In Women’s Soccer on Thursday, the University of Jamestown defeated Briar Cliff,  4 to 1.

Jamestown  (uj,edu)  Lateasha Hughes (SR/Minot, N.D.)’ 53rd minute goal broke a 1-all tie and Nicole Morrison (JR/Idaho Falls, Idaho) scored twice later in the half as the University of Jamestown women’s soccer team defeated Briar Cliff (Iowa) University 4-1 Thursday afternoon.

Sophie Bales (JR/Camarillo, Calif.) tallied the first goal of the match in the fourth minute to give UJ an early 1-0 lead. That scoreline held until Briar Cliff’s Taylor Beaulieu scored in the 35th minute to make it a 1-1 game.

Following Hughes’ go-ahead goal, Morrison found the net in the 60th minute on assists from Claire Struble (FR/Murrieta, Calif.) and Gabriella Diarte (JR/North Ogden, Utah), then gave the Jimmies a 4-1 lead on an unassisted marker in the 65th minute.

Lauren Sayler (SR/Bismarck, ND) had four saves for UJ, who improved to 7-5-1 overall and 4-2-1 in Great Plains Athletic Conference action. Briar Cliff lost its first GPAC match of the season and had a three-game winning streak snapped. The Chargers are now 7-5-1 overall and 6-1-0 in the GPAC.

Next up for the Jimmies is a road match at Doane (Neb.) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
