Jamestown (JRMC) — The dream is coming true, said Trisha Jungels. Construction for the Jamestown Regional Medical Center Cancer begins today.
JRMC’s Chief Nursing Officer and Interim Chief Executive Officer, Trisha Jungels, says oncology services were a dream of the Boards and the community when JRMC moved from downtown to southwest Jamestown in 2011.
The JRMC Operating Board made its decision to begin construction at its regular meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 26.
She adds, “This is a great day for Jamestown and the surrounding communities. Miles matter when you’re sick. We thank the community for helping us bring state-of-the-art cancer care close to home.”
JRMC announced its construction plans at the JRMC Cancer Center Mile Marker 256: a Private Debut on Thursday, Sept. 27.
Construction will include eight infusion rooms. Those rooms will serve more than 100 people a month, saving 160,000 miles of travel each year.
In Stutsman County, cancer is the leading cause of death for individuals ages 45-84.

The club endeavors to recruit hunters and fishermen who will one day become the stewards of wildlife and habitat. This is done through Youth Mentored Pheasants hunts each fall, sponsorships to conservation and fishing camps, firearm familiarization and conservation events, birdhouse building and sponsorship of hunter education classes.
They have also purchased archery equipment to support the archery program in the schools. The club has been active in providing winter food for wildlife during times of severe winter weather and enhancing pheasant populations by releasing spring laying hen pheasants, and fall roosters. The Club has installed numerous wood duck houses along the James River. We provide seed for growing winter wildlife food plots and provide land rent compensation to farmers in Stutsman County.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — A Minot man who was the target of a controlled drug buy has been sentenced for stealing from the drug task force that arranged it.
Court documents show that a confidential informant for the Ward County Narcotics Task Force arranged to buy drugs from 22-year-old Aaron Freeman, and Freeman took off with the $600 he was given.
The Minot Daily News reports Freeman recently pleaded guilty to theft- and drug-related charges and was sentenced to the 27 days he’d already served in jail. He’ll be on probation for two years.
Freeman also must pay restitution along with his get-away driver, who pleaded guilty in the case earlier to a conspiracy charge.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) — A Minot man convicted of murder in the fatal stabbing of his ex-girlfriend last year has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.
The Minot Daily News reports 28-year-old Bradley Morales was sentenced Friday.
A jury in May convicted Morales in the August 2017 death of 25-year-old Sharmaine Leake after an apparent domestic dispute. She died six days later when her family took her off life support.
Morales’s lawyer, Steven Mottinger, says the sentence will be appealed.
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — A 58-year-old North Dakota man is charged with killing his brother in northeastern Montana while officers were responding to the victim’s 911 call.
Valley County Sheriff Vernon Buerkle tells The Billings Gazette the victim asked officers to come to his house Thursday evening because he was concerned his brother was in the area.
Buerkle says the deputy responding to the residence about 2 miles (3 kilometers) south of Fort Peck encountered John Ersness, but had no probable cause to hold him.
When the deputy arrived at the residence, he found the 62-year-old man dead. His name and cause of death have not been released. An autopsy is planned.
Ersness was charged Friday with deliberate homicide. He did not enter a plea. He remained jailed Sunday on $500,000 bail.
Jailers declined to say if Ersness has an attorney.
BOTTINEAU, N.D. (AP) — Metigoshe Ministries is raising $5.4 million for an expansion project years in the planning.
The Lake Metigoshe retreat in northern North Dakota owned by 74 Lutheran churches broke ground in August for an addition at the facility’s Lakeside Christian Center, the Minot Daily News reported .
“For the past number of years, our retreat ministry has been steadily growing,” said the Rev. Jon Halvorson, the site’s executive director. “Especially for the large group spaces, we’ve run out of room.”
The site hosts church groups and youth groups throughout the year, and also holds various faith-building retreats. The facility at one point had to turn away more than 800 overnight guests because of a lack of space, Halvorson said.
A capital campaign has raised about $3.9 million in donations and pledges over the past three years for the expansion. Volunteer work also has saved the project about $150,000.
“We’ve had just incredibly strong, great support from individuals,” Halvorson said.
The addition will include six new sleeping rooms, bringing the total to 20, and two conference rooms, according to Halvorson. Metigoshe Ministries also plans to relocate its Faith Memorial Chapel into a centerpiece worship space at the new addition.
Work is to begin in earnest in the spring.

GOLF-RYDER-CUP
Dominant Europe team crushes US
SAINT-QUENTIN-EN-YVELINES, France (AP) — Europe’s Ryder Cup winning streak on home soil continues.
The Europeans beat the U.S. team 17½-10½ to take back the cup they lost at Hazeltine in 2016. That’s the most lopsided victory since consecutive 9-point wins by Europe in 2004 and 2006.
The Americans haven’t won a Ryder Cup match in Europe since 1993.
Alex Noren closed out Europe’s dominating win with a brilliant putt. The Swedish golfer rolled in a 40-foot birdie at the final hole to secure a 1-up victory over Bryson DeChambeau.
Sergio Garcia set a Ryder Cup record with his third victory at Le Golf National. Garcia’s 2-and-1 triumph Sunday over American Rickie Fowler gave the Spaniard 25.5 points in his career, surpassing Nick Faldo’s record of 25 points.
Tiger Woods lost all four of his matches. Phil Mickelson lost both of his.

Brad Keselowski was on track to win for the fourth time in five races until he misjudged the entry into the first turn on a restart with six laps remaining.
Jamie McMurray was second, followed by Clint Bowyer, Alex Bowman and pole-sitter Kurt Busch.
