Jamestown  (CSi)  Charges are pending against a Minnesota man as Jamestown Police investigate a home invasion early Sunday morning.

Assistant Police Chief, Major Justin Blinsky reports, 20 year old Chase Michael Urie from Proctor, Minnesota, with a temporary Jamestown address, was seen inside the home on a home surveillance camera by the home owner, who was away, as the residence was occupied by other family members.

When the homeowner arrived at the residence, he discovered two broken door frames.

When police arrived at the home at 4:46-a.m., authorities  saw Urie in the residence and failed to follow police commands to leave and retreated further into the home.  James Valley Special Operations Team arrived  also talking him, in an effort to leave the home.  At the time, it was not known if the intruder was armed or what his intentions were.

Then, at  7:44 a.m. the Jamestown K-9 Unit  “Odin,” assisted in the search of the residence.

At 8:01 a.m. he was taken into custody, and was remanded to the Stutsman County Correctional Center, awaiting formal charges.

According to the jail inmate roster, he faces charges of felony criminal trespass, criminal mischief and consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Bond was set at $1,000.

Blinsky reports that  there were no injuries, adding traffic was blocked  off in a two-block radius of the house during the incident, for around an  hour.

The homeowners are not being identified and have chosen to invoke their rights under Marsy’s Law.

The incident remains under investigation by the Jamestown Police Department.

Jamestown  (JRMC) Jamestown Regional Medical Center recently announced Amber Dockter as its most recent Legend Award recipient.

(Pictured from L to R: JRMC Chief Nursing Officer and interim President & CEO Trisha
Jungels, Home Health Manager Shar Trevithick, Amber Dockter and Chief Financial Officer Beverly Fiferlick.)

The Legend Award is the most prestigious distinction for a JRMC employee. The Legend Award recognizes employees who exceed expectations and make THE difference in the lives of those they serve.

JRMC Home Health Manager, Shar Trevithick, nominated Dockter because of Dockter’s selflessness that she shows toward JRMC’s staff, patients and guests.

“Amber admitted a patient to Home Health who was suffering from side effects of cancer treatment, lived alone and had no caregiver available to assist with personal tasks. When Amber arrived to the second visit to this patient after admission, she found that the patient was in desperate need of personal care and assistance with laundry, dressing and generally making his home a place for healing and recovery, being much weaker than he had anticipated he would be. Amber gently assisted the patient with cares and got him settled comfortably. She then took his bed linens and personal laundry to the laundromat, using her own money laundering these items, then returning them to him and making sure he was prepared for what needs he might experience in the future,” Trevithick wrote.

Dockter joined the JRMC team in 2016 and resides in Jamestown.

JRMC’s 350 employees cast anonymous votes to select the Legend Award winner.

The purpose of the Legend Award is to inspire, motivate and capture the moments that define JRMC. The goal is to help employees and volunteers connect to the sense of purpose that brought them to the organization. This award is for employees who’ve made extreme efforts to benefit their patients and colleagues.

“The nominations inspire staff members to continually be the best, exceed expectations and make THE difference in the lives of those we serve,” said JRMC Chief Nursing Officer and Interim President & CEO, Trisha Jungels.

Once nominated, both JRMC administration and employees voted on their favorite nominees and their stories.

“JRMC goes above and beyond for its staff from our Legend Awards each quarter to employee engagement,” said Ricki Ramlo, JRMC Chief Operating Officer. “We are grateful for our employees’ commitment to caring for our patients and our community.”

The Legend Award first began in 2012. Since then, more than 30 individuals have been named Legends and more than 100 employees were nominated.

In the spirit of efficiency, Amber spent the time at the Laundromat completing her documentation and other computer tasks.

Amber truly is an example of selfless, compassionate nursing care by caring for the whole person every time.

Washington (Sens. Heitkamp & Hoeven Offices)  – U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp Friday announced that the U.S. Senate has passed bipartisan legislation she helped introduce and cosponsor to allow homeowners around the Jamestown Reservoir and Patterson Lake to buy the lots on which their homes sit.

The bipartisan bills would transfer lot ownership at Patterson Lake to the Dickinson Parks and Recreation Department. Additionally, lots along the Jamestown Reservoir would be transferred to the Stutsman County Park Board. After this process has completed, North Dakotans with homes on these lots would be able to purchase the land. The legislation was introduced by U.S. Senator John Hoeven (R-ND).

Jamestown Reservoir Legislation

Hoeven’s Jamestown Reservoir legislation:

  • Permanently transfers federal lands around Jamestown Reservoir – including 71 permitted exclusive use cabin lots, two campgrounds, a park and unpurchased lots – to the Stutsman County Park Board and the North Dakota Game and Fish at no cost.
  • Directs that proceeds exceeding the costs of preparing residential lots for sale be used for administrative costs and deferred maintenance of the dam. The BOR would continue to maintain responsibility over the reservoir and dam.

Hoeven’s Patterson Lake and Jamestown Reservoir bills follow his successful efforts to limit permit fee increases for permittees on Patterson Lake, the Jamestown Reservoir and Lake Tschida. The BOR had proposed to more than double the cost of fees and the senator’s legislation limited the total fee increase to no more than 33 percent over 5 years.

SCHOHARIE, N.Y. (AP) — The site of a devastating accident that killed two pedestrians and 18 occupants of a limousine headed to a birthday party, including four sisters, is a known danger spot that has long worried locals, according to a manager of the store that sits at the intersection where the accident happened.

The intersection had been redone in 2008 because of a fatal accident there, said Jessica Kirby, managing director of the Apple Barrel Country Store and Cafe, which is an institution in Schoharie and among the legions of leaf-peepers who take to the roads of upstate New York each autumn.

Since the reconstruction, three tractor-trailers have run through the same stop sign authorities said the limo blew and into a field behind her business, she said. Officials worked with the state to outlaw heavy trucks, she said, but there are still accidents.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A tropical storm that rapidly formed off Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula has gained new strength and could become a dangerous Category 2 hurricane with an expected midweek strike on the Gulf Coast in the Florida Panhandle, forecasts say.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott issued an order for a state of emergency for 26 counties to rush preparations in the Florida Panhandle and the Big Bend area, freeing up resources and activating 500 members of the Florida National Guard.

“This storm will be life-threatening and extremely dangerous,” Scott said Sunday after receiving a briefing at the State Emergency Operations Center. He warned that storm surge could affect areas of Florida not in the storm’s direct path.

Michael emerged Sunday as a tropical storm with winds of up to 50 mph (85 kph). But within hours Sunday it had gained more punch and its top sustained winds clocked in at 60 mph (95 kph) by late Sunday evening. The storm is expected to gain hurricane status by Monday night or Tuesday as its center moves over the Yucatan Channel and then crosses the Gulf of Mexico, nearing the Florida Panhandle coast by Wednesday.

The storm was located by 2 a.m. ET Monday about 105 miles (170 kilometers) east-southeast of Cozumel, Mexico, and moving to the north at about 4 mph (6 kph). Tropical storm winds extended out 170 miles (275 kilometers), primarily to the northeast and southeast of the storm’s center.

Forecasters advised residents along the northeastern and central U.S. Gulf Coast to monitor the storm’s progress.

The north Florida city of Tallahassee on Sunday opened two locations where residents could get sandbags in case of flooding.
