Jamestown  (uj.edu)  The University of Jamestown volleyball team, playing its second-to-last home game of the season, swept Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) University Wednesday night at Harold Newman Arena. Set scores were 25-14, 25-22, 25-23.

The Jimmies improve to 18-6 overall and 8-5 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. Dakota Wesleyan falls to 14-12 overall and 3-10 in the GPAC.

DWU had the better numbers in several statistical categories–kills (31-30), hitting percentage (.142-.122), assists (28-27), and digs (58-56)–but UJ had 12 service aces to four for the Tigers, and committed three fewer service errors (7-4).

Kennedy Conzemius (SR/Breckenridge, Minn.) paced Jamestown with nine kills and only one error in 21 attempts. Ellie Michaletz (SO/Aitkin, Minn.) posted five kills while Britta Knudson (JR/Bismarck, N.D.) had three. Miranda Lowman (JR/Mandan, N.D.) (12) and Jackie Meiklejohn (FR/Dickey, N.D.) (10) combined for 22 of the Jimmies’ 27 assists.

Julina Niemeier (SR/Jamestown, N.D.) recorded 16 digs, and Anna Holen (FR/LaMoure, N.D.) finished with nine. Knudson, Conzemius, and Jayla Ritter (SO/Forest Lake, Minn.) all had three total blocks.

Kori Buchanan (SR/Colfax, Wis.) had four aces from the service line, Niemeier and Lowman each had three, and Holen and Meiklejohn both had one as UJ set a new season-high for aces in a match. Their previous best was 10 against Montana State-Northern on August 31.

Rebecca Frick had 11 kills and 16 digs to lead DWU. which lost for the seventh time in its last 10 matches. Bridgett Knobbe had 27 assists and nine digs while Emily Brunsing had a match-high six blocks (all solo).

Jamestown begins a three-game road trip with a non-conference match at Dickinson State (N.D.) Tuesday. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. Central.
