PINGREE, N.D. (AP) — Fire has destroyed the historic community center in Pingree.
Authorities say the building that burned Sunday evening was nearly 90 years old and at one time had been used as a school gymnasium before it became the community center.
KFGO reports resident Troy Thomas had been in the building before it caught fire and thought he could smell smoke when he turned on the lights.
Pingree is about 20 miles northwest of Jamestown.
Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Police Chief Scott Edinger says, the suspect in the SuperPumper armed robbery, Travis James Allcock is in custody.
He was taken into custody in Clay County Minnesota Friday morning.
In the news release, the Chief thanks everyone who contacted law enforcement with information over the last few days, and to all of the area law enforcement agencies that assisted with the investigation.
Jamestown (CSi) Am underground fault, in Northeast Jamestown was the cause of an early morning power outage in Jamestown, on Friday.
Otter Tail Power reports the outage occurred between 2:30-a.m., and 4:30-a.m., and affected around 400 customers including the University of Jamestown.
Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Police report the driver of a car that went front end first into a street construction hole on Wednesday September 5th was not injured.
The incident happened at First Avenue North, and Thirteenth Street.
The report says 62 year old Dale Quenzer, was operating a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu northbound on the 1200 block of First Avenue North.
He attempted to turn left onto Thirteenth Street Northwest when the car wen into the construction pit.
At the time of the incident, workers with Scherbenske Inc. were pulling equipment out of the hole, temporarily removing barricades.
Quenzer told police that he failed to see the hole after going around various construction trailers on First Avenue.
The report says no signal person was at the site, to point out that area of the road was closed.
Quenzer was wearing a seat belt, and was able to get out of the car, not being hurt.
Minor damage was sustained to the auto’s undercarriage, which was towed from the scene
The report indicated no citations issued.
Bismarck (CSi) Jamestown will be the site of the North Dakota Retired Teachers Association state convention Sept. 11-12.
The event hosted by the Stutsman County Area Retired Teachers Association, will be held at the Gladstone Inn & Suites.
Speakers slated include Jamestown Public Schools Superintendent, Robert Lech, and a representative of the North Dakota Teachers Fund for Retirement.
Retired teachers interested in attending the convention or becoming a member of the Stutsman County Association can contact Art Mitzel at 252-4229.
Jamestown From (Deb Lee) Tuesday 9-11-2018 the Jamestown Freedom Walk starts at 6-p.m., from Zonta Park, ending at the All Vet’s Club.
This is a day to honor first responders and fellow Americans who lost their lives on 9-11-2001 and to remember those who have since perished in the global war on terrorism.
Lynn Tally of Mary’s Place will have a program following the walk. BBQs, chips and bars will be available with a free will donation for Mary’s Place.
RSVP volunteers will be helping pour coffee and water and whatever needs to be done.
September is also Hunger Action Month and Freedom walkers are encouraged to bring a canned food item to Zonta Park. Donation will be given to local food pantries.
Jamestown (JRMC) — Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) recently made the Prairie Business “50 Best Places to Work” list. The list highlights organizations in the northern plains that provide their employees with great benefits, workplace culture and employee morale, among other factors.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Grand Forks police say the death of a 5-month-old girl has been ruled a homicide.
KFGO radio reports 18-year-old Mason Kamrowski was arrested Friday and charged with murder in the death of Brynley Rymer.
The infant died May 22 at a Fargo hospital, a day after she was brought to a Grand Forks hospital by a caretaker.
Kamrowski is being held in the Grand Forks County jail. Court records do not list an attorney for him.
Police say the investigation remains open.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A Rhode Island woman accused of funneling lottery scam money between the U.S. and Jamaica through her airline job goes on trial in federal court in North Dakota this week. She is the last of 27 defendants in the case that began seven years ago this month. Here’s a look at the case and the upcoming trial of Melinda Bulgin, which is expected to last up to 10 days.
The Federal Trade Commission estimates that lottery scams could be a billion-dollar-a-year industry in Jamaica. This is believed to be the first large-scale Jamaican lottery scam tried in U.S. courts, and it will create a template for future investigations, Assistant U.S. Attorney Clare Hochhalter said.
The U.S. attorney’s office expects many more investigations in both the U.S. and Jamaica, though Hochhalter believes it will take a combined effort of governments, citizens and law officers to put a serious dent in the Jamaican lottery scam industry.
MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — Police say a 17-year-old boy is suspected of stabbing two people in Mandan.
Mandan police say a 25-year-old female and a 27-year-old male were injured in the incident early Friday morning. Police say they were taken to a Bismarck hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Bismarck Tribune reports the teen suspect faces two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was being held at the Youth Correctional Center in Mandan.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) — A judge has denied a new trial for a Minot man convicted of murder in the fatal stabbing of his ex-girlfriend last year.
A jury in May convicted 28-year-old Bradley Morales in the August 2017 death of 25-year-old Sharmaine Leake after an apparent domestic dispute. He faces life in prison when he’s sentenced Sept. 28.
Morales objected to a presentence investigation and requested a new trial. The Minot Daily News reports that Judge Doug Mattson declined, saying there was sufficient evidence to convict Morales of murder.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Events are being planned across North Dakota as the centennial of the end of World War I approaches.
Bismarck’s Darrell Dorgan is heading up the committee spearheading the effort. He tells the Minot Daily News that the group is asking communities across the state to get involved, and to inform the committee of events already planned so they can be included on a website .
A list of those who died during the war also is to be included on the site.
The committee also is asking county veterans services officers and local veterans organizations to read the names of the more than 1,300 North Dakotans who died. The committee has requested the names be read aloud from the steps of county courthouses or other public places on Nov. 11.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota geologists are attempting to locate local sources of sand to be used for hydraulic fracturing as the oil industry demand grows.
The Bismarck Tribune reports that the North Dakota Geological Survey is collecting sandstone samples from Billings and McKenzie counties.
The agency had already collected samples in other areas and authored a 2011 study that found the state’s sand sources are lower in quality than other U.S. sources. This second phase of research comes as demand for sand increases and companies experiment with lower-cost options.
Geologist Fred Anderson says surveyors are testing to determine whether North Dakota’s sand resource is an option.
North Dakota Petroleum Council President Ron Ness says operators want to find a local sand source to save on transportation costs instead of importing by rail.

BILLINGS, Mont. (uj.edu)— The Rocky Mountain (Mont.) College men’s soccer team lived up to its No. 10 ranking, scoring five times in a 5-0 win over the University of Jamestown Sunday afternoon.
Nolan Sherwood (3rd minute) and Milo Downey (34th) had RMC’s goals in the first half. Mason Luse (51st), Alexander Taylor (56th), and Adrian Lopez (78th) all scored in the second half.
Shots were 23-4 in favor of Rocky, as were shots on goal (17-2).
Ben Prochniak (SR/West Fargo, N.D.) and Trevor Walswick (JR/Savage, Minn.) had the shots on goal for Jamestown (1-2-1).
Jake Askew (JR/Rotherham, England) had seven saves for UJ. Alex Hamer (FR/Birmingham, England) played the final 26:09 and had five saves.
The Jimmies play at No. 16 Bellevue (Neb.) next Saturday.
Steelers running back James Connor ran for 135 yards and scored two touchdowns in place of Le’Veon (LEH’-vee-ahn) Bell, who continues his holdout.
Ben Roethlisberger (RAWTH’-lihs-bur-gur) threw three interceptions in the first half and finished 23 of 41 for 335 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to Antonio Brown.
It was the NFL’s first season-opening tie with 1971.
— Luke Kuechly (KEEK’-lee) had 13 tackles and Kawann Short sacked Dak Prescott twice as the Panthers’ defense dominated in a 16-8 victory against the Cowboys. Carolina’s defense had six sacks and limited the Cowboys to 232 yards. Cam Newton ran for 58 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers, who iced the victory on Mario Addison’s strip-sack of Prescott with 1:23 remaining.
— Jakeem Grant scored on a tiebreaking 102-yard kickoff return with 14 minutes to go and the Dolphins overcame two weather delays to win the longest game since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger, 27-20 over the Titans. Lightning delays lasted a total of 3 hours, 59 minutes, and the game took 7 hours, 10 minutes to play. Tennessee had a chance to tie it until Reshad Jones picked off Blaine Gabbert and returned it 54 yards.
— The Giants were 20-15 losers to the Jaguars despite Saquon (SAY’-kwahn) Barkley, who ran 68 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown and finished with 106 yards on 18 carries in his NFL debut. Myles Jack scored on a 32-yard interception return early in the fourth quarter to give Jacksonville a 20-9 lead before Barkley’s TD. Blake Bortles threw for 176 yards and a touchdown for the Jags, who finished the game without Leonard Fournette because of a hamstring injury suffered in the second quarter.
— Tom Brady threw for 277 yards and three touchdowns as the Patriots opened with a 27-20 victory over Houston. Rob Gronkowski grabbed a 21-yard scoring strike from Brady and finished with seven receptions for 123 yards. DeShaun Watson was 17 of 34 for 176 yards, one touchdown and an interception in his return from a major knee injury.
— Ryan Fitzpatrick highlighted his four-touchdown performance with two scoring strikes of more than 50 yards in the Buccaneers’ 48-40 stunner at New Orleans. Mike Evans caught seven passes for 147 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown. DeSean Jackson caught scoring passes of 58 and 36 yards to highlight his 146-yard day before going out with a concussion.
— Tyreek Hill scored three touchdowns and Patrick Mahomes (mah-HOHMZ’) passed for his first four NFL scores in the Chiefs’ 38-28 verdict over the Chargers. Hill had a 91-yard punt return for a score and a 58-yard TD reception during the first quarter before adding a 1-yard TD grab in the fourth quarter. Mahomes was 15 of 27 for 256 yards in the Chiefs’ ninth straight win over the Chargers.
— Clayton Fejedelem scored on an 83-yard fumble return with 24 seconds to go to seal the Bengals’ 34-23 victory at Indianapolis. Andy Dalton rallied Cincinnati with three scores in the final 19 minutes of the team’s first win in its last nine visits to Indianapolis. Andrew Luck was 39 of 53 for two touchdowns and one interception in his first start in more than 20 months.
— Joe Flacco threw for three touchdowns and was 25 of 34 for 236 yards before being replaced in the third quarter of the Ravens’ 47-3 pounding of the Bills. The Ravens held Buffalo to 33 yards and no first downs in going up 26-0 at the half. Buffalo’s Nathan Peterman went 5 for 18 for 24 yards and two interceptions for a quarterback rating of 0.0.
— Redskins newcomers Alex Smith and Adrian Peterson had productive afternoons in a 24-6 downing of the Cardinals. Smith completed 21 of 30 passes without an interception and had TD throws of 13 yards to Chris Thompson and four yards to Jordan Reed. Peterson rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown and had a 52-yard reception before fumbling at the end of the play.
ATP-US OPEN-MEN’S FINAL
NEW YORK (AP) — Novak Djokovic has earned his 14th Grand Slam title and second in a row by getting through a key 20-minute game to beat 2009 champion Juan Martin del Potro (wahn mahr-TEEN’ dehl-POH’-troh), 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 in the U.S. Open men’s final.
Djokovic appeared on the ropes after dropping three straight games in the second set to fall behind 4-3. But when he faced three consecutive break points in the following game and won an epic that required 22 points to settle.
The 31-year-old Serb is now even with Pete Sampras for the third-most major trophies for a man in tennis history, trailing only Roger Federer’s 20 and Rafael Nadal’s 17.
Also at the U.S. Open, Serena Williams has been fined a total of $17,000 for three code violations during Saturday’s women’s final. The tournament referee’s office docked Williams $10,000 for “verbal abuse” of chair umpire Carlos Ramos, $4,000 for being warned for coaching, and $3,000 for breaking her racket.

UNDATED (AP) — — The Twins pulled out a 3-1 win over the Royals on a two-out, two-run homer by Willians Astudillo in the bottom of the ninth.
The National League West race is a little tighter once again, while the Atlanta Braves have more breathing room in the NL East.
Los Angeles is within a half-game of West-leading Colorado after Justin Turner was 4-for-5 with a two-run homer and two runs scored in the Dodgers’ 9-6 win over the Rockies. Kike (KEE’-kay) Hernandez banged out his 20th home run and Chris Taylor added a two-run double to help the Dodgers gain a split of the four-game series.
Charlie Blackmon homered twice and Nolan Arenado (ar-eh-NAH’-doh) hit a two-run shot for the Rockies, whose lead in the NL West is a half-game over Los Angeles.
The Braves moved 4 ½ games ahead of Philadelphia and kept the Diamondbacks 2 ½ games behind the Rockies. Ender Inciarte (ihn-see-AHR’-tay), Lucas Duda (DOO’-dah) and Johan Camargo homered while the Braves were scoring six times in the ninth inning to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 9-5 win at Arizona. Inciarte put Atlanta ahead with a three-run blast before Duda and Carmargo added insurance runs.
Ronald Acuna (ah-KOON’-yuh) Jr. smacked a two-run shot and scored three times for the Braves.
The Phillies lost ground to Atlanta by dropping the rubber match of their three-game set with the Mets, 6-4. Michael Conforto drove in four runs with an RBI single and a tiebreaking, three-run blast that chased losing pitcher Vince Velasquez in the fifth.
Philadelphia wasted Rhys Hoskins’ 30th home run and fell to 2-6 this month.
Checking out Sunday’s other major league action:
— The Brewers completed a three-game sweep as Jonathan Schoop (skohp) launched a go-ahead, grand slam in the sixth inning of a 6-3 victory against the Giants. Schoop had five RBIs for Milwaukee, which climbed within two games of the NL Central-leading Cubs.
— Chicago’s game in Washington was rained out and rescheduled for Thursday afternoon.
— The Cardinals are still a half-game ahead of the Dodgers for the second NL wild card after John Gant allowed two runs over 6 2/3s to lead St. Louis past Detroit, 5-2. The Redbirds didn’t have a baserunner until the sixth inning, but the game was scoreless until Kolten Wong delivered an RBI single in a five-run seventh.
— Justin Smoak and Teoscar (tay-AHS’-kur) Hernandez each slammed two-run homers and Smoak finished with three RBIs as the Blue Jays dumped the Indians, 6-2. Thomas Pannone allowed four hits over 6 1/3 innings against the AL Central leaders, including solo homers by Francisco Lindor (lihn-DOHR’) and Brandon Barnes.
— The Red Sox avoided a three-game sweep by beating the Astros, 6-5 on Mitch Moreland’s walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth. J.D. Martinez hit his 40th homer and drove in four for Boston, which snapped Houston’s seven-game winning streak even after the Astros rallied with a four-run sixth inning to tie the game, 5-5.
— Stephen Piscotty homered and the Athletics pulled within 2 ½ games of the AL West-leading Astros by rallying from an early three-run deficit to beat the Rangers 7-3. Matt Olson had two hits, including a double in a five-run fourth. Oakland is 30 games over .500 for the first time in five years and 2 1/2 games behind the Yankees for the first AL wild card.
— The Yankees were 3-2 losers at Seattle as Mitch Haniger scored the go-ahead run on a grounder in the eighth inning. Edwin Diaz pitched the ninth for his major league-leading 54th save, helped by Haniger’s diving catch in the ninth.
— The Rays picked up their 11th consecutive home win as Brandon Lowe smacked a three-run homer while Tampa Bay scored five in the first inning of an 8-3 romp over the Orioles. The Rays have won 16 of their last 19 overall and outscored the Orioles 32-10 in a three-game sweep.
— Andrew Heaney struck out a career-high 12 and tossed three-hit ball over seven innings as the Angels blanked the White Sox, 1-0.
— Eric Hosmer led off the ninth with a homer to lift the Padres past the Reds, 7-6.
— The Marlins and Pirates had their game in Pittsburgh canceled by rain.
WNBA…
SEATTLE (AP) — A lot of Breanna Stewart in the closing minutes and one big defensive stop in the final seconds has the Seattle Storm on the cusp of a third WNBA title.
Stewart scored nine of her 25 points in the fourth quarter, Sue Bird came up with a key defensive play in the final 10 seconds, and the Storm held off the Washington Mystics 75-73 on Sunday to take a 2-0 lead in the WNBA Finals.
A’ja Wilson was mobbed by her USA Basketball teammates after practice when they were told she was the WNBA Rookie of the Year.
She won in a landslide as the unanimous choice. Wilson received all 39 votes from a national media panel.
Anderson got up slowly after a 10-yard run on the final play of the first quarter Saturday against UCLA. This is the third season-ending injury of Anderson’s career.
Also in college football:
— Duke quarterback Daniel Jones is out indefinitely with a broken collarbone and all-ACC cornerback Mark Gilbert is done for the season with a hip injury. Jones threw for three touchdowns before breaking his left clavicle while taking a blindside hit during the third-quarter Blue Devils’ 21-7 victory at Northwestern on Saturday. Gilbert injured his left hip in the second quarter.
NASCAR-BRICKYARD
Brickyard 400 postponed to Monday
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Rain wiped out Sunday’s running of the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the final race of NASCAR’s regular season.
The race has been rescheduled for Monday afternoon. Pole-sitter Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick made up the front row as NASCAR used the drivers’ standings to determine the starting grid after Saturday’s qualifying was rained out.
PGA-BMW CHAMPIONSHIP
Rose waits through a day of rain at BMW Championship
NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. (AP) — The final round of the PGA’s BMW Championship has been pushed back to Monday due to rain.
Tour officials say they will wait until Monday to decide whether to try to complete 72 holes of the third FedEx Cup playoff event. If the forecast makes it unlikely to finish, the tour could cut the event to 54 holes.
Justin Rose has a one-shot lead over Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele (ZAN’-dur SHAWF’-lee). If officials deem the course unplayable Monday, Rose will get the Fedex playoff victory and climb to No. 1 in the world ranking.
