Jamestown  (CSi)  The Halloween Open House at the 1883 Stutsman County Courthouse is set for Saturday October 20, from 5-p.m., to 8:30-p.m.

On Thursday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Site Supervisor, Steve Reidburn said, those attending can trick-or-treat throughout the 1883 Stutsman County Courthouse, and visit the “Haunted Basement.”  Treats and hot chocolate will be provided by the 1883 Courthouse Committee.

He said each room of the 1883 Courthouse will have treats to give away, along with volunteers giving presentations on the courthouse history.  Tim Bratton will be on hand as a “fortune teller,” and will do palm readings.

The basement of the 1883 courthouse will be transformed into the Haunted Basements, with “scary,” good times to be had, with spooky fun.

All ages are welcome. Children under age 16 must be accompanied by a parent or Guardian.

The event is in cooperation with the State Historical Society of North Dakota.

Also this holiday season, coming up December 9, and 16 will be the Holiday Open House at the 1882 Courthouse, with the building’s interior decorated by local organizations in Jamestown.

On another topic, Steve said, the 1883 Courthouse will be the site of a Jamestown commemoration of the end of World War I.

On October 30 at 7:30-p.m., Professor Carol Barrett will conduct an event, telling how the “Doughboys,” got their name.

Then on November 11, at 11-a.m., on the steps outside the old courthouse, names will be read of the Stutsman County military persons who gave their lives in World War I, to be read by Stutsman County Veterans Service office, David Bratton.
