Mary ‘Louella’ (Erkie) Ortberg, 93, formerly of Fargo, ND passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, surrounded by her loving family.

 

Louella was born August 19, 1925 at Hanks, ND, the daughter of Irvin Louis  Erkie and Katherine (Murphy) Anderson Erkie.  She attended the local school in Zahl, ND, graduating from the Hanks High School.  Following graduation she moved to Burbank, CA where she worked at Lockheed Aircraft.  After the war she returned home to ND and worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Minot.

 

She and John T. Ortberg where married on Valentine’s Day. Together they created homes and businesses in various cities throughout North Dakota and Minnesota;  Mohall, Grenora, Burlington, Towner, Wahpeton, Duluth and Fargo.   She received her degree in nursing from the ND State College of Science and worked as a nurse for many years while raising their children.

 

She is survived by her children, Ella Jean Ortberg, Wilma (Kenneth) Hansen; John R. (Janet) Ortberg; Maria (Jeffrey) Willer; 12 grandchildren, Sheryl (Craig) McFarland, Cynthia (Larry) Biffert, Katherine (Nolan) Larson; Cassandra, Janessa and Benjamin Ortberg;  Michaela, Nathan (Kayla), Katelyn, Christen, Zebedee and Rebecca Willer; 5 great grandchildren, Devin McFarland, Marcus, Sonia and Lia Biffert, Rory Larson; a sister-in-law, Theresa Anderson and many nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; daughter Joanie Maria in infancy; siblings, Harold, Andy, Agneta and Joe Anderson, Charles Erkie and Teresa (Erkie) Link.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Friday October 12, 2018 at the Basilica of St. James in Jamestown. ND.

 

Rosary:  6:30 PM /Vigil service 7:00 PM Thursday at the Funeral home

 

Burial – ND Veterans Cemetery Mandan, ND (3:00 PM Friday)
