Jamestown (CSi) BNSF reported on Friday afternoon, that replacement of the pedestrian maze at the east side of the First Avenue railroad crossing has been completed.
BNSF Director of Public Affairs, Amy McBeth in an E-mail, confirmed on Friday the that the sounding of the train horns would stop as trains approach Jamestown crossings as locomotive engineers have been informed.
The maze was damaged on June 25 when the structure was struck in a traffic crash at the crossing, near the intersection of First Avenue South and First Street, which meant for safety reasons, the train horns were allowed to sound through Downtown Jamestown.
Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Fire Department was called to the 1606 16th Street Southwest about 9:25 -a.m., Friday.

Jamestown (CSi) The Stutsman County Treasurer’s Office has mailed a “Notice of Estimated Property Tax and Budget Hearing Dates” for properties located in Stutsman County. This is not a bill; please do not pay these estimated notices.
Per North Dakota Century Code, the county treasurer is required to send a preliminary tax notice by August 31st to the owner of each parcel of taxable property with a total estimated tax of at least one hundred dollars ($100.00). This notice also includes the budget hearing dates, times and locations for your local taxing jurisdictions.
This combined notice replaces individual notices that were previously sent by counties, cities, park and school districts. It also provides important information on how your taxes may change based on preliminary budgets submitted by local taxing districts. Property valuation information is included in the notice; however, values cannot be addressed at the public budget hearings listed.
For more information about the estimated notices, you may call the Stutsman County Treasurer’s Office at 701-252-9036 or the Stutsman County Auditor’s Office at 701-252-9035. Update…
MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Trial has been rescheduled for a Minot man accused of robbing a grocery store and burglarizing an apartment, where he allegedly pistol-whipped a woman and shot and paralyzed a man.
Javontez Barnes is charged with attempted murder, robbery, aggravated assault and burglary in the January 2017 case. He also faces reckless endangerment charges for a separate incident that month in which he allegedly fired four shots into an occupied apartment building.
The Minot Daily News reports Barnes was to stand trial last month, but it was continued. A two-week trial is now set to begin Sept. 17. He would face up to 65 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
Co-defendant Randolph Garbutt pleaded guilty earlier to robbery and is serving a six-year sentence. He’s agreed to testify against Barnes.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota judge has dismissed felony charges against a father and son arrested in February after 210 pounds of marijuana was seized from their pickup.
The Bismarck Tribune reports Christopher Conkey and Robert Smith were charged after a Feb. 4 traffic stop west of Mandan on Interstate 94. Conkey is from Oregon and Smith is from Washington state.
Attorneys for Conkey and Smith filed motions to suppress evidence seized during the stop, arguing that a Morton County deputy did not have reasonable suspicion to search their pickup during a traffic stop.
South Central District Judge Bruce Romanick sided with the defendants last week
Authorities say marijuana and other items seized will be disposed.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The Three Affiliated Tribes is opening a $24.8 million drug treatment center in Bismarck.
The Good Road Recovery Center will be an inpatient drug and alcohol treatment and recovery center for enrolled tribal members.
Work on the facility began in December 2016. The Minot Daily News reports that a grand opening ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The 20,000-square-foot treatment center sits on 11 acres and has five buildings, including male and female resident cottages with eight beds in each.
The center is designed for future expansion, with an additional 11 acres for development including transitional housing.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed more than a year of additional study of the Dakota Access oil pipeline, saying the work substantiated its earlier determination that the pipeline poses no significant environmental threats.
U.S. District Judge James Boasberg in June 2017 ruled that the Corps “largely complied” with environmental law when permitting the Energy Transfers Partners pipeline.
However, the judge ordered more study because he said the agency didn’t adequately consider how an oil spill under the Missouri River might affect the Standing Rock Sioux tribe’s fishing and hunting rights, or whether it might disproportionately affect the tribal community.
The corps said in its filing Friday that the chance of an oil spill is low and that minority and low-income populations are not at greater risk.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota wildlife officials are trying to boost the walleye population in new, smaller lakes that have popped up around the state during recent wet decades.
Game and Fish Department crews this summer stocked nearly 10 million walleye fingerlings in more than 140 bodies of water across the state. More than 8 million of them went into smaller lakes, due in part to the fact that the large Lake Sakakawea reservoir on the Missouri River doesn’t currently need many.
“When Sakakawea is at normal or higher lake levels like the last several years, it typically does very well on its own naturally,” said Jerry Weigel, the department’s fisheries production and development supervisor.
But there are more than 50 new lakes in North Dakota in which the walleye population is still getting established.

Judge swings from tee
UNDATED (AP) — Yankees slugger Aaron Judge took his first swings off a tee since breaking his right wrist July 26.
The reigning AL Rookie of the Year took 25 dry swings in Oakland’s center-field cage before taking another 25 off the tee at what he called 100 percent effort. He said he felt good enough in recent days that the decision was made he would begin hitting again.
Judge and the Yanks are hoping he can be activated in a couple of weeks.
