BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota has its first West Nile virus-related death of the year.

The Health Department says the victim was a man older than 60 who lived in the northwestern part of the state. He wasn’t named.

Symptoms of the mosquito-borne virus include fever, headache, body aches and rash. Most infected people don’t get sick, but the elderly and people with other health issues are more at risk.

There have been 148 confirmed West Nile cases in the state this year. Last year, there were 62 cases and two deaths.
