The National Weather Service in Bismarck has issued a Wind
Advisory, which is in effect  to 7 PM CDT  Wednesday evening.

Includes the Jamestown and Valley City area.

* WINDS…Sustained winds around 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph.

* IMPACTS…Difficult travel for high profile vehicles. Working on
elevated surfaces will be hazardous.

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 30 mph are expected. Winds
this strong can make driving difficult…especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

.TONIGHT…Mostly clear. Colder. Lows in the mid 20s. Northwest

winds 5 to 15 mph. Gusts up to 35 mph in the evening.

.THURSDAY…Mostly sunny in the morning, then mostly cloudy with

rain in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 40s. South winds around

5 mph shifting to the southeast in the afternoon.

.THURSDAY NIGHT…Snow possibly mixed with rain in the evening,

then snow after midnight. Snow accumulation around 3 inches.  Chance of precipitation 90 percent.  Lows in the lower 30s. Southeast winds around 10 mph.

.FRIDAY…Cloudy. Chance of rain and snow in the morning, then

rain likely in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 40s. East winds

5 to 10 mph shifting to the north in the afternoon. Chance of

precipitation 70 percent in the Jamestown area, 80 percent in the Valley City area.

Areas of fog and drizzle may reduce visibility below one mile at

times Wednesday night through Friday morning.

Bismarck  (CSi)  A mix of rain and snow will develop Thursday afternoon across southern North Dakota, spreading northward Thursday night. The rain and snow mix should changeover to all snow Thursday night, over all but the far southern counties, where a mix of rain and snow will continue.

A period of freezing rain will also be possible across portions of the southwest Thursday night.

The wintry mix of rain and snow will continue, until finally

ending Friday afternoon and early evening.

Forecast snowfall totals could range from 2 to 5 inches in

northern North Dakota, mainly north of lake Sakakawea, and in

central North Dakota, east of Highway 83. Lesser amounts of snow

are expected along the South Dakota border, with less than an inch

forecast for the far southwest.

Travelers on Thursday and Friday should expect various winter road

conditions while traveling, including combinations of snow, sleet,

freezing rain, and rain. Slow down and allow extra time to reach

your destination. Allow extra stopping time between you and the

vehicle ahead of you.

 

 

Jamestown  (CSi)  The All Vets Club in Jamestown will host the Annual Patriots Dinner/Fundraiser Auction on Thursday October 18th.

The Social is at 5:30-p.m., the meal is at 6-p.m., followed by the live and silent auctions.

On another topic he said, officials with the first Veterans National Cemetery in North Dakota say they should begin accepting burials by late spring or early summer of 2019.

Construction on the cemetery at Harwood, North Dakota, started earlier this year on the 5-acre site. The VA purchased the property two years ago.

The Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis is overseeing the project. It will have more than 3,000 gravesites for eligible veterans and family members, as well as a memorial wall.

He also pointed out that The President’s Marine Corps Band will perform free of charge on Saturday October 13th at Sheyenne High School in West Fargo, at 7:30-p.m.  Ticket holders will be seated by 7:15-p.m., non ticket holders will be admitted at 7:15-p.m., on a first come first served basis.  For security purposes, items larger than a purse will not be permitted.

He reminded veterans enrolled in the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System that more flu clinics are planned for October 10, 17, 25 and 30, at the Jamestown VA Based Outpatient Clinic at 2422 20th Street Southwest,  from 8-a.m., to 3:30-p.m., no appointment is needed.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Authorities have identified a Grand Forks Air Force Base airman who died in a crash on U.S. Highway 2 in northeastern North Dakota.The Air Force says 23-year-old David Pharaoh was assigned to the 319th Security Forces Squadron. He was a native of Atascocita, Texas.The Highway Patrol says Pharaoh was driving a pickup truck that rear-ended an empty sugar beet semitrailer Monday night. He was pronounced dead at the scene, about 5 miles west of the city of Grand Forks. The semi driver wasn’t injured. 

MANNING, N.D. (AP) — Investigators say they’re developing leads, but still have no answers about the death of a missing Montana woman whose remains were found in western North Dakota.

Ranchers stumbled across the remains of Darlene Billie last month in Dunn County. The 55-year-old Billie had been missing from the Flathead Indian Reservation since last fall.

The Dunn County sheriff’s investigators say the remains were found in extremely rough terrain about 3 miles from a public road. Lead investigator Timothy Sul says the location of the remains is suspicious, but there are no signs of foul play.

Sull tells KXMB-TV his investigators are working with the Mackenzie County Sheriff’s Department, Flathead Tribal Police and the FBI.

 

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — A Minot man has pleaded not guilty to trying to kill a confidential informant whose testimony got him convicted of delivering marijuana.

The Minot Daily News reports that 44-year-old Travis Yoney faces several charges including attempted murder.

He’s accused of firing a rifle into the confidential informant’s home in August, then forcing his way into the home and firing a second round before being tackled and subdued by the man. No one was hurt.

A pretrial conference is scheduled Dec. 5.

Yoney received a deferred imposition of sentence in the drug delivery case last year.

Fargo  – The U.S. Senate debate between Democratic U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp and her Challenger, Republican Congressman Kevin Cramer will be on Friday October 5th at 7-p.m., on  Prairie Public Television, CSi Cable 13.

“PBS NewsHour” anchor and managing editor Judy Woodruff will be in Prairie Public’s downtown Fargo studio to moderate the debate.

Woodruff will co-moderate the debate with Prairie Public’s election coverage producer Matt Olien.

Other debates between Heitkamp and Cramer include.

The North Dakota Newspaper Association hosts an October 18th debate to be held in Bismarck.

Then, the North Dakota Broadcasters Association will have an October  26 debate to be held in Fargo.

 

 

In world and national news….

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican senators expect to receive the results of a new FBI background investigation into Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh as soon as Wednesday afternoon. Republican Sen. John Cornyn says he hopes “we’ll see it soon, perhaps as early as today.” Republican Sen. Bob Corker cautioned that the timing was not certain. He says delivery of the final FBI report could be pushed to Thursday. Once the FBI files are delivered, senators are expected to view them in a secure facility.

 

WASHINGTON (AP) — Electronic devices sounded off across the United States Wednesday as the Federal Emergency Management agency conducted an emergency alert test. The tone sounded at 2:18 p.m. EDT. The subject read: “Presidential Alert” and text read: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.” The message was broadcast on cell towers for 30 minutes. Some people got the alert multiple times. Others didn’t get it at all.

 

WASHINGTON (AP) — After a U.N. court order that the U.S. lift sanctions on Iran, the Trump administration says it’s terminating a decades-old treaty affirming friendly relations between the two countries. The move is a largely symbolic gesture that highlights deteriorating relations between Washington and Tehran. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says the practical fallout from the U.S. decision to withdrawal remains to be seen.

 

WASHINGTON (AP) — A U.S. security firm is raising the alarm over a North Korean group it says has stolen hundreds of millions of dollars by hacking the computer systems of banks worldwide since 2014. FireEye said Wednesday the North Korean group is still operating and poses “an active global threat.” North Korea has denied involvement in cyberattacks.

 

STOCKHOLM (AP) — Nobel chemistry winner Frances Arnold says she expects to see an increasing number of female Nobel chemistry laureates in the coming years. Arnold, 62, is only the fifth woman ever to win the Nobel chemistry prize. Arnold had planned to deliver a lecture Wednesday at the University of Texas Southwestern but was returning “to celebrate with my students” at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. One expert called her work “incredible.”
