll take the matter to court if necessary.

The $8 billion, 1,179-mile (1,897-kilometer) pipeline would deliver oil from Canada to Texas Gulf Coast refineries. It still faces several hurdles along with intense resistance from environmental groups and Native American tribes.

South Dakota’s Supreme Court in June dismissed an appeal from pipeline opponents including the Cheyenne River Sioux of a judge’s decision last year upholding regulators’ approval for the pipeline to cross the state.

The Good Samaritan Society has 200 locations in 24 states. Sanford bills itself as one of the largest health systems in the nation, with 44 hospitals and nearly 300 clinics in nine states and four countries. The two nonprofits together employ about 47,000 workers nationwide.
